I feel like Chroma Hills is getting more cartoony as time passes. Aside from the evidence in the logo variants, some of the textures that have been remade (planks, leaves, glowstone, stone, cobblestone, etc.) have gotten more cartoony and less hyper realistic after their remake. Not that it's a bad thing mind you, cartoony packs have more charm and fit a not hyper-realistic game better. Still looking great though!
That is actually the whole point to ChromaHills. It is supposed to be "realistic" with a cartoony twist to it. I think it is really well balanced between the two. Sy has even stated he was trying to bring it back to a more cartoony style as he had intended since some of the textures had drifted to the "hyper-realistic" side of things.
I would say i'm still working on keeping that balance of detailed textures but with a semi cartoon styling and of course very bold and bright. I also feel the latest update of CH has a better quality of artwork as I've got more into my stride and I feel its much more the vision I had when i started out. I was quite rusty when i decided to start texturing again and i'm more confident in the creation processes and generally feel far happier with what I'm producing now to some months back.
I don't feel its gone too cartoony as i'm making sure the detail level is still high but yes i have softened some of the graininess that some of the textures had by changing the look of them or refining the existing ones.
So on a side note MERRY XMAS EVERYONE!! I'll check in on the forum when i can over the next few days.
I LOVE the H.R. Geiger inspired enderman, it takes the creepiness factor up big time. In fact your mobs; except may be the zombie who looks kind of aloof; are some of the creepiest textures out there.

lol the first time i saw a zombie i had to pause the game from how much i was laughing. not from how bad it looked but because to me it was the only cartoony mob. all before that i was ambushed by creepy skeletons,creepers,enderman,spiders, then i go in a cave and see a zombie. back then i didnt know it was a realistic/cartoonic pack though.

Hey folks. Hope you are all having a nice break. Just having a quick read through the recent posts. With regard to the mobs i may revisit or tweak the old ones as im getting to the point where I will mostly be working on mobs all the time.
The skeleton was never finished still missing much detail and i will do other variations also. So im still very much experimenting with the art style for mobs
I think all the hostile mobs that are currently done look amazing even the zombie, just felt like may be throw some blood and make the flesh look more rotten and torn open/peeling.
On the technical side I've noticed a lighting/particle glitch where there is pixel flickering on certain surfaces: Water at a distance, obsidian with lava under it, single layer of cobble with light above it.

They are single pixels that flicker (almost like sparkles) as you move the camera, it's basically the same on the other sufaces I mentioned, so I just took this still and marked the pixels.

Not sure if you have noticed an increase in downloads or not, but if you have, some might be from this guy that streams minecraft sometimes which I told about your texture pack and he likes it a lot and has been using it in his twitch streams. He gets hundreds of viewers sometimes and lots of people keep asking what texture pack he is using. You can see him at
and he usually does his minecraft streams in the morning starting about 7am Pacific Time.

You need to load the full res of the image to see them. Edit: it appears to be the mipmap level moved it from 4 to 2, may be you could explain why it was happening?

Yeah I figured it out when I was playing around with r3dcraft x128 and encountered the same effect. I guess mipmaps have something to do with texture compression or something? and too many compression layers were causing artifacts?? I still don't really understand even after reading some basic info on what mipmaps are.

Syclone i was just wondering when you would be finished with the mobs
Hey, well mobs are by far some of the most time consuming parts of the pack with working in a higher resolution i can spend a week on just 1 mob! So 2014 will be the year all mobs are done and the pack is fully complete. How soon each mob will be done I can't say but I'm almost at the point where it will just be all mob work left so you will see an increase in new mobs as I release updates
Not a straight answer but hopefully explains a little
So bit of an update folks.............
I'll be back on the pack more very soon, its been good to have some time out and I've been working on other games projects also. Our Survival horror game being worked on at Syclone creative studio is really exciting me (and the team) as are other titles I'm involved with.
I looked at doing the beacon beam texture but there seems to be something weird going on and it messes up the vertical tiling......need to investigate why.
Chroma Hills the official survival faction server is looking gob smackingly epic we have gone from a massive custom 14k square world to a staggering 30k square world!!! We are set to release END OF THIS MONTH!!! (eeek)
CH is heading towards half a million downloads just incredible. I WILL be putting out a 32x preview to gain feedback on with the next release.
Mod support with the assistance of some other talented artists is being discussed to help speed up the process.....don't worry I will have the final say in the quality and what is used. They know i'm a picky bugger when it comes to consistency and they are still taking to me lol
Well here's to CH in 2014.........SO folks what are are you looking forward to seeing done, whats on your wish lists ??

So.. I'm new to MC, but have known pretty much all about for a while now. So one of the first few things I did was search for a texture pack. Chroma Hills was about the 4th one I downloaded, and the only one I stuck with more than 5 minuets. I love it all. Its all so nicely done I think the armor and diamond tools are my favorites..
Just wanted to thank you for a very nicely done texture pack.
