Its just the color brown/red (maybe yellow) "harmonizes" with furniture and your enviroment. Green stands out too much.
That was kind of the point. I wanted something different that would stand out a little bit. This is also why I made it such a muted green: so that it wouldn't be eye-gouging even in it's obviousness.
But if everyone but me hates it there's no point in including it. I've already done away with it so no worries.
Thank you for your feedback. Even though it makes me sad that I wasted a day on it I'm immensely grateful that people took the time to tell me that they don't like it!
Hey I just downloaded the pack and read through the last few pages. So I have two opinions;
Firstly, the textures themselves. I adore how they fit together, when they do. Like you said, default's maddening style changes (what were they thinking with the chicken item?) are frustrating to no end. I very much like how you decided to combat those Of course nothing's perfect and to me I don't really appreciate the grainy look on many textures (grass, logs, villagers etc) especially against the gorgeous smoothness of the wood blocks. The GUI's are probably my favourite thing, I adore the smooth item background. Anyway I can't give too much texture critique because this isn't the sort of texturepack I use very often.
Thank you for the feedback!
I'm glad that you like the overall look of my pack. I've tried to keep things consistent... or at least consistent in my own way of looking at it. I've gotten complaints about how "grainy" some textures are... but that's how the real world is. Some things are coarse while others are smooth and my textures reflect that. I know not everyone is going to like it, but that's how this pack is.
With that said, though, the grass is already slated to be replaced when I can find the time to do so, as are the logs. Not to remove the graininess, mind you, but just because those textures aren't good and I've known this since I put them into the pack. I don't think the villagers are grainy at all, and I'm not sure what you mean by that. Some of them are wearing rough leather and furs if that's what you're saying. Anyway, I'll take your feedback into consideration when I'm making the replacements. Again, thank you.
My more important point is about your plea for attention a few pages back. I completely understand the sentiment and don't really hold anything against you (I have the utmost respect for your work on critiquing other people's packs and participating in discussion in the discussion forums and union), but it seems poor form to me to be begging for people to like your work. Like lemon said, you have to have a reason to keep doing this, and if that reason is because you want other people to like your work then you have to pander to their needs, not expect them to pander to yours. Creating something that you believe is beautiful and then demanding that everyone else appreciate it is nonsense, and conversely if you create something that the crowd is asking for, it's quite likely that you as an artist will feel the work is hollow.
I'm written and re-written the reply to this so many times. Here's the short and hopefully not-too-bitter-sounding version: I am not sorry. At all. Creator Breakdowns happen. It's unfortunate, but I think all things considered I handled this minor one fairly well. It was certainly better than The Alternative.
Also, where did I ever demand that anyone like my work? Did I ever say I only wanted praise? I would have taken out-and-out animosity over silence. There are two very simple reasons for that:
First, I'm not the type of person who can create in a vacuum. I'm not. Particularly not when I'm being a stressed-out little psycho. I am my own worst enemy, my own harshest critic, and I know it. Having other people's opinions helps to focus my efforts and give me a more objective view of what I'm really doing right or wrong. The recent green wood thing is a great example: Just because Ithink something is a great idea doesn't mean it is. It makes me sad that other people don't like what I considered a brilliant idea... but at the same time I have to acknowledge that if people are coming out in force to tell me that I'm doing something wrong that it's probably true and that I need to take a step back and think harder about what I'm doing.
Yes, it makes me sad that I wasted a day working on that. On the other hand, I'm also very happy that people took the time out of their day to tell me that I'm doing something wrong. If I've behaved improperly in this thread, it's in not thanking every single person for their feedback even when it isn't what I want to hear.
Second, I live with the very real possibility that nobody actually uses this pack. My pack gets downloads on the day I update. When I haven't updated for a week, it gets very few to none. Why is that? Well I think that it's because when I update my pack gets on the front page of many sites, particularly MCF and PMC, and it's been around so long that people download it wondering why they've never noticed such a long-standing pack before. Most packs don't survive to a year, you see, so mine is a bit of a curiosity. I'd assume that once they try it they immediately delete it which is why when it's not in everyone's face it doesn't get any downloads. If it were something that people enjoyed I'd get a few downloads based on word-of-mouth alone. That doesn't seem to be the case, though.
It's either that or I have about 500 dedicated fans who are as dedicated to never saying a word to me as they are to download every update. I don't think that's particularly likely... but you never know.
Either way, getting feedback on my pack let's me know that people actually use it. The problem, of course, is that the feedback that I've been getting all but totally reinforces the idea that people aren't using my pack. People will gladly comment on the pictures that I post... but never on the other changes that I make to the pack even when I post them in the changelogs.
I've started and stopped many texturepacks and the one thing that has always remained constant is that I do them for myself. I create textures that I want to see in game, and although I put them up for others to use I don't expect others to use them.
And you see, that's not the type of person I am. While I'm occasionally selfish, I'm primarily a selfless person. When Christmas comes around my joy in the holiday season is in shopping and buying things for others. I get my emotional high of the season when I see my friends and family open the gifts I've picked out and carefully wrapped up for them. I love nothing more than knowing that they've enjoyed what I've done for them. I often joke about how if someone doesn't know what to get for me that they can hand me cash before Christmas so that I have more money in my holiday shopping budget.
The same spirit extends to my artwork. If I were doing this entirely for myself I would have quit long ago. The original purpose of this pack has long since been fulfilled, and I could have just left it at that. The only thing that keeps me working on this is the idea that someone somewhere really likes this thing. This idea becomes a little more dubious every day... but as long as I can hold onto the idea that someone other than me wants me to make this pack I'll keep working on it slowly but steadily. That's just the type of person I am.
Sorry for the rant, but I was surprised to such a respected texture-r pleading for replies. Stay strong, and search for your reason to texture
"Respected Texturer" HA! No, I'm not a respected texturer. I'm some jerk on the forum who's good at writing critiques and tutorials. Actually making packs is the least notable thing I do on this forum. I'm under no illusion about that.
And don't worry, I have a reason to keep texturing. If you use my pack for a length of time, you might even see it spelled out in four words as one of the splashes. No, I have a reason to texture. I'm just looking for a reason to keep texturing for this pack.
I have two concepts for Dark Oak wood... and I think I like this one better:
If anyone wants I'll post the other one. It's lighter and somewhat more purple. It felt creepier and more run down... but I don't think it felt right for the pack so I didn't finish it.
Critiques are appreciated, as usual.
Edit: Sorry for the larger pic. For some reason Imgur made the resized version darker than normal. Apologies to those with slower connections. It's not too much larger, so hopefully it's not that bad.
wow, that one looks really cool I like the style of the slabs
(would love to see the other concept too)
OK, here you go!
I haven't finished the fence/fence gate or doors in this screenshot, obviously. I quit about half way through hen I realized how much more I liked the richer wood when compared to the lighter, more purple dark oak wood.
Critique is appreciated... though I really doubt I'll use this concept unless I somehow get as much love for it as I did dislike for the green jungle wood. (And even then only maybe)
I like the first dark oak a lot, but the second does have potential for working well. Natural-looking wood is really more reds and oranges of different saturations, so the dark brown looks nice and natural, but that other shade might be good for a haunted house. Maybe for a holiday-themed version of this pack or something, but you're right; it doesn't really work in this version of this pack.
I do like the concept of the green wood, but I can't really think of a way other than tweaking the color to be more orange to make it look better for those who outright dislike it, and even then it might not be perfect enough for them. Kind of a shame that everyone else doesn't like the version you already scrapped, though.

I doubt I'll ever have time to make a holiday-themed version of the pack. Honestly I'd be better off just making a different pack if I wanted a Halloween-themed one.

Yea...
Ah well. I'll continue to try to sneak in green stuff for my own enjoyment wherever I can. Hopefully most people will continue not to notice or be bothered by the abundance of green in the pack.
Sometimes, it's the small touches that really make a pack. Case in point, this little "fix" for the weirdness that is pumpkin and melon stems.
No more connecting to the sides of blocks. Feels good, doesn't it? Yea, it feels right.
I'm going to spend the day working on the update. I might even get Acacia wood finished if I can think of a concept or color scheme that I like. We'll see what happens.
Yep. That makes them look very real, especially since the vine was always on top of the pumpkin - even before their farmability - so it's always odd that the vine grows out of the side and leaves a stem in the top. Mission accomplished!
Yup, I'm done with wood. I'm tired of it, so I went all out with the acacia wood. The walls are mixed wooden tiles, the flooring is random planks, the slabs are tiger wood, the doors are also tiger wood but have a cool "cabana" look to them... Everything is AMAZING and I'm sick and tired of looking at it.
Feedback is appreciated, although at this point I could almost care less. This project has gone on for WAY too long and wasn't NEARLY as much fun as I thought it would be.

YAY! I did something right today! Huzzah!
And yea, I know exactly what you mean. That always bugged the crap out of me from the moment they became farmable. I'm SOOOOooo happy to have this fixed in my pack.
. "Sanity" v.4.07 is now available for Minecraft 1.8 Acacia wood, better stems, and cooler pressure plates!
Changes to this version include:
● Add custom textures and models for Acacia Wood blocks
● Fixed stairs glitch
● Made pumpkin/melon stems connect to the top of the fruit rather than the side.
● Make stone, iron, and gold pressure plate match wooden one
So I'm just going to assume everyone is OK with the wild look of the acacia wood since nobody commented on it. Seriously, people came out in force to protest the green jungle wood but acacia wood that looks like it belongs on the wall of a diner is OK with everyone huh? Ah well. Right now I don't have any better ideas so I'll run with it. Look for the tiled acacia wood to be replaced someday, though, as the more I look at it the more I dislike it personally.
That aside, I'm probably going to do one more update next week and then take a break from updating this for a little while. I want to work on Fall of Autumn and get it to a point where I can feel OK publishing it. Maybe not finished in my usual sense... but at least to where the blocks, items, and GUI are finished. I'll worry about the mobs next autumn.
Feedback and critiques are, as always, greatly appreciated.
On of my animation teachers once told me: "You will spend an inordinate amount of your time adding details that nobody will ever notice or care about... as long as you do it right".
This is a bit of a case-in-point of that, I think:
The acacia wood is GORGEOUS! It's one of my favorite things about this pack.
I'm really happy that you like it!
I was initially dubious that anyone would enjoy the acacia wood, but it's comforting to know that someone does. Right now I'm still planning to change it at some point... but if I continue to get positive feedback about it I might consider changing my mind.
I'm really proud of the stems. At the risk of sounding like I'm patting myself on that back, those were a bit of a stroke of genus. They turned out looking great, and they seem so natural with the connecting to the top and all. They definitely solve one of my pet-peeves with Minecraft.
I'm really happy that other people are loving them too.
Thank you both for the feedback! I greatly appreciate it!
Greetings all. I could really use some feedback on the new grass I'm working on. Take a look!
Also, is everyone OK with the current side grass? I'm not sure whether or not I like it, personally. Please leave some feedback so I know if I'm going in the right direction or if I need to try something different. I'd like to get some opinions before I begin revising the podzol, and other fun grass-related things.
As if I haven't driven the point home enough, feedback is greatly appreciated.

The new grass looks pretty good. I'm OK with the current side-grass, it looks a bit noisy to me, but I'm not sure if that can be changed all that much without making it clash with other parts of the pack.
"Sanity" v.4.08 is now available for Minecraft 1.8 The Complete Grass Overhaul!
Changes to this version include:
● Re-added Minecraft Realms icons (Thank You, Kwerti)
● Improved Activated Lever texture
● Improved Activated Pressure Plate Textures
● Re-made Grass
● Re-made Tall Grass and Double Tall Grass
● Re-made Podzol
● Re-made Snow
● Added snowy side variants for Mycelium and Podzol
● Corrected Tall Fern color
Some feedback would be nice.
Also... would anyone be interested in a "Lite" version of Sanity? It occurred to me that I've added quite of lot of textures with block models, and most of them are just for fun things rather than covering a serious need. I intend to keep going with this as I'm having quite a lot of fun with the block models system, but I also acknowledge that Sanity is starting to fall from it's goal of having a realistic pack that anyone can run. Granted I optimize absolutely everything I to, as evidence by the fact that my ancient laptop can still run this pack without issue. Still, a "Sanity Lite" would address the waste by having all of the core/vanilla elements but removing all of the block model and MCPatcher stuff, making for a much smaller file and somewhat less process-intensive experience.
If this is something you'd enjoy using, please let me know. I'm weighing the idea in my head, and would like some feedback.

I'll leave the grass as it is then since it doesn't really bother me either. I may revisit it at some point, but there's really no need to at the moment.
I, personally, wouldn't use a light version. I LOVE all of the bells and whistles, and they make this easily one of the best, if not THE best pack I've seen.

. "Sanity" v.4.10 is now available for Minecraft 1.8 MCPatcher and GUI Update!
Changes to this version include:
● Fixed the inverted stair textures
● Removed unused MCPatcher animation files
● Fixed Description for Achievement "Hot Topic"
● Created new health, hunger, and XP bars for improved visibility
● Added custom glint for Depth Strider enchantment
● Added Enchanted Book icon for Depth Strider
● Added Custom Colors for Endermite Egg
● Made new color scheme for Potions and status effects
● Changed Status Effect Icons to match the default potion colors
● Made Status Effect Icons match Custom Colors with MCPatcher installed
● Animated new Health, Hunger, and XP bars.
Feedback would be greatly appreciated. In particular, I'd like to know how everyone feels about the new MCPatcher-enabled color scheme for the potions. I hope that they work as well as possible for everyone.
