I didn't know items support transparency! (Then again, I had a major issue with my sides of my items for a while, so I should have guessed)
Yeah, that sounds great!
I'll see about getting that done today. Thanks for the encouragement.
As an experiment, I'm thinking of doing a video where I talk about the changes I've made to the pack. More to test out my recording and editing process than anything else. Would anyone be interested in hearing the "artists' commentary" on the updates? Don't worry, I'll still include screenshots where possible.
I really hate 9minecraft, skydaz, and other download sites for minecraft resources.
They have posted your resource pack on their site without linking to this forum page, which I assume may violate your license.
Thanks for the information, though I did already know that. Yes, 9minecraft is infringing on my copyright. Unfortunately the simple fact is that I don't have the money to fight them or even send a proper DMCA takedown request (which they'd likely ignore due to the automated nature of those sites), nor do I care enough to expose myself to the legal liability that comes from reporting them to Google. It sucks, but I'm betting that crappy site has more money for legal stuff than I do, and I don't want to get in the way of a vengeful pirate.
If you or stopmodreposts.org would like to report that page to Google in my place, I hereby authorize you to do so on my behalf on the grounds that they have not properly attributed the work to me in accordance with my license. If prompted, you may link to this post as proof that you are allowed to represent me in this way. Just as long as I can personally stay out of any legal battles I'm fine.

I love it a lot. I use it all the time, the only time when I don't use it is when I play gta (to play gta you need a custom resource pack) xD LOVE IT !!!
It's taking a while to get everything going. For some stupid reason I feel the need to build a darn set instead of just doing it out in naturally generated terrain. Presentation! What a concept!

. "Sanity" v.4.15 is now available for Minecraft 1.8.1 And the 1.8.2 Prereleases.
Please take a moment to watch my Artist Commentary Video for this update. Or not. Your choice. Note: The video incorrectly lists this as the 4.14 update to the pack. This is incorrect. I'll try to do better in the future, I promise.
Changes to this version include:
● Temporarily Removed some CIT features until they can be fixed, either in MCPatcher or Sanity
● Ported Mushroom CTM to vanilla (mostly)
● Improved brown mushroom block textures
● Made unique textures for Cobblestone Stairs
● Made unique textures for Stone Brick Stairs
● Made unique textures for Brick Stairs
● Made unique textures for Netherbrick Stairs
● Remade and animated stem on Mushroom Stew and Rabbit Stew
● Fixed legs being reversed and backwards on "Alex" skin
I think this works well with how you make the pack, though I've got to admit, I always imagined your voice wouldn't be as deep as it is, although that might just be me and my wonderful voice. If you did this sort of thing more you might have an easier time not having to retype your explanations to why you changed things in that particular update and more fluently describe what aspects you mean while explaining, plus it just feels more friendly in general.

Honestly the only thing people can agree on is that my voice doesn't sound right. Most people are telling me that it's much higher than they were expecting, and now you're saying it's deeper than you thought. I find that particularly hilarious considering all any of you have to go off of is my Minecraft skin and a couple of drawings.

No, I'll still have to re-type them. People don't read my posts, what makes you think they'll watch my videos.
And yea, I'm trying to go for a more personal touch with these videos. Make it a little less sterile than an update post with a billeted list. It's a bit difficult to do since nobody is requesting features, and the pack is finished for the most part. Even so, I think it's something that I'm going to have a bit of fun with. I'm also going to be doing some gaming videos on my channel, so please Subscribe if you haven't already. [/obligatoryPlug]
I'm glad you like the video. As always, thanks for the feedback!

Well as for your voice, I think since my dad and I have such deep voices I just expect everyone's to at least sound higher-pitch than ours, plus many people end up having higher voices from not watching how they speak and somewhat use their sinuses to make the sound (at least in Usonia), whereas I try to speak naturally and as a result have a smooth and versatile voice. A voice which has given me a rather big ego at that.
I guess you have a point with the not reading/not watching thing, but I even find myself looking for pictures and videos as opposed to text just scanning through websites...ironic seeing as I oftentimes write a lot more than necessary, as you have seen.
Also, I have to go to YouTube now because I forgot to subscribe to someone...I feel like he recently posted to this thread with shameless self-promotion, but I can't remember who. Ah, well, I can just scroll up a few posts to find him anyway...

Oh I'm still going to include pictures and video where it's useful to do so. It is, however, useful to keep a changelog. Besides, I'm the first person to say that texturing is a visual medium and that it's best to show, don't tell. I'd be a bit of a hypocrite if I didn't include as much visual stuff as possible with my updated.

Hey, it's not shameless self-promotion if it's in my own pack's thread. It's not like I have a giant link at the top of my OP saying "ZOMG SUBSCRIBE TO MY CHANNEL IT'S THE REAL REASON I MADE THIS THREAD!" like basically EVERY single PvP pack posted here does - or would if they were being honest.
Subtlety, my friend, is the key to keeping everything polite and within the rules while still getting what you want.
Though one of these days I should probably make a signature banner to goes to my channel.
Anyway, thanks for the sub! Nine subs and only one video. I think I'm doing pretty well ratio wise.
I will be Including this with my modpack, and of cource links to here will be posted and credit given.
Just one question, Is It okay If I add support for the mods In the modpack, I know about the license but not sure If I am able to add to It for mod support.

Read and understand the license before you include it in your mod pack. If you can't read, don't understand, or don't want to follow the license then DO NOT use my pack in your mod pack. Chances are you can't include my pack in your modpack because it would conflict with the terms and conditions imposed upon you by the mod makers. You are, however, free to redistribute it separately in accordance with the terms of the license, or just recommend people use it with your mod pack. Again, please read and understand the license. If you have specific questions, please ASK before doing anything with my work. I'm usually pretty accommodating.
As for adding textures to the mods, by all means do so. In fact, if you make any mod support for Sanity let me know. I'll happily link to your add-on pack if you publish it... provided that I feel your additions fit with Sanity, of course.
The goal is to have mod support return once most of the supported mods have been updated to Minecraft 1.8... though that will depend on how supportive the modding community is of the 1.8 block models system. Stay tuned.
This pack is very good, and has plenty of attention to detail, but there's something rather off-putting to me about the plank's tops (though that's probably subjective) and most of the natural materials. The grass in river biomes is nearly Thaumcraft Magical Forest-level blue-green. You also have some nice detailing on the grass, especially with the raised layer. The issue is that it's very noisy from a distance, and practically necessitates mipmapping at a distance. The tree's leaves are wonderful, though.
The water's patterns are nice, and well animated, and I don't think I've seen water animated like it before, but there's a bit too much contrast between light blue and dark. It started to give me a bit of a headache. The flowing water is especially harsh, and unlike the wool pattern which is similar, it looks rather forced. It's probably the contrast issues again.
The GUI is very nice, and has plenty of detailing.
The wool has a very nice pattern to it, and looks like actual stitched cloth.
The sand is nice, and the compressed look to the basic sandstone fits with the pack's theme, which I guess by this point is to look realistic. Even so, you might want to cut down on the noise a little bit, as mentioned above.
The nether is hideous, period. Bright red/blue don't go together. Blue/orange if done well, yes. Red and orange, yes. Red and green, sometimes. Not blue/red. At the very least, it's concentrated on the nether fortresses as opposed to everywhere else.
If you take it as a realistic pack, it's fine. 16x16 is very hard to do, and not a lot succeed, (Pixel Perfection is a fine example of a good one) and I'm not sure about this. There's noise issues, but the textures themselves are fairly good. I like the detailing on the thread's signs itself; the curls are a nice touch.

Well that's rather vague. Honestly the only thing anyone can tell me about the planks is that they don't look right. Add outlines? Doesn't look right/ Remove outlines? Doesn't look right. Make a pattern? Doesn't look right. Use random tiles to remove the pattern? Doesn't look right. Nobody can tell me why it doesn't look right or how to make it look better, though, so for the time being they're staying that way until I think of something better.

I'm considering re-doing the grass color. I really don't want to because I like having different shades of grass in different biomes, but Minecraft's hard transitions makes it really ugly where unlike biomes meet up. And yes, I was going for a blue-green; though I think I still need to scale back the blue a bit more.
You also have some nice detailing on the grass, especially with the raised layer. The issue is that it's very noisy from a distance, and practically necessitates mipmapping at a distance.
Almost every pack does that if you have a large enough area. With mine it's just a bit more pronounced. Sanity is a noisy pack. No denying it.
Now if you have an idea to improve it, I'm listening. Grass is one of those blocks I struggle with, and this is the fifth or sixth incarnation of the grass texture. Again, I know it doesn't look great but unless someone gives me useful advice on how to improve it I'm kinda stuck with it until I think of something better.

This is the first time anyone has complained about the water texture. I keep meaning to redo it... but water textures are stupidly hard. The flowing water is probably going to stay as it is, though. I personally love the 'waterfall' look. It's a shame there isn't a way to have different flowing water textures for different angles of flow... but there isn't and never will be so I'm going to keep my fast-moving waterfall.
The GUI is very nice, and has plenty of detailing.
Thank you! I put a lot of time into making it look unique. There are some things that could probably be improved if I went back and redid it all now, but I haven't the time to see to it anymore.

Well that's like... your opinion.
Personally I think the red and blue look good together. The nether fortresses are quite intentionally blue to give the player's eyes something to rest on that isn't a harsh red. Yes, I wanted the nether to be a harsh red. It's supposed to be a hellscape after all. It's supposed to be hard to look at! The blue also pops at a distance making nether fortresses easier to spot, which is good because I personally have a difficult time picking them out from the very samey-looking netherrack in vanilla.
So no, I'm keeping the nether the way it is. Thanks.

Thank you for the feedback. If you have useful ideas about how to fix some of these issues, please let me know. Others, like removing some of the noise from the sandstone, I'll look into on my own. I make no promises, though, since this is a bit of a noisy pack by and large; and will likely remain that way.

I suppose it's how flat they look. The oak planks don't really look like planks, they look more like wallpaper. There seems to be just a bare minimum of shading on it.
The birch planks, now that I look at them a second time, I think look odd to me because I can see the seams in the textures easily because the edges of the plank's textures don't always match up along the sides. Are they using the rotation feature?

Grass could just be slightly smoother, with a bit less contrast.
I'm not really sure actually how to explain that further. It might just be my opinion, I guess.

The flowing water is okay if I look at it for a while, now that you mention it. It just doesn't really fit with the realistic appearance of the rest of the pack quite well, more in the way that the flowing water bits don't fade or move around other than falling straight down in lines, some slightly faster than the others.

Honestly, high visibility or theming is not incompatible with good-looking colors.
It's possible to make blocks stand out from each other without destroying a theme you set up. I'm not arguing with the red; the nether does look nice when it's bright red. I'm arguing with the contrast between red and blue specifically. There are other ways of making fortresses stand out without adding colors that don't go well with existing ones.
You do remind me though, I should make nether brick stand out more in my texture pack. Thank you!

I suppose it's how flat they look. The oak planks don't really look like planks, they look more like wallpaper. There seems to be just a bare minimum of shading on it.
For the plank tops this is intentional. It always bothers me how people make their flooring with a lot of bumps and details. Honestly, how many floors do you walk across on a daily basis that have a lot of shading and detail. Probably not a lot. There's a very real, very practical reasons that most floors are flat and smooth, and I wanted the plank tops to reflect that.
The birch planks, now that I look at them a second time, I think look odd to me because I can see the seams in the textures easily because the edges of the plank's textures don't always match up along the sides. Are they using the rotation feature?
The birch plank tops do need improvement, but I'm not entirely sure how to go about it. The problem is that unless I have a TON of different tiles Minecraft will always generate areas where everything just lines up in an obvious way. That's the nature of random textures. I wish I could force a checkerboard pattern of variants or something... but sadly that option isn't available. If I think of a good way to get the 'look' I want without the obvious lines or bogging the game with 50 tiles for a single block, I'll definitely do so.
The flowing water is okay if I look at it for a while, now that you mention it. It just doesn't really fit with the realistic appearance of the rest of the pack quite well, more in the way that the flowing water bits don't fade or move around other than falling straight down in lines, some slightly faster than the others.
The problem is that there's no way to make water look good no matter what, and this was the best I could do. I could do more misty water that moves laterally... but then that looks weird when it's flowing across the ground. Water in Minecraft is always going to look horrible at some point, so I just took the road that I most enjoyed. It's obviously not for everyone.
Honestly, high visibility or theming is not incompatible with good-looking colors.

What theme does red and blue together destroy? No, this is a serious question. It seems like you just don't like those two colors together for some reason and you're trying to talk me into changing them. If you have a real reason other than that you just don't like them together I'm all ears. The contrast was intentional, and I personally like it quite a bit. But besides the fact that you personally don't like those colors together, what reason should I have for changing one of the things that gets the most (so far positive) comments in the pack?

[further thought]
I think it may be because I can't find a way that the nether brick's blue looks good with any other palette of blocks, thinking building-wise. Beyond that, it's almost certainly personal opinion. The bright shades remind me of lego bricks, which is completely unrelated to this.
Well, opinions I guess. I just don't like the color combination. The textures themselves are nice, if I screw with the hue in Paint.NET.

And of course, by "work-in-progress" I mean "will never, ever be completed".

ModeratorThanks!
Thank you!
Just like the grass I've struggled with the leaves. It's wonderful to know that I've finally got a set of leaves that please people.
Thank you!
I put a lot of time into making it look unique. There are some things that could probably be improved if I went back and redid it all now, but I haven't the time to see to it anymore.
I was going more for crocheted... but I'll take it.
I'll look into it. Thanks for the feedback.
Well that's like... your opinion.
The blue also pops at a distance making nether fortresses easier to spot, which is good because I personally have a difficult time picking them out from the very samey-looking netherrack in vanilla.

Thank you!
Okay, then.

ModeratorFor the plank tops this is intentional.
I'll look into it. Thanks.
