Pretend there is a light source shining on your texture, usually from the top left. How would that effect the shadows? One side will be lighter, the other darker. This adds depth by creating the illusion that the texture has protruding objects.
As it is right now, it looks like your textures are illuminated from all sides, giving them no depth and so they just look flat and boring.
