MY FIRST MONTHLY CHALLENGE!
Hey guys!
I'm excited about this new idea I had. I was surprised at how few in number there are of well-maintained quarterly texture challenges for minecraft, and I'm doing a monthly one starting now!_
_This is the first one, so it's really a test, but please still participate! I NEED PARTICIPANTS! _
_The challenge: Make a pack with a reso of 2-18, based on a retro game like mario or megaman. You don't need to use 8-bit game-style graphics! Just under those resos with a look of a retro game._
_(This may change!) You'll have the rest of this month, through the last day of May ending the challenge at 12:00 midnight (my time zone.) (U.S Eastern Coast, aka Florida)._
_You are free to submit textures related to the challenge after the deadline, but they will not count in the challenge. (NO ADVERTISEMENT!) (If you're just doing the challenge for fun even after the deadline, or are unable to finish in time, just post it anyway!)_
_Submit screenshots! Actual images of the textures can be easily stolen, and you will have to resubmit them if you post it that way._
_Rules:_
-Only creative in nature! Don't use other textures you or others made previously!_
-Do not try to bypass or bend the rules, and don't expose any loopholes! You can be inventive, but don't do something that's obviously something that I (tried to tell) told you not to do!_
-And of course! (The most overused last rule.) HAVE FUN! This isn't a serious competition! We're not Olympians here, you know! _
_'Scoring Rules'_
Unique? (+4 to -3), Quality? (+8 to -7), Close to the Game? (+5 to -10). Also, resolution subtracts from your score like this: Score-(Resolution+4). That means that if you use 2x2 resolution, it's plus 2 points, and 15x15 is minus 11 points! YOU START WITH 10 POINTS!_
Please post the resolution as well as a screenie of in-game with the texture/resource pack to prove the functionality!
_Again, good luck and have a freakin' good time texturing! _
A good idea, just one flaw. How can you make a perfect texture, if you get points for originality and being close to a game?
Well, good point, but by origionality I mean origional to mc textures! Meaning, if I make a resourcepack based on DayZ, and it's not like any others, and has many inventive, new, and creative aspects, that would be origional! (Just an example, I know that's not at all retro. XD)
You do want textures that wouldn't be expected in a DayZ-Minecraft resourcepack, but they still should be very close to the game.
I agree with what was said above, including that I think it is a good Idea.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you.
The roses are wilted, the violets are dead, the sugar bowl's empty, and so is your head.
I think the scoring system for resolution goes against the quality and accuracy scores, you can't fit much detail into anything below 8x. Most challenges use a poll to vote for the best entry because that's a better method of judging.
Day Z isn't exactly a retro game, I doubt you'd be able to fit all that HD detail and accuracy into 4 pixels.
Another thing you haven't mentioned are how much of a pack needs to be made, completing an entire resource pack is not easy to do itself let alone producing one in a month. The past few challenges asking for only the blocks to be done have died due to people not have the time.
Okay. Your first point and last, point, I will definitely consider! Thank you for the input! But the second point. Please read the whole post where I mention DayZ. (Especially the parenthesis like this.) Thanks again for the input.
