I'm having trouble getting the shaders to work. I followed the guide on the website and when I launch the game it just goes to a black screen and freezes.

Hmm sounds like they aren't installed right, with a black screen freeze. Can you post on the CH forum support thread so i or someone can help get you going Just register and post, its very quick sign up http://www.chromahills.com/forum/index.php
First time lets play of CH i think quite strange to see it somewhere else Nice job...........just stop dying :D:D I kept saying "i really must texture that" LOL
Today when digging out my new underground tree farm I found that the chests have no underside which makes them look... rather weird. Don't know if you already have it on your list, if not,.. well you know what to do.
Well umm yes i havent done them so umm yes i need to do them
I have a 64x pack ready to go folks.......will upload in the morning ish my time 11.30pm here at the mo.

What type of graphics card do I need to run this texture-pack with the "shaders"?
Well I'm Nvidia guy and I've had it running on 460gtx as a test with around 35-40 frames as test. I run a 670 now. You also need a good amount of Ram 6-8 and allocate a bit more to minecraft say 3mb (i use magic launcher for this) but you can make a BAT file also.
Whats your PC spec? it may well run lower but yo will get quite choppy FPS.
I used to have a HD 6770 and could only run shaders at arond 10-15FPS, with an i7 and 8GB of RAM. However, the GTX 460 is MEANT to be about 30% faster, so I can see why you would get higher frames, but 35-40FPS is far more than I'd have expected.
Operating System: Windows Vista
Processor: Pentium® Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.5GHz
Memory: 4084MB RAM
The graphics card is the main thing we are after here. From the sounds of it, you have integrated graphics (I think the Pentium Dual Cores have integrated graphics?), which will NOT handle shaders very well, or even Minecraft that well. However, if you get 40+ FPS in Minecraft, you would probably have a dedicated graphics card installed. To find out what kind of card you may have, go to Start, type in "Device Manager" (no quotes), then expand the "Display Adapters" section. In there, you should see you graphics card name and model. Let us know what it says.

Alex is asking the right questions aboout your PC spec but it looks too low for shaders.........graphics card is the key (power)
Run the non shader 128x pack and tell us what frame rate you get.
Yes it was a pretty good frame rate Alex on the 460GTX (with CH shaders) latest SEUS shaders drop to 20/25 ish. I'll run the game on that other PC later and take a screeny
Well it's probably a dumb question, but... the shader files downloadable from CH site, they require another file, right? So where do I download the main shader file?
Ah my little dragon All you need is the Shadermod the 1.5 version. It is the unofficial version but there's a direct download link here and works fine. Must have Optifine A8 to use it. http://www.chromahil...m/downloads.php
Also i keep meaning to tell people (will update the FAQ) make sure lighting is set to MOODY, i tweaked the lighting to work best at this setting with shaders. I find 50% good for non shader pack.
Gonna try this a bit later when home.
I used to use Sphax 128x then once 1.5 came along, I tried to again and it was mega slow FPS.
I tried 64 and still terrible, even 32 was playable but looked crap, so wasn't worth it.
I don't know what the problem is, I really don't, which is annoying as I'm at IT technician full time!
Well yeh, advice on that, feel free (I'd post PC spec but not at home on it, if you are curious and want to help, reply and I'll let you know them later).
But back to thread! I'm looking forward to trying this out.
Do you want reporting back with bits and pieces which may be off or wrong or something like that?
Yeah it's a WIP still, so report any issues you find, we wouldn't want Sy getting bored would we?
Since 1.5 changed the way textures are handled entirely, it could be that which is causing you so much strife. However, I was under the impression that the change was supposed to REDUCE some lag. Could be wrong though. I always used to use Sphax also, but haven't tried it since 1.5.1 (I've been too lazy to try any pack other than Chroma Hills :P).
Let us know of your specs anyway, at some stage I will download the new Sphax and see how it runs on my new rig.

I use half of the default ram and it runs even better than the default.
