Another vid to show guys, being working on some ore block effects and took up Glimmar's challenge of animating the new emerald ore. I may have to cut the frames as it uses 40 but anyways here you go.
That reminds me of... Some game... But I can't remember what. I really love it, though! It seems "powerful" and "mystical". I could see me using that ore itself as decoration. it would also be really rewarding to find that in a cave in survival! Walking through a dark cave, wandering nervously into the lurk of the mobs, to unexpectedly find that! Glimmering in spite of it's own sheer crystallized power and monetary value! A pure, solid emerald, hiding it's indescribable, unimaginable face from the lands above!
Wow... this may be the texture pack to end all texture packs for me. Animated ores is the best idea for minecraft I've seen in a while, and this pack does it so perfectly. I don't know if my computer can run it (smoothly) though... I currently run Sphax at 128x, but with the animated textures, I may need to switch to 64x.
Either way, I'm still super excited.

That's perfect!
When I did mine, I thought I'd be able to get over the problem of repetitive twinkles by having lots of sparkles all over the place, at quite a rapid frequency, but I think it would have been better to have had less at a slower beat...as you seem to have done.
Lol! I don't consider 40 frames as being too long! Perhaps that's why my packs run so slow for some even though they're only 32 and 64x. I'm guessing 40 frames at 128x for lots of different blocks, might soon bump up the frame rate and the pack size, but I'm no expert on that side of things. I just blindly throw stuff into mine and hope for the best!
Low frame numbers would be good if you consider at some stage combining animation with ctm. This is a lot easier to do now in 1.5 through MC Patcher, because each ctm tile can be made up of a strip .png anim. So you could easily have a few different types of the same ore for variety, along with different animated sparkles, etc. Thus, you don't end up with glaring repetition when you have a lot of ore in the same location. Means a lot of work, but it's a lot simpler to organize it in the pack now once everyone moves over to 1.5. I'm not sure how things will be with Optifine though.
Absolutely love the mycelium! Again incredibly 3d, and very fungal looking. Top marks, and for the pack too! I got the latest test pack to work, but with having moved over to 1.5 snapshots, couldn't give the shaders a go. Shaders or no, it looks very spiffing indeed! So no-one needs to worry about the quality of workmanship here...I can definitely testify that the sample screens above are genuine! Hehe!
Being an MC Patcher only texture artist (nothing against Optifine, I hasten to add), I guess I'm never going to be able to catch up on the shaders side of things, which is sad, because I can see just how amazing the lighting is in your screens and vids. Not that I understand the subject in any way shape or form. Or have the time on top of ctm and animation to research it. So I will just have to content myself with admiring how well it looks in Chroma Hills!
Wow those emeralds are so amazing. In contrast though, they do make the redstone and diamond ores look a bit dull :S the gold still looks great, its just the redstone especially seems to suffer, and diamond a little too. It's not easy to see from the video, but I know those ores were done a while ago, maybe it's time for a revamp anyway? The quality of the blocks has definitely been increasing as the project progresses
Thank you so much! I just love it when animated textures are added into texture packs.
You're welcome, i really like animating so even if there is not too much of it in the first release expect a LOT Cant wait to animated the Tekkit/FTB blocks!

Thanks that great to hear Yes if i carry on animating all sorts of blocks it will take a hit on some peoples FPS depending on their PC spec.
Good news though i did a test scale down to 64x and i was incredibly please to see how well it retained the detail but if you can guys play this on 128x as it is the native resolution.

Yeah i tried a few ideas but a small amount of glow and a main twinkle i thought would be quite satisfying, then i just held the first frame for around 30ticks in the properties file so it was too frequent Yep 40 blocks of 128x times say all the Ores animating is going to hit the FPS. Ah great you got to play test it As i said with non shader it will have some dodgy textures or contrast lighting issues until i work on them but it should still look pretty OK and seems you came away pretty happy
You can run MCpatcher and Optifine together, i started a thread on that subject and some of the guys posted their setups and how to do it http://www.minecraft.../#entry20330679

Cheers Alex, well i still like the redstone but i was going to animate it to make it look energized and powerful so lets see. The diamond has already had a bit more shading and definition and of course will be animated. The gold is totally new more like a nugget now is that the one you mean or the old one? Umm lapis..... will its being totally redone Yeah its been great to revamp some of the older work with the help from you guys and your feedback. The tree leaves are being totally redone but I keep putting them off!
The new stone turned out great, i'm content. Mycellum is great too, the second version.
The emerald animation is simply outstanding.
Could I maybe have the new files so I can take a closer look at them?
Ah great stuff on the new blocks, i did that stone just for you...........well actually you pressed me to look at ways it can be improved so thank you *hug* .... it's ok guys TWS is a lady I don't think i can tile it any better, well probably but its good enough and i have quite a few rock layers in the PSD files now so.........CTM.
Yes i will get a new version zipped up and over the testers
Well i'm working on various things at the mo i'll post later but the survival hud/icons are underway, it will be quite traditional nothing too out there but just nice and keeps with the pack.
I'm noticing a LOT more people visiting the thread which is just wow and we are getting a ton more views a day so thank you and i hope you're enjoying the progress/updates. If you want to support the pack don't forget to grab one of the sig banners from the support section on the front page.
Again just wow and thanks i'll keep at it to get that first release out! Thanks also to those of you subscribing to the YT channel 30/40 subs appeared in just a couple of days!
Couple of other things the domain Chromahills.com is now registered so that means a website as a central hub for all things CH will be coming and Facebook page should be up soon.
Oh, man. This is the pack to end all other packs!! Great look to it, it feels very different and awesome. I'm glad I found this as soon as I did! Just amazing. It's great that you interact with the followers and show the development. And I'm loving that emerald. Super detailed and dimensional. As far as the mycelium goes, I love it, but it may need some color, even if its just a little bit. My personal opinion, but I think it looks a little too dull. I would be honored to test this pack, if you want. A side note, it appears that the forums are not allowing me to use the sigs. Says that I can't have 2 lines of text, someone wanna help me out?

Thanks! Great to hear such positive comments for the pack I do try and reply to all its the least i can do if people take the time to post on the thread I can see lots of new faces popping in and i'll do my best. I love working on it and i thought it would be good to show some of how i go about things from a creative point of view and also to show a little insight as to how much it takes to produce a HD pack. Noted on the Mycelium colour thanks, i do have some guys testing let me get back to you on that one so yes possibly
Hmm the sigs should work, as you can see from the post below, i'll look into it but for now just remove the line of text and it will work although it should work anyways.
I'm very impressed with your work. I believe this pack could be the next best thing for Minecraft.
Thank you very much That is a very positive comment indeed and there are some huge packs out there so we will see.
Thanks for rocking a banner also!
Ok guys, I've put some time into the survival HUD its not overly fancy or IMO hugely distracting but clean and doesn't stray too far from vanilla for anyone switching over. I've added the poison hearts on the end just so you can see.
I would like to hear some feed back Oh someone pointed out the number font is a little large i will shrink that down as i totally agree.
Looks great! Could you also make a x32 and a x16 pack?
Thanks, i think that's a little low for the detail in this pack
Right its silly o clock in the morning (6.40am to be precise) I've been playing with getting something done for the survival inventory for WAY to long tonight/morning it needs a bit more work but my eyes wont work anymore so that's enough for now.
I'll leave you with how it currently looks.............
So much happens if I leave for a little while! I'm loving the progress, everything looks beautiful. Can I suggest animating the mycelium to subtly change colors, similar to Misa's? I don't want to suggest copying, but the mycelium is one of my favorite parts of her pack. Also, I may have missed a post in my catch-up reading, but do you plan to animate the rest of the ores?

Hey, ah i noticed you hadn't been on for a little while Hmmm animating Mycelium? Something i can look at once the release is out i guess. Yep ores that need it will be animated, will have diamond done shortly, have an idea for red stone but i think it might to frame heavy!
SO how do you find the survival hud and gui as that's where I've been putting all my efforts recently?
D O W N L O A D???????? I N E E D T H I S P A C K!!!!!!!!!!! P L E A S E G I V E A WIP DOWNLOAD!!!!!!!
Its coming i want to make sure you guys have enough of a finished pack to hopefully enjoy it with a more fuller experience, great youre looking forward to it
I'm really liking all the GUI details you have shown, especially the inventory screen.
Will you be adding any animated textures for the 1.5 update? I have been seeing some really cool ideas, like glowing lights, swaying leaves, & shimmering gold blocks...
I ADORE your GUI's, all of them, HUD too. I only have one suggestion: add an alternate version that doesn't have transparent backgrounds. It may just be me, (I have ADHD) but seeing everything through the GUI's and the HUD is distracting. I was really tempted not even to say that, though, cause they're so danged pretty!
Also, side note, if you do decide to throw in some alts, I recommend a little wrought iron lantern for torches. A normal torch looks kinda funny in a house in my opinion.

On the Crafting GUI... It seems a little strange. I remember looking at the Furnace GUI thinking that it looked so natural with the function of the furnace. The crafting table doesn't have a bucket on a chain that dispenses the newly created item, so it's a bit strange to me.

Hey Techno, ah no that isn't the crafting GUI that is the survival player inventory, although i'm open to suggestions as to what the item container could be as i wasn't to full of ideas that tied into being something on your person.

Well, what if instead of the bucket in the player inventory it was the player's hand? Not the pixelated vanilla hand, but a hand created by you to fit the GUI?
Just an idea

Ah, I see. Definitely less weird, though I'm not a huge fan of that part. Maybe something more like a pouch, or satchel... something that looks like it could be carried by the player.
I would like to suggest that the crafted item would look like it goes into your hand (because you can only craft items like that from that screen anyway) except that Minecraft hands are rectangular solids, and using a realistic hand wouldn't make much sense.
So I understand the dilemma here. I've never seen a texture pack try to customize the Inventory in that way (though I haven't seen many), so I don't think I could complain about whatever choice you make, especially knowing that I can't say what I would prefer.
Sorry for being so inconsiderate as not to even read your entire post.

If I add a lot of anims it could cause problems with performance on some peoples PC's. For example my Emerald anim is 42 frames of 128x128 thats now 42 extra HD textures the games has to render.

Ah i'll note what you said Zig For me its the other way round i really dont like solid gui's i like them open. I can do simple solid fills of the open areas for an alt but if I get all creative with filling the gaps that would be a lot of work as i designed them open.
Actually those torches are pretty old now, so they will prob get a revamp
Been working on more items today as i still have a ton to do, just finished the fish item and did a video of the creation process.
What if, for alt GUI's, and possibly for the items section of the HUD, you just laid the normal one over a piece of parchment, similar to the map background? Or the items section of the HUD could be laid over a rolled-out scroll? Those should be fairly quick solutions
By the way, how long have you been using Photoshop? I've been consistently in classes for it and Illustrator for about four years, but your videos and the quality of your work both give me the idea that you've been at it far longer than me. (Hope you don't mind me asking!)

Actually those torches are pretty old now, so they will prob get a revamp
Been working on more items today as i still have a ton to do, just finished the fish item and did a video of the creation process.
By the way, how long have you been using Photoshop? I've been consistently in classes for it and Illustrator for about four years, but your videos and the quality of your work both give me the idea that you've been at it far longer than me. (Hope you don't mind me asking!)
