. "Sanity" v.4.11 is now available for Minecraft 1.8.1 Random Improvements and Experiments!
Changes to this version include:
● Adjusted all of the Jungle Wood to be more like rosewood
● Remade Double-tall Fern
● Remade Fern
● Improved Particles
● Added custom Beacon model and textures
● Improved Ice block
So let's talk a moment.
I'm running out of things I really want to improve and add in this pack. My list is pretty much down to "re-do trees"... which I know everyone has been calling for for ages since my logs and leaves pretty much stink. Don't worry, I'll get around to those things eventually.
But besides that... what do you all think I should do to continue this pack? I've fallen almost completely out of love with modded Minecraft. This should be evident by the fact that I removed all of my mod support because I got sick of trying to maintain it when I don't even play with mods anymore. Besides that there's really not much I can think of to do to add to this pack, so I'm kind of at a loss.
I'm not sure I want to give up working on it... but at the same time I don't just want to add stuff for the sake of adding stuff. Or worse, making new textures just to re-do stuff that's fine as-is. If there are still flaws that need attended to that's one thing... but it's been a while since anyone has even complained about the atrocious leaves and logs so I doubt there's much I can still do in the way of improvement. It's not like I don't have other packs that could use my attention (I have at least two others that need finishing and a third I'd like to start), but at the same time Sanity is my baby and I don't want to walk away from it either. Let me know what you all think.
I honestly wouldn't have noticed that if I wasn't looking through a bunch of packs to learn how to disable alternate blocks on dirt and sand. I just noticed you had Silver Fish eggs files and went in to check it out
Hey! That's cheating!
Nah, just kidding. But no matter. I'm glad you noticed even if it was just because you were dissecting my files.

I think the pack is good as it is, and you shouldn't redo/fix anything if it isn't broken (except for the tree anyway). All we can do now for updates is wait for the 1.9 snapshots to come out so more textures are available to do. I have a lot of stuff to improve my pack, and ever since I got my Wacom Intuos, shading my blocks and items has gotten a lot more easier, and textures are coming in a lot more faster than expected. I'm actually dreading the day I come for my pack to move out of the WIP section.
I would recommend doing another pack actually. I believe you've (correct me if I'm wrong) never done a 32x pack before. So maybe it's time to step out of your comfort zone and do a higher quality pack, just a suggestion

In fact I've worked on two other 32x packs. Regalia, which is an unfinished collaboration with Malcolm5211 and CopperCookie; and Fall of Autumn, which was my entry for the Simple Pack Showdown II. I'm not keen on continuing Regalia. What made that one special was three people working together. While it's still somewhat unique in that it's a bright and cheerful medieval type of pack... it just wouldn't be the same if it's all my ideas and style. Maybe if a couple of other people would work on it with me I'd consider getting back to it. As for Fall of Autumn... it's now winter so the opportunity to publish that and have an audience for it has kind of passed. Again, I'm not really keen on working on it at the moment.
I don't know. Maybe I'll start something else entirely or maybe I'll just give up on making Resource Packs and start a Youtube channel or some other equally pointless endeavor.
The general consensus seems to be the left version is superior. Since I also happen to agree with that, it's the one that I'll be going with including a darker variation for the Dark Oak.
Just a quick update. I'm having a difficult time working on these things and trying to make them look good. Here's my latest and greatest attempt at birch leaves:
Also, I'm keeping the birch logs pretty much as they are. I don't care what anyone says, I REALLY like this incarnation of the birch logs. They're so pretty.
I'm having a real problem pinning down an idea for the Acacia leaves. I've tried a few different variations, and so far this concept is the only one I like... and I'm still not entirely sure I'm happy with it. I'd really like some suggestions and feedback so I can hopefully get a good acacia leaves block and never have to look at it again.
Let me know what you think. Is this better or worse than the existing one... and more importantly does it still suck?
Edit: Oh, and to answer the logical question: Yes, the atrocious acacia logs are being worked on. It will be replaced, if not in the next update then in the update after that.

The shapes on the new one are better, but the shading looks too flat to me.

Back to the drawing board then.
* sigh * Really starting to feel like giving up on this pack.
Oh, and before I forget to ask: Is everyone enjoying then new gray Spruce logs? It keeps feeling weird that I changed the color so dramatically after all these years.
Alvoria, don't still give up with texturing. I agree with you at discontinuing this pack, nothing to do before new Minecraft update. Try to start new totally different pack than this. For example 64x paintyish horror pack.
I'm not sure why... but I found this post extremely depressing. I'm sure you didn't mean it that way, but for some reason giving up on this pack but not on texturing as a whole seems hollow to me. Plus I'm not sure I have it in me to start an entirely new pack right now.
I'll think about it.
And while I'm thinking, care to offer any opinions on the questions I've asked?
I'm not quite sure whether to interpret this statement as a positive on my pack making skills or a negative on this particular pack. I think I'm just in a humbug mood and everything sounds worse than it's intended to be.
In other news, I made an Acacia Leaf block that I think I like!

Those leaves are fabulous, and yes, I do like the new spruce log.

Good to get some feedback on the spruce log. I've been kind of worried about that.
Well I've now finished the last of the leaves and logs. I decided not to totally re-do the Jungle log, just make it a little rougher. I honestly like the jungle log, so unless anyone strongly objects (and can suggest a better idea) I'd like to keep it. I'm also going to do a few miscellaneous improvements here and there, including remaking one of the oldest textures in the pack, but I think I'm just about finished with this and will be able to move on to something else.
Here's a question for everyone: I know it's late in the month now, but would anyone still be interested in a Christmas add-on pack? I didn't get started on it due to family stuff and a desire to remake the leaves before I started stringing lights on them. Let me know if you're interested, and I'll see about getting it finished before Christmas.
Feedback, suggestions, and Christmas cookies are appreciated.

ModeratorWhich do YOU Prefer?
Also, I made this tree too:
That tree is awesome, and needs no other to be compared to. It's coolness speaks for itself.

ModeratorThere are two trees in the top picture (well... two leaf patterns actually) and I'd like to know which one you like more.
But I am glad you like the new log textures.

Yay consensus!

ModeratorCan't a man change his mind?
Ah well. Better stay consistent since stability is totally my thing. Sorry everyone. Christmas (add-on pack) is CANCELED!
Maybe j/k?
