Thanks, i'll look at the eyes, they are pretty spot on to the ref photos but i wanted him looking up a bit like soppy puppy dog eyes
Yep Shaders really do wash out mobs you have to really darken them and add exaggerated contrast, which you can only test in game until its right.
Until SEUS is written for the new format, then it just wont work. I'm not going to be updating for a while, but i'll get textures done for it. Are you sticking with 1.4.7 for now?
Here's wolfy so far 2x zoom, still lots to do, bottom parts are still being worked into.
I'm going to be doing a bit of both versions when 1.5 comes out. I'm not switching until the full release, but when it comes I'll test compatibility with 1.5 plus, while testing shaders/ctm with 1.4.7. I will probably use whichever it is on at the moment for testing blocks and items.
That picture of a wolf behind your texture makes me want to draw/paint IRL. I have some pretty good paintings specifically based on wolves, with sketches being just about equal, but more varying. I don't know why so many of my paintings are of wolves... I guess they just have that "feel".
I like how you make your fur texture. It is the way most of us "should" make it... But I, for one, take some heartless shortcuts when making fur...
I love the fur, by the way you do it is it safe to guess that you have a tablet to work on, or something similar? Doing something like that with a mouse would be a nightmare.
On the eyes, I agree with Corner_g, they look a little off in game. (Though they look dead on in the file.) My suggestion for a puppy-eyed look is to enlarge the pupils and add extra highlights. However, I have a lot of old roots in manga and anime, so that may not fit as well stylistically for you. ^^'
I like the potions, too. The perfect-sphere shape is neat Are the two bands supposed to wrap all the way around though? It looks like the left-right one wraps while the front does not.

Thanks guys actually the fur was done with the mouse, layers and brushes I do have a large wacom though that's used for some things.
Thanks, yes there is bit of artistic licence with the bottles, i have to keep them clear in the middle for the liquid so yes the band behind is not there but i dont think it kills the visual too much
That is some amazing work you have there, looking forward to it's release.
Thanks very much, keep checking back
Right here's the wolves guys. Its annoying you can't give them a nice detailed collar though, i'm assuming its hardcoded? They are shader adjusted also.
I would recommend with the collar, to have it come out and be around the body a little bit as well, so the dogs head don't look to be attached to a solid face, and you can see it from other views.
Like with my puppys. You could also make it be a scarf, not just the normal boring collar.

ahh okay so take it onto the scruff, thanks Taiine i'll try it now. Am i right the front bit is always one flat colour in code because you can dye it now? Ah how do you have different colours on the scruff, as you can dye the front bit? Or do a generic texture and just have the front change color i guess?
EDIT thanks i haven't see you in here as yet, and i know you have a good eye and very clued up with how MC works so I appreciate the feedback... i may have to pick your Tekkit brain at some point if thats ok?

Actually, I haven't seen or textured wolves since the dyed collars were added, but there is an image in the mob folder called "collar", and it is pretty much empty, but has the square collar in place where the corresponding part of the wolf textures was. I'm not sure if it is used anymore, but I would imagine that it would be greyscaled for the dyes to work.

I'm pretty sure the collar isn't hardcoded to be square, as Misa's little bandannas work just fine with dyes. I think you can technically add color as well, but the dye will be overlaid on it. For example, if you added blue polka dots, they wouldn't stand out on a blue collar and would look green on a yellow one, but probably brown if the collar was dyed orange.
They look so fuzzy, I want to snuggle them

Glad you noticed the collar thing, I spent ages trying to figure out why my dog had a mismatched collar because I didn't realise I had dyed it a similar shade of red to the default collar (similar but not the same, hence why it was driving me crazy because it didn't match up with my png file :P) and my collar also went back onto the scruff a little.
Wasn't till a few weeks after I released my update with the dog texture in it (without the collar texture on the scruff because I thought it couldn't be affected by dyes) that I found out about the separate collar.png file...
Anywho, that was a pointless little story but your texture for them looks great!
Just a few little things though: -the side of the scruff needs a bit more shadow just behind the collar to show that the collar is really on top of the dog, not glued to it. (just a tiny bit more)
- the fur on the side looks a tiny bit odd because it goes straight down and the fur on top and on the scruff goes straight back... It's a bit of a jarring change, maybe you could make the fur on the back curl a bit towards the sides to make the transition a bit less jarring?
-at the bottom of where the snout joins to the face, the light fur there, just below the mouth makes it very obvious that the snout is a different section to the actual face. Making the snout blend in a bit more to the face would make it much better!
Hmm... it almost look like separate collars to me. It might look a little better if the bling bit was centered on the dyed leather, with some red showing on each side.

God yea, the collar drove me nuts until i was told about the file!
I'll look at the fur and blend it a little more ..............i'm also toying with the idea of upping the res of all mobs to the size of a 256 pack to have more detail.

Hey
Hmm, How would i do that? i can't have any colour on the sides.... well i can but it has to be something neutral like silver/gold because the collar only changes colour on the front with the recent versions being dye able And it would clash really bad if i had red only on all sides, then someone dyes the front purple. Also any colours or text on the front of the collar have to be greyscale so it will just tint to the dye.
I have NO idea how Misa has different colours appearing on the scruff, as the game code only changes the front collar.
I'd loved to do more with the collars, am i missing something and not understanding how the collar works?
EDIT.......haaaang on! If i add a new grey scale bit to the collar PNG on the scruff it will show up on the wolf won't it
That will dye the side part...............goes to try
EDIT its works............ now i have to do some fiddly cutting out so the clasps and CH parts, stay the silver/grey colour and the rest get dyed........wooooo.......what would i do without you lot
Just to make this clear, I´m complaining on a high level here because it´s still the best realistic hd texture for a wolf that I´ve seen yet, but these things were really salient to me.
Thanks Aww i really like the big eyes it fits imo with the cartoony side of Chroma hills.
I'm not the best at characters and hope to improve as they go on. I was always an environment/asset artist or lead game teams with character artists that I just gave direction
The mobs will be quite the challenge for me. I was going to do different fur colours for release, i quite like the warmer brown though.
Here's a grey version, does that sit better for you?
Oh and getting these buggers to sit still to get a screen grab is a right pain in the BUM!
Way better! Seriously, this changes things completely. The eyes are still a bit too big for me but that became a lot less important now that the base colour of the wolf is right.
And I understand that you like the big eyes, but I don´t agree with you that it would fit the given style. Normally yes, big eyes are cartoony but the quality of your wolf texture is just too realistic, which leads to the same effect as in commercial portrait postprocessing. The eye size gets doubled, which looks great at a first glance but goes increasingly weird the longer your look at it.
Ah Moo's happy-er good good
I will look at the eyes, there's not actually that many pixels to work with them........to the detail i would like so i did size them up.
I'm still thinking should all mobs be done at 256 not 128........that means doing the wolf from scratch and leaving these ones as 64x pack versions........ I really cant decide.......maybe they will be fine and i'm being picky??
Also Moo i did a monster spawner above and buzzed you a PM a few days back if you get a moment

I like the eye size, but I think the black around them makes them look a bit bigger than they are. What if the black was lightened to something like... a 90% gray? I think just lightening it up will make the eyes look smaller.

I won't post any more wolf pics that's all the last few pages are Will do a little brightening around the eyes see what we get
I really need to get back on the terrain, so will look at what's left to do but i did enjoy getting the first finished mob done as a break.
Does anyone have an opinion on if i should do the mobs in a higher res?
