This texture pack involves various tweaks to the default while retaining the same feel. Almost all item icons as well as some GUI ones have been edited, mostly to improve shading, but blocks remain largely the same so you don't have to worry about your creations only looking good because of your texture pack.
Notable differences from default:
Prompted by Lapis and Emerald, each ore has a unique pattern
Tool shapes become less crude as they advance in tier
Improved shading on many icons; see armour, for example
Since this is a derivative work based on images that are the property of Mojang AB I do not hold copyright on it. However, I would appreciate it if you did not take the edits I've made and redistribute them in your own texture pack.
Unlike most default edits, this is actually an improvement from the default starting point. The blocks all look nice, the unique tools are better than the default, and that armor is as good as you can make that style with 16x16! Nice job!
You should make some unique textures with no relation to the default and see if you could make a fully unique pack of your own, you appear able to make textures! The pack now though looks great. Well done!

I felt like the version number needed to be bigger so I changed a few blocks, re-tweaked every icon and added the stuff from the 13w01a snapshot.

I look forward to the 32x32 release! For just a WIP, it looks good!
It'll probably be a while because I need to do not just the items but everything else as well; terrain.png, the GUI, etc. Hopefully I'll finish it eventually though.

I love this texture pack! It's great since it's so similar to default that it's already compatible with most mods! (Although I did make a few tweaks to make some mod items fit the icon differences better, both with Mystcraft and Thaumcraft 3, no I will not distribute it.) Still, amazing work, I love the detail! The 32 bit version is looking great too, if you'll be making the blocks look 32 bit while keeping to the default style as well, it may replace the Faithful Pack as my usual "detailed default" pack.
I've tried to do this myself for months, but I've never been able to make it look this nice. Thank you for giving this to the world, as you did a wonderful job with it! Everything looks a lot cleaner, and the ores are nicely differentiated. This will definitely be the texture pack I use from now on.
EDIT: There was one thing that I noticed. Maybe it's possible to fix, maybe not. I've not tried, nor do I know much about texture pack creation. The water and lava are not animated in the default "Fast" grahpics setting. When I change them to Dynamic animation with OptiFine, they look normal. Not a problem, I just thought it'd be good to bring it to your attention.

That's funny, no matter what I do with my graphics the water isn't animated. (Haven't checked lava yet) How did you get it to work with OptiFine? I use the Standard Edition, so can I make it work with that?
Updated for 13w02a, with all that fancy new business of each texture having its own file. terrain.png and items.png are unchanged, so it should still work on 1.4.7 (or below).

I'm pretty sure this is actually caused by OptiFine. Vanilla Minecraft doesn't support custom lava/water animations, but OptiFine allows for those; since I didn't provide any for it to use, they appear static. I could possibly fix it by pasting in frames from the new, non-dynamic 13w02a liquids, but since it's apparently possible to fix it by changing an OptiFine setting and since it wouldn't be necessary after 1.5 anyway, I haven't done so.

I think that said options are only in some versions of Optifine, as I use the Standard version (Ultra has had some strange problems with other mods recently) and have found no options that add anything like that. The static water is annoying, but I can definately wait to 1.5 for it to be fixed.
Hey man, I just logged in to thank you for making this pack. I love it. It spices up the vanilla game without changing it too much. I hope you'll keep updating it because then I'll keep using it.

I've also been working on a 32× version which someone requested; here's a very WIP preview of the items.png of that for anyone that's interested:
- The Cubic Chunks Mod is back! Be a part of it's rebirth and Development.
-- Robinton's Mods: [ Mirror ] for some of his Mods incl Cubic Chunks Mod, due to DropBox broken links.
- Dungeon Generator for the Open Cubic Chunks Mod
- QuickSAVE-QuickLOAD for the Open Cubic Chunks Mod
It'll probably be a while because I need to do not just the items but everything else as well; terrain.png, the GUI, etc. Hopefully I'll finish it eventually though.
That's fine! Take your time!
