the lapis lazuli block has a new texture, bring that on into this
This is an alpha pack, and thus, it has the old lapis block texture. As far as I know there was no older version than the one used in the Veteran Pack.
For some reason, (I downloaded the Latest version BTW) When I load up the world with the texture pack, the grass side looks like the alpha, but the top texture looks like a strange brighter texture than whats shown in the pictures. Posibbly help me?
The biome color changing is hard coded into minecraft, so I cant make the grass completely alpha. In certain biomes, specifically the ones with darker grass, the color will change. Although I am only guessing because I have no pictures so I don't know if that is truly the problem in your case. The sides of the block will always look like alpha if you are using fast graphics which it sounds like you are.
You left out the old chest texture, and the old iron block, gold block, and diamond block texture. And the pigs eyes are a bit messed up. Also, there are ways to make those acaia & dark oak textures work with the alpha textures (I've seen other similar packs.)
1 question, would it be possible to bring back the old lighting system?
I did not realize this still had the new chest texture. In my dev version, I use the old texture. There are no latches popping out and double chests have a line on them and whatnot. But I could not change the models yet as 1.8 has not been released. The iron, gold, and diamond blocks do have the old textures, although the texture I use is the top texture. The old metal blocks had different textures for the top, sides, and bottom. The sides and bottom had that weird dark texture that both doesn't look good and doesn't make sense, so I use the old top textures. There was also a vote a while back on this issue. The pigs eyes are those of the original pig from classic. I did a vote about this and the turnout was they wanted the derpy eyes. In my searchings, I have not found a way to change acacia and dark oak to alpha because the color change is hard coded and takes the oak texture and darkens it. The old lighting system can be brought back, but only with the use of mc patcher and a pain of tedius lightmap making. I will likely add support for this in the future.
EDIT: I just looked and there are now dark oak and acacia leaves. THE NEXT VERSION WILL IMPLEMENT THESE AS WELL AS THE OLD CHESTS AND A FEW OTHER CHANGES.
I finally found the reason why! This mod I use, witch allows me to have old terrain generation, makes the grass like how it was by it self, so the texture pack kind of interferes with the grass's top texture.
I'm glad you have found the problem. Thanks for the update.

I was futzing with the chest sprites to make them look like the old chests, so if you want, I'll give you the link, if it might save you a few minutes
I doubt they are, but if you'd like them anyway, here:
They look great, in fact, they are exactly the same as mine in every way except for a couple of tiny details. I may even use your small chest design (I will let you know if I do.) For the small chests, the only difference is a small variation on the latch. Yours is shinier and may be more accurate, I will look into that. For the large chest, the latch is different in the same way, but the only other differences are that there is no line through the bottom on your chest, and that the top of your chest is a bit stretched/blurred. I may use the latch though. Again I will let you know. Thanks for the time
UPDATE: After looking through the old versions, I have found that the original chest did not have the shiny latch, that my version is a bit more accurate. Thanks anyways though

I did have to stretch the top a bit, was the model a bit smaller? I couldn't really fit the top correctly. I've never played Alpha/Beta, I got Minecraft around 1.4.7 or so, so I go off my memory of old Minecraft let's plays. And you're welcome, sorry it didn't help.
i remember in alpha it looked really bright green (and you've done a great job of re-interpreting that). In beta is when i started playing and ive tried to find a texture pack that brings back the old beta textures...but no luck... Nostalgiacraft doesnt work for me... so could you create a beta texturepack?

I believe I will have the solution for you in the future. Unfortunately right now I haven't had much time to work on this, but hopefully soon I will have more time and can give you a nice solution. Stay posted, I will update this post when it is ready.

So I attempted to use the block models feature to bring back the original end portal model and texture, as well as the old redstone cross. Unfortunately, Although I was entirely successful, Minecraft's anti xray thing puts the old end portal textures underneath the new ones and it does not look good.
After some more playing around, I was able to make the redstone cross work perfectly. YAY!
Isn't there a gradient.png somewhere in there that controls the colors of the grass across biomes? Just make that entire image transparent
Unfortunately the color changes are now hardcoded and that file hardly changes it. Most biomes are the same, the only ones that suffer really noticeably are the swamp and dark oak and those that make it really dark. Their color change is hardcoded so it is not accessible to me through the texture pack. Unless they have changes something but I doubt they did because the swamp is still dark for me and the colormap gradient is not dark like that.

Yes, I was so focused on 1.8, that I forgot to edit that. Thanks for pointing it out.

I actually already made some months ago, but if you would like, you can show them to me as they may be better than mine.

Alright! Cheers for that

Here is the result:
Todos somos inteligentes, solo que uno lo son mas que otros
It is a resource pack, just drop the zip into your resourcepacks folder and it should work perfectly.
The nuclear grass needs a bit more darkening.
I'm back
It is as close as I could get to the old minecraft alpha grass. In some biomes the grass is shaded differently and I cant do anything about that.
