Also, I like what you've done for the new stone textures. I'm still in a quandary as to what to do for my smooth stone, but i completely agree that making them just blocks, which I might end up doing to begin with out of frustration, is a bit limiting.
I know what you mean with regard to a favourite graphics editor, any little changes can take a long time to adapt to. I've still not upgraded to the latest version of Gimp, even though it has lots of new bells and whistles, I just can't easily find and do things I could naturally do before...and there never seems to be the time to relax and get to grips with it! So good luck with Paint.net.
I've just been messing with your pack and it works extremely well with all the 1.8 stuff in the temporary 1.8 world I'm testing stuff in. I wasn't absolutely sure whether your slime block is spring thing or bellows, what's the idea behind it?
Ha ha, well my original sponge (back when it was creative only) was a straw block, but that became redundant when Mojang actually added straw
Thanks for the well-wishes! I think in the end the paint.net update will be better for me, it'll just take time to get it going...
As for the slime... eh... well.... I was trying to get a grate working, but then realised I couldn't edit the 'inner' box separately, so I edited it a bit and now it's sort of a grate/spring/vent thingy. I don't know really... It was a very hard block to get anything in theme happening, so I might redo it later on. I'm interested to see what you do with yours
I finally had a go at custom models... hoo boy! It took some time to get anything working at all, but I have some stuff to show.
These are all hand coded and took about 4 hours to get done (but that's probably just because I'm slow )
I've done the back of the piston (the UV mapping took FOREVER) and started 3D rails. As you can see, I also experimented with raised rough grass, but I might have to get rid of that because it causes flickery textures on the rails and redstone and looks weird from a distance;
I can see almost endless possibilities with this power, so I don't think I'll do much with it! I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but I have to limit my scope, or else I'll be slavin' away all day every day. I plan to do a few more small models, like the jukebox and bookshelf, and if I'm up for it I might do some more.
I also made this new intro for the Mojang logo, but it only works with MCPatcher.
I finished the rails and the torch. Not sure about the torch, I may have gone a tad overboard and it might be cluttered more than anything... Oh and I added some support struts to the angled rail because when I was trying to get the rails in the right place they ended up there by accident and I liked the effect it gave
Here's a nobleman or 'Liberian' refusing to look me in the eye for his photo. He has some nice earmuffs too, to keep his ears warm and to also block out the sounds of the common rabble.
The butcher has a nice beard and some elbow length leather gloves. Who's that in the background? Is it the local town priest or a foreigner come to trade exotic goods?
Here's a Nordic looking farmer surveying the land for places to plant crops.
The blacksmith never takes off his welding mask or mining helmet. Some say he was born wearing them. He'd disagree, but all he ever says is 'harmph' like everyone else.
I'm thinking of maybe redoing the villager sounds with a heap of variations for each one. So instead of 'harmph' they might go 'Uh huh', 'Ahem', 'Hmm', 'Hmm-hmm' etc. I'm worried it would get more annoying then it is now though and might sound even more bizarre if all the npcs are uttering English to themselves in the same voice all day, rather then making nonsensical moans.
Can't help much there... I've never played Zelda!
I've had some people also say the pack reminds them of 'Final Fantasy' but again I can't really say, as I've never played that either.
One last thing to point out before I go to bed - I found a french page about my pack -> http://minecraft.fr/steamy/
It's pretty interesting that there are people out there who are actively translating my limited English page into their own languages There was that Chinese review of my pack on youtube too (see page 4). I don't mind if people do that, so long as they don't claim any credit for the textures...
I've updated the main topic with a link to an older version of the pack for people who are using 1.7.10. I know most server's still are so it'll be helpful to people who play online.
I've also been working on my singleplayer world with the new textures. This is all I have now;
Model rail track, villagers and villager GUI are exquisite, Squid.
Having just said in my thread that I'm not really interested in making model blocks for my pack, you change my mind with that 3d track...it's fantastic!
Been feeling tremendously inspired by flicking through this thread. Might post some stuff of mine here if you don't mind. after all this one squid-chappie seems to have a monopoly on the images around here.

As much as I enjoy monopolising the image trade in these parts some healthy competition might be just what the doctor ordered!
Looks great! I don't know whether you intend to do any mod support, but if so, Flaxbeard's Steam Power would look pretty cool with some of your textures.
I've got a small update to show, I've replaced the default music disks with period themed music. Hold on, hold on! Before you get your pants in a knot, I've made very especially sure that these are all either creative commons or my own work, so there's no copyright violations.
Here's a sad, hasty video showing some of the new music. Again, sorry for the lack of editing or general interest (thankfully its just music so the images don't matter as much) I've just been rather busy+exhausted+on holiday to really have much interest in working on tasks like this at the moment. Thanks for sticking around even while I'm being a slouch
Also included in this update is a fix for backwards compatibility, so that this new version also works fine in 1.7.10 or lower - it stops the torch texture looking dumb.

I'm still around, lurking in the shadows...
I think though I'll stick to maintenance rather then improvement on my pack for the foreseeable future, with updates to match mojang/microsoft's. I've also been getting some interest in my Tiberian Sun pack I worked on a while back so I might return to that at some point, and on top of all that, I've been spending a lot of time working on my pixelart;

Love the buildings and the art, Squid.
Oh, I'm desperate to start building again after seeing those buildings.

What's that in the distance?
It's Squid working on the villagers!

I'll include them in the OP too
Thanks
It was a void that needed filling I think

Flippin' awesome! Love it!
Now you've got me thinking...because that was soooo atmospheric!
If you're serious about having a go; this website is where I sourced most of my music: http://cylinders.library.ucsb.edu/index.php
It's an amazing resource, and all the music is creative commons!
