Hi all, I'm a 40 (something) yr old artist/designer from the UK I've been working on Chroma Hills since Sept 2012. This project has been a real labor of love and a passion to create my vision of Minecraft. It's been a massive commitment to work at this detail level and with the continuing updates from Mojang. I'm overwhelmed at how many people now use it and look forward to the updates.
Chroma Hills is the official pack of Sonic Ethers Unbelievable Shaders SEUS support with many additional textures to create bump mapping and specular effects.
The pack also features 2000+ additional textures that are supported by MCpatcher and Optifine mods.
Connected textures, random mobs, custom skies supported.
If you intend to add connected textures, random textures and random mobs then I'd definitely be interested to see it, and possibly use it for some youtube stuff.
Hey Rufus, cheers! I think it may end up that I need to get others involved with mobs, but environment wise that's pretty much the plan
Some textures and GUIs are from Sphax, the rest, I have no idea. Probably Google Images
I'm using Sphax as a BASE to build my pack on, its very early stages so Sphax is very much still visible. It explains this in my opening post. As for the 'rest' i have a rather messy photoshop PSD file with umpteen layers of workings i can post up, won't lie I've used tinternet for some reference on a few areas. I've put serious hours in, you can ask my wife and kids LOL. Dodge and burn my friend, dodge and burn............
Back on track, thanks for the messages asking for the pack, its really not quite ready yet, when i have most of the base terrain done I will put it up, i will also remove all Sphax assests from the pack entirely.

... I wonder if there is a reason I find this statement unsettling...
Your pack is of utterly professional quality though. I highly recommend releasing this when the sphax template is replaced with default, but if and when you do, be sure to post a small example or preview of the layering process you used in making the textures, perhaps a simple step diagram, so people won't make the same mistake in thinking they are Google images. The fact that that mistake could be made is a compliment in itself!
At some point if you continue this, I would suggest adding bump mapping and specular mapping support. You appear able to use the unbelievable shaders mod, it is an extension on the GLSL engine used.
Edit: 1 year later, and this is still of utterly professional quality!

Hi, thanks for the comments!
Yes i'm more than happy to show my workings, and also i'll will look into other shaders etc but first of as you said I will get this as a basic release so i can get some feedback from players in the game world.
A little about my background. I started in the games industry working on Amiga (Deluxe paint was a close friend) at around 17 pushing pixels and i'm heading towards 40 now Throughout my 10 year stint i worked on Amiga, Gameboy Colour/Advanced, consoles up to PS2/PC was mostly a 2d artist then turned to 3d (as game tech evolved) middle to end of my career. Now i run my own design business but I've always liked pushing pixels (but with a little help from the Photoshop tool set). I'm not going to list what I've worked on its a lot of titles some you will know and some are projects that never saw the light of day. I want this thread to be about about the MC pack not my past.
Now a bit older/greyer lol, i had an just and urge last month to create my own pack, I just hope i can finish it as i have a lot more priorities these days!
I'll get some more screens shots up and look at getting some layers workings up, maybe even a vid or 2 of making some
Everyone assumed this wasn't your work purerly because your avatar is default which, in my opinion, is very foolish of those people! This pack is gorgeous and you should definately continue it.
Actually I thought this might now be his work because of the little bit of Sphax in there, coupled with me not completely reading the text due to my utter mental exhaustion at that point. Now being awake enough to fully read the text I see I was wrong.
These are some really professional looking textures, which isn´t surprising judging by your background. I especially like the curled sand and the dirt with these bright spots in it. The stone looks too shiny and polished for my taste and the wool looks more like leather because it lacks the fluffy feeling that it should have.
I also don´t get what you wrote about the style of your texture pack ("[...]quite, arcadey, old school console in colour and style.") since this description doesn´t fit at all. It is more like semi-realistic with a little roleplay touch perhaps, but definitely not old school. At least if you are not around the age of 10 and consider a PS2 or Xbox to be a retro console. So this confused me a bit, but maybe you had something else in mind.
Hi, thanks for the comments, and feed back
Yes actually description is a bit off style wise. Its a style I liked on older tech/generation machines and enjoyed creating, I dont see as much RPG in it as you and i've kept away from to ornate styling in metals and other areas. It has a realistic edge as the detail in 128x128 will allow the depth but i want the style to take it away from photo realistic packs, i guess kinda like a Sphax in much more detail, with a colour palette that doesnt have to much saturation, and more towards a pastel hue. Remember its still early days so i may change things up here and there.
The wool is actually done with a purpose in mind, but i did go for a subtle sheeps coat texture but I also very much want the wool to work well as a good use of colour for building structures. Builders use the wool textures to enhance their creations with the colour pallete it provides so i'm happy to have it look a little less wooly :)......... if that makes sense??

Hey, not a prob. I'm going to get some work in progress of some texture work up soon, I dont have everything as i merged and flattened some layers, when things started getting a lil too messy!
You asked to see some workings of the texture pack, so i've sorted a few bits and pieces, and will be working on some new ones tonight prob Chests i think will be next. I still will prob rework and tweak most textures.
Glow stone WIP in game but thinking about it this is used for lanterns, lights so i'm thinking too organic. I'll maybe use the holey brick without the glow elsewhere, poss in the Nether somehow.

Great that you like it though
Cheers! So much still to do

I'll sort out some more workings also.
Playing with a Glow stone texture, came up with this but i'm not sure. Do you think stick with a more man made look, rather than organic?
