The Goals for Lithos
Obviousness, Consistency, Beauty
Everything should be instantly recognisable to those familiar with default textures, or with the things in real life.
Construction blocks should be very similar in color and brightness to default blocks, so color-schemes work the same way in default and Lithos.
Each texture should be as appealing as possible, while the whole pack has a consistent style.
Very nice! It feels like a john smith version of default. I've actually been making a texture pack along these same lines for a few months (link in signature); prompted by the same thing (faithful 32 being horrid).
I like the more realistic approach you've taken (I've not used any filters, it's all hand drawn pixel by pixel which keeps it more cartoonish).
I love the cobble and the Obsidian is beautiful.
I'll keep my eyes on this
There is somthing about the wood that is putting me off; i'm not sure if it's too smooth or it's a lack of shading. I do think the vertical seam shouuld not have a highligh.
The ores could do with some shaing around the edge of the ore chunks.
The ores are more WIP than some of the other textures. I'm still wondering if my goals for this project are best met with keeping the pattern of ores the same as vanilla, or giving each one a unique pattern, as i've done for redstone. But yeah, i'm not happy with them yet but felt they needed to be in the release.
The top of the logs has an even gradient from dark around the edge to light in the centre, and that looks a bit odd when they are placed beside each other.
Yeah, you're right, i hadn't tested that way. Will fix
On the plus side, I love the cobble (a block I had a lot of trouble with) and the Obsidian is beautiful.
Thanks, i went through dozens of revisions on the cobble- it was easily the most work. It's hard to make a texture mostly faithful to the vanilla version without it being an eye-sore.
I'm glad to see some other people think this fills a niche worth filling. I've been afraid that everyone else would prefer a texture more literally faithful, or else more creative and different.
It looks really familiar... Is this stolen, or is it just me.
....
Edit: Okay, I've just been googling other faithful packs, and this looks pretty unique. CONGRATS, IT'S AMAZING!!!
Yeah, this is all my own work from scratch, except for some textures that were started by painting over default textures. There do seem to be a lot of scams in this sub forum. A bit of suspicion is not unwarrented.
I've just released v0.1.1, which has a few important additions, and incorporates changes suggested above into a couple blocks. See the original post for details.
Release Three (v0.1.2) is out, with a couple new screenshots this time. The major new blocks are: Soulsand, Birch and Jungle Wood, and Spruce Leaves. Now, 35% of the blocks done. See Original Post for details. I'm having a terrible time getting gravel to work-- maybe i'll get it finished for next time.
Holy crap, Vattic better be scared when this is complete.
I'll take that as a compliment, but he doesn't seem to be doing this for ego or money, so what is there to feel defensive about? Besides Faithful's overwhelming strength is the mod support, not the vanilla textures.
Aww man, when I saw Lucid, I thought this was a continuation of Moontrain's pack (y'all old guys will remember it). But this is still pretty cool.
I feel foolish. I didn't comprehend your reference until just now. I searched and discovered: Moontrain created the Lucid Pack. Though defunct for several years there been at least some fan effort to keep it going. I really like the name "Lucid", but I guess I need to think of a new one...
I really feel this deserves more views. It's by far the best 'faithful' style pack I've seen IMO. It keeps textures similar but much more nicely drawn.

Thanks That has extra weight from those who have themselves made quality texture packs.
Great job there. Once there get to be a few more blocks, I am definitely going to try this out!
Thanks.
doctordiamonds, dirtstump, and everyone, i'm also interesting in your opinions on which blocks make the difference between a WIP that's not ready to play, and one that has enough to make trying it not annoying. I can't gurantee that i'll do all blocks in the order requested, but it will definitely make a block more likely to get done sooner.
Finally a proper name! The pack formerly known as "Lucid" is now "Lithos".
In addition, i've added 27 new textures. Most important are the Hardened Clay series, and the new properly colored log ends for Spruce, Jungle, and Birch trees. No mods are needed, these textures are made possible by the new resource pack system. See change log for full details.

I admit, i'm still feeling my way a bit on the balance between smooth shading and crisp pixels, and i haven't been quite consistent

Good point, i have the shadows the same on the top and bottom of the dark cross-bars.
Can you explain what you mean?

I thought this was on of those 128x super detailed packs but I checked the topic name and...
Mind=Blown!
I see what you mean -- there's a bit of a horizontal seam and the clumps get small and indistinct.

Also adds ghost2's HD paintings, and a few blocks: Gravel, glowstone, and cake. Future releases should add more substantial amounts of content.
I still need to rename the pack, but I am having trouble picking a name.

Very well done, sir!
Another annoyingly small update. HD Fonts cause issues in resource packs, so i've removed the nice HD font for now in v0.2.1.
The next release will feature the new name, honest.
Thanks
I can't blame you, I spend little time with other's WIP textures. But i appreciate those who do.
