'Cause I like cheese and you know that, and bacon is-spankin' and you know that. Don't hate me 'cause I'm beautiful, don't hate me 'cause I'm beautiful...
Yeah, I agree.
With the bat's model, it's a bit tough to make it look like a bird without paying some extra attention to how you texture it. Maybe you could create some textures of real-world bird species? If you use MCpatcher's random mobs feature, or biome specific mob textures, you could create a whole variety of recognizable birds in Minecraft.
They are not realistic because none of the animals look particularly realistic, what with being blocks My birds have a bright, cheerful, cartoonish look, as do my octopus which are now bright blue boxy fishes. Even my villagers which I have textured myself don't look particularly realistic. And I'm quite happy with that.
It's not so much the realism that's the issue as it is people can't really tell that they're birds. I mean the sounds might help a bit, but from the snapshots alone it's a bit impossible to tell what they are. The minecraft animals don't look realistic, but they have traits that make them recognizable at first sight. Your textures don't have t be realistic, but you should use some designs that allow people to recognize at first glance that they're birds. I remember seeing someone mod the bats into ducks, and because they used a design from a real world animal, it was easy enough to recognize.
I really like it, thank you for the texture pack. I had captured a bat in a cage to use it as a bird, and this makes it look so much better.
Edit: After playing with audio on for a while, I have noticed that the sound effects you have added sound kind of distant. That may be something to modify unless it is intended.
hey Tobias, thanks for the nice feedback; my main aim for the mod had been to have bird sounds in the game, since I couldn't use matmos (insert various reasons here). So the sounds are just supposed to add an ambient birdsong to the game
@Zardium, while there is a rainbow gradient underlying in the texture, I have made the effort of making a feathery effect. I guess it can't be seen very well as the bats tend to flee from the player.
@ Phil, that's not a bad idea either, only that chicken can't fly!
