I just got an idea for my texture pack XD Teehee....
*Studying DokuCraft art right now....Gonna make a pack of similar style XD....
Do we have to do the upcoming textures too like the cobble brick and stuff which are coming out in 1.8 or do we finish the whole terrain we currently have?
I've been staring at Doku's textures for ages... My eyes are bleeding.... Though the style is extremely interesting..... I don't know if I'll be able to pull it off in just 6 hrs....

No, you don't have to do the new textures for 1.8. Just what's on the png now.
And my advice: Don't try to copy doku's style. Do your own style. :biggrin.gif:
have not made a texturepack yet, but i have tinkered with some textures, never really liked it, so yeah...
but this might be a good challenge! i will prepare everything after breakfast, and then i will start timing.
it is fine to not do it marathon rite? (even though i usually do marathons without noticing...)
No, it doesn't have to be a marathon run. Just a grand total of six hours.
I want to do this, is deep planning allowed? :smile.gif:
Naturally. So long as the process of actually creating the textures only takes 6 hours, feel free to spend as much time as you desire planning everything out. Go nuts. :biggrin.gif:
Well, since my contest has fallen off the map completely I will enter this one. Don't think I will do this today though. I have spent way too much time in front of the computer and not enough time with the family. Do you have any prizes in mind? If not, I can do something similar to what I was offering with my contest.

No prizes, just fun and bragging rights. :wink.gif:
Don't worry, take as much time as you need. We'll still be here when you get back.
I hope people wont go ape **** if I make a fairly simple RPG texture pack (like 5+ colors for each block at the least). :laugh.gif:
I like the idea of having a nice set color pallet, but....*points to OP* the theme is adventure and exploration. I guess you could try making an adventure rpg, if you want. :blink.gif:
Arghhh anyone know any tips on animating water and lava cause I'm gonna be making a 32x pack :sleep.gif:
The only tip I can give is, dont do it by hand.. I made a script in photoshop that automatically does it for me
all I need is the lava texture. but this is also for a 64x pack.
But for animating, you basically want to place your original lava texture in the sheet then copy that texture, past it directly below and take 1-2 rows of pixels off the bottom of the pasted texture and put them on the top pasted texture, NOT THE TOP of the original, always the top of the pasted.
You then copy the pasted texture and paste it below and do the same thing with that. You would then have 3 textures back to back going top to bottom on the sheet.
In the end it will have to copy/paste and edit 32 textures if you do 1 row of pixels or 16 if you do 2 rows of pixels.
I would start with 2 rows and if you dont like the animating with 2 rows, then go to 1 row.
Hope that helped
I know its a bit confusing but its quite hard to explain in text with out showing you image examples or something.
EXAMPLE for the pixels to top.
Say this is your texture and these numbers represent a row of pixels. for this example the texture will be 8 pixels tall. so an 8x pack.

That is the original, you then copy it and place it below, take the bottom 2 rows off and put them on the top so the new texture looks like this.

You then put then put them back to back, rinse and repeat.

Then when making the third texture you copy the 2nd texture and do the same thing.

Thanks for assisting!
But again, to reiterate:
You do not have to animate water and lava. Only change their textures on the terrain png.
I post this again as it totally missed the new posts here on page 3.
Something in the style of this maybe? :smile.gif:
Edit: It has like 8 colors, which is a "simple" amount of colors. :laugh.gif:
Lookin' good so far!
The main point of the 'exploration' theme is to keep people from turning textures such as netherrack, soulsand, and clay into building materials. For this contest, they should look good out in the wilds where they're found! Nether exploration ftw! :biggrin.gif:

If you are making a 32x and 64x pack you cant just change the water and lava texture in the terrain file since its not being used.
Instead you have to edit a Custom_lava_flowing.png and a Custom_water_flowing.png and you have to manually place them and animate them which is a pain in the ass i should say.
The only time you dont have to do this is when you are working with the default resolution.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to throw the BS flag on you here.
I've made three 32x packs, and I can tell you from experience that you DO NOT have to have animated water and lava files for the textures to be changed. Observe:
This is a screenshot from my pack. I haven't added animation files, yet the water obviously has a different texture.

OK! Entering! woot!!
You should give it a try anyway! Don't shoot yourself in the foot before you even get started!
Glad to have you. :biggrin.gif:

Nope! Only time spent putting pixels on the png counts.
As long as you haven't already published the texture somewhere, you can use it.
That is iron. That means you can do whatever you want with my pack as long as you say it was by me
It's not about winning, it's about fun!
EDIT: And don't forget, I'll be giving out 'best of' awards, too!

I personally won't have anything up for a while, because I'm moving back into the dorm today. So...tomorrow. :biggrin.gif:
EDIT: You guys should submit YOUR stuff. Entertain us! ^^

Shouldn't be that hard, right?
