Block ID's are being phased out so it would have to be updated but I'll looked into it.
So I'm guessing 1.8 will break this again? *sigh* I really hope you will take the effort to look at this then because this texture pack's "feel" changes greatly for me without custom colors and I'm too used to it that way. I'm not sure how much of a minority I'm in, given I was the only one to mention the changed look of custom colors when 1.7 came, but I, for one, would greatly appreciate it at least. It was one of the (albeit many) things holding me back to 1.6.4 until about now. Would it just be a case of changing the ID numbers to whatever the new identifiers are or whatever?
The enchanted item glint is controlled by the file listed below, this is a twice resolution version with some extra smoothing, if you delete or rename the file and then reload the pack it will use the default resource pack that may be more to your liking, I'm not sure what's changed as this file has been is the JSL pack for over a year.
textures/misc/enchanted_item_glint.png
You can also if you like turn the glint off completely in the file below.
mcpatcher/cit.properties
change the line:-
useGlint=true
to
useGlint=false
This removes the glint from all the items that use it (Potions, Enchanted items etc..), it may not be what you want but it is an option.
Removing it isn't what I'm after; just toning it down to be closer to how it was in 1.6.4.
I changed the brightness of the PNG file you mentioned, and doing this achieved the desired results. I noticed something though. While this got the icons looking about as they did in 1.6.4, the items in first/third person view look much duller. Originally I was going to make it darker yet to get an even more subtle effect for the icons, but this made it almost impossible to tell whether it's enchanted in-game. I settled on making the icons look as they did in 1.6.4 while having the glow more dulled in-game than 1.6.4, but it's still just visible enough.
My guess is that with 1.7, Mojang individually increased the brightness of the glow of icons a lot more than actual items. Again, I've no idea why this seemed like a good idea, but I've got it working as I want now.
Thank you! You've been a major help!
I still have one last question (this is purely for curiosity sake and not something I'm not happy with otherwise). I've always wondered if the color of the glow can be changed from Purple to another color, like, say, a neutral White. If not, it's nothing upsetting, but I always thought it'd look better and would like to try it if it can be done.

I have an issue where the font style in John Smith Legacy is distorted and has a squeezed look to it. I know it is Optifine that makes this happen but I wish to keep Optifine and continue to use this resource pack. Is there a possible way to edit the fonts and or fix this issue? Thanks.
(Just to post this again. If this is some sort of stupid mistake I am making, simply let me know.) Hi. I may be wrong in posting this here (I certainly hope not), and forgive me if it is... but after I activated my customised pack, the diamond and ladder did not have textures. Should I simply choose a different texture for these items?
I had the same problem, what I did was use the diamond.png and diamond.png.mcmeta from the latest John Smith on the official site. If you look at the file, the custom one has 1 diamond, and the working one has multiple diamonds going vertically.. I didn't have issues with using a custom ladder, however, sorry. anyways, I hope the diamond part helps you out.
Now if someone could try and help me out, lol.
I've also recently customized the JS pack, but I've had quite a few issues so far. I've figured out most of the issues on my own, which was pretty much the mcpatcher's CTM overriding the custom textures with my old JS files, rendering the customs I just added useless. I would like to play with the connecting textures, but the link on the forums to get them ( http://files.jslegacy.com/JSTR_CTM.zip ) is down, and I haven't seen anything regarding it on the forums..
If anyone has a copy of the file, would you please post it here? Or does anyone know when it will be back up? I hope the link gets fixed, I'm a big fan of this texture pack, great work to those involved.. Thanks.

Just download John Smith Legacy vanilla pack and then use the CTM from that as the standard pack is more up to date with CTM.

I've check the mcpatcher wiki and I cannot fine any information about changing the colour but it would be a great feature if it was added to mcpatcher.
I do recommend taking a look at the mcpatcher wiki as it can do quite a bit more.
Shame how its either CTM or custom textures only though lol. Ah well, thanks for such a quick reply.
If you are making custom textures then just make some copy's, make some small changes and put them in the CTM directories, so you can have the best of both worlds.

I would do that, but I have no experience with editting textures, but maybe I'll give it a go with GIMP.
When I said custom textures, I meant the on-site pack customizer. I am using the JS:L base with blocks assorted from JSC (you:P) Glowstronium (JSTR) and a few Satallence.
I was only curious about the CTM download because I saw the site had the JSTR CTM/animations pack, which would have solved my problems.
EDIT: also, I have another question. The gold ore file when previewed in the textures is normal, but for some reason the blocks appear with a green hue covering them in-game. Any ideas about that?

I was working on a CTM for the white Japanese Fusuma/shōji style sliding panels but with the texture flipping bug I gave up, now that's been sorted out I'll try to fine some time to get it finished.
In the mean time you can move the files in the alternatives directory.
That is what I figured too, or another option with optifine.. however I've got it all to work now.
I'm going to try (and fail miserably) at adding CTM's for the custom textures when I have time.
Thanks for the help, and the great texture pack.
That's by design for the medieval buildings (white wool for lime washed walls).
Could you provide alternative textures somewhere please, either without CTM for white wool, or With CTM for the rest, I am a bit OCD about uniformity and symmetry
The CTM for the bookshelf looks like it's working fine, could you post some images of what you say is messed up.
Yes
Also beds are messed up (NORTH SOUT HEAST WEST RULE) as well.
NOTE: Pics are in vanilla minecraft with optifine installed via forge with an unmodified John Smith Legacy texturepack zip with no other resouse packs running
It should be noted that its not an error on the textures behalf, its just the person making said textures isn't taking into account an error in Minecraft itself, the NORTH SOUTH EAST WEST rule, examples of how it effects block texutres are here.
The 1st and 2nd pictures show CTM not working for bookshelves (f=1, and f=0)
The 3rd and 4th pictures show CTM working for bookshelves (f=4 and f=3)
The 5thand 6th pictures show borders not working (f=1 and f=0)
The 7th and 8th pictures show the same texturing error with beds (f=1 and f=0)
The 9th and 10th pictures show beds working right (f=4 and f=4)
The 11th and 12th pictures show a texturing oddity with birth wood planks because they have mutiple textures unlike all the other logs (orientation unspecific)
Could you provide alternative textures somewhere please, either without CTM for white wool, or With CTM for the rest, I am a bit OCD about uniformity and symmetry
The wool is as the original author intended but there are some alternative textures that may have the wool you need for your OCD
Also beds are messed up (NORTH SOUT HEAST WEST RULE) as well.
As soon as you mentioned the beds I knew the problem, the default resource pack and every other pack has the same problem because this is a Minecraft issue and has nothing to do with the JSL pack, this keeps popping up every now and again due to modded Minecraft using older releases of the game.

Oh, and I read that red text above. I understand. Is there a way to customize my own font? With your permission of course.

That would work for mcpatcher but some people still use Optifine which currently does not use names (out of date), but it would be a lot of work.

They are under minecraft\textures\blocks\alternates.
Oh right, thanks XD I forgot I deleted the folder.

CTM for bookshelfs is messed up (NORTH SOUTH, EAST WEST Rule) - I couldn't fix it because your missing a texture needed to make the ctm work.
That's all...
This file is used to colour the grass depending on the biome you are in.
