I am using a very old CRT monitor, and when it comes to dark scenes on my monitor, it is 'very' dark. Dark visuals that most people have no problems seeing things in, are often pitch black for me, literally a black screen. This is after setting my brightness to maximum and putting torches everywhere. When I am in the nether, specifically nether fortress areas (or what I 'think' are such), things are so black I cannot tell open space from wall.
Can anyone suggest a texture pack for me that will brighten or otherwise give some colour texture to nether fortress components such that I will actually be able to see what I am doing?
Check your monitor/computer settings. is the brightness down?
The brightness on the monitor is so high, that whites hurt my eyes. The problem is that my old monitor simply cannot display subtleties when it is extremely dark, it simply displays black.
Actually, I downloaded Glimmar's Steampunk texture pack, figuring that all the extra 'texture' on his textures would give my monitor something to display other than a variety of ultra darks, which displays for me as simply pitch black. It worked like a charm. I don't really want to play in a steampunk world (even though they are indeed very nice textures), but I can activate it for those few times when I otherwise can't see anything.

If you want i can give you a brightened version of the regular textures, but i couldn't tell you if it would help.
made textures 50% brighter, little difference.
