Alright, this is my first go at retexturing, and I think I did a pretty good job! I do not like the way the default armor looks- Its too boxy. The diamond armor is especially ridiculous. So I said to myself, "I need some better looking armor".
Being the adventurous and ambitious lass I am, I decided to make my own rather than find someone else's.
I kept it within the standard resolution because I really like the way minecraft looks at that resolution. "HD" textures sort of break the feel for me. After a long delay of keeping it for myself, I am releasing the textures into the world.
Onward with the screenshots:
Leather
Normally, this looks like a cardboard box. I wanted something with a more finished feel, so I decided on studded leather.
Chainmail
Chainmail is never worn against the skin. This is, strangely, the armor I had the least qualms with.
Gold
Only an idiot makes armor completely out of gold, as gold is like hard putty. A well placed arrow or blade would go right through. So, instead, the armor is trimmed gold with hardened leather main pieces.
Iron
I wanted Iron to feel more protective than the rest, and this, this is the only helm that covers the face. I also made it feel nice and bulky, and I think it looks a lot better than the grey cube.
Diamond
And now we get to the most ludicrous looking armor. not only would armor made completely out of diamond be extremely heavy, it would be impossible to make, as you cannot fuse diamonds together in the way necessary to make a suit of armor- You'd have to find a diamond big enough to fit inside, then hollow it out. So instead, I chose a hardened leather look with diamond chunks woven through it. More realistic, and much better looking.
Some of you astute observers might have noticed I also did matching sword retextures, and if you guys want those, I would be more than happy to put them up.
As for how to get the armor to work for you:
If you are using a texture pack already, simply put these images in the armor folder, overwriting their predecessors:
As a bonus, you can also take this image:
and put it in your misc folder to make all your enchants look better.
If you are NOT already using a texture pack, you will need to make one. Simply go to your .minecraft folder (To get there, open Start, type "run" in the search, and press enter, Then, in run, put %appdata%. The .minecraft folder should be there) and go into the bin folder. Open minecraft.jar with winrar or other unzipping program, and copy the following to a new folder:
FOLDERS:
achievement
armor
art
environment
gui
item
misc
mob
terrain
title
IMAGES
pack.png
particles.png
terrain.png
TEXT
pack.txt
Then put that new folder into the "texturepacks" folder in the .minecraft folder.
Then simply overwrite the images in the armor folder with the images above.
When you open minecraft, go to texturepacks, and select the one you just made. And thats it! Enjoy!
You should change some blocks to fit in with the armour, otherwise I wouldn't even consider this as a texture pack, but a default edit, (which is what I see a lot.). Still, the armour does look good for a 16x16.
