Seeing a pack like this one makes me what to create a pack. I do understand how much time, effort, and artistic ability is required (the latter being the one that puts me off).
Really hope you get lots of inspiration to continue this, many people want to see more amazing stuff get done
Don't worry, I'm still continuing, I'm just in the middle of my exam period at school so I haven't really had the usual amount of time free... I do have some new stuff to show you guys soon though, new bricks, reeds and some other CTM goodness!
Hey man, can you make a version with normal creepers? When I'd be underground, a grass creeper just wouldn't fit. Other than that, absolutely amazing.
Derp, I didn't even think about underground! Mind you though, creepers are bright green anyway and the idea for it being grass is because creepers aren't an animal, I envisioned them as a sort of spirit. Green=grass/forest spirit!
I will make another version too that's a more traditional creeper too though, it shouldn't be too difficult!

Who knows, maybe oneday I'll get around to it!
Lovely progression shown throughout the thread!
Heh, yea, they take a ridiculous amount of spare time... Don't worry about having a lack of artistic talent btw, because that's definitely something you build up over time. If you manage to find the thread for my old pack (Sheep Pack) you will see what I mean. The first couple of pages are filled with my oldest textures and they are pretty cruddy!
Definitely satisfying to see how far I've progressed since I began. It's a lovely feeling.

If you're using CTM, then I'm going to assume you have MCPatcher and Randomobs available, no? If so, you can use a special funtion of Randomobs to make all creepers that spawn below sea level, ie: underground, have one texture, and the ones that spawn above, a different texture. Then you could have two different species, cave and grass creepers.

Hmmm, I never knew you could determine spawns by height level as well! I thought that was only for biomes...
Oh well, thanks for mentioning that, I'm going to look into it now! (also, I got your PM and replied)
BTW, for anyone wondering what I have been up to, I've been making my textures work together a bit better, colour wise and style wise so they should look better in builds together. Here are some screenies:
New reeds with vertical CTM so the top of them isn't flat anymore, no matter the height. Also a different colour to help them contrast but also blend in better with rest of texture pack.
New pine logs. Yea, the others were nice but far too simple - especially compared to the new oak log I made... These ones look more rough but still use the same colours.
New chests and enderchest. The old enderchest was just bad, the old chests had that bright metal lining that stood out like a sore thumb. I also changed it on the iron bars and potion brewing stand too, now they use the same type of metal as on the monster spawner. Looks pretty cool IMO!
New bricks with a fair amount of random CTM variations, new brewing stand and iron bars, and I tweaked the textures for carrots and stuff too. Also, I changed the pillar vertical CTM from stone halfslabs to the decorative stone brick texture. It's hard to obtain in survival but I doubt many survival players are using the pillars ( I know I wasn't) and I really like the look of stacked slabs anyway.
This is the tweaked oak wood, I made it just after last update but yea, I think it makes it more unique and it looks a bit nicer too.
The normal chests are a bit too simple in my opinion, just wood and nothing else, and very low contrast.
They do look a lot better in-game, they were sort of based on my workbench if you want an idea of what the wood type and contrast are actually like in-game.
Here's another pic showing the metal bits on the lid:
Yeah, that looks better, and it does fit in very well with the rest. Nice!
Thanks! I think I'll be using dunnra's idea and making black leather straps for it instead now, that should give it more contrast and make it a little more interesting.
Looks great, XSSheep. Not too sure about the purple tone of the bands on the chest though. Think it'd look better with black or brown leather.
The new Oak Wood is stunning btw.
Thank you! I actually made the oak wood 10 minutes after I posted the last update, I really should have held back until I was sure of my wood...
I will try out the black leather strap idea too, that might give it more contrast and everything, it sounds like a really good idea! (the purplish bits are supposed to be a bronze/copper metal btw, it's more obvious on the iron bars, brewing stand and monster spawner though)
and what's ... mean (if you go check those texture packs out you're know what i mean)
You're just so wrong in every possible way, for that reason Sheep does not have to respond.
Firstly if you make an accusation of stolen work provide examples of the textures that are specifically stolen and the respective packs that work is stolen from.
Sheep is a legitimate texture artist on this forum and all of his art is original.
Don't make accusations unless you can back them up properly.

This. I've been making textures for a year and a half now, I think someone would have taken action if I was stealing textures...
I've always really liked texture packs that support CTM and other "extra" things, it makes minecraft look all that much more awesome.
Please keep up the great work
Also, I remember that for your skybox there was a time where the pack had a smoother, less pixellated version, that you were testing out since I had made a comment about it. Is there any chance you still have that file hanging around somewhere? I recently had to get a new computer and could only recover my most essential files so I lost the Better Skies files I had in my custom texture pack and I liked the smoother clouds better than the current ones now.
Or am I going crazy and the current skybox is the smoother version?

Yea, if you check the OP, I have all the older versions of the pack there, the first or second versions still have that old, smooth skybox there if you want it. It would be a simple matter of copy, paste and overwriting!
Also, yes, since the last version, I increased the res of the skybox file so it looks about 30% less pixelated from the version before. It's a good balance now, I think! (good eye for noticing that too, not many people - if any - noticed it.
I like the jungle tree trunk but not so much the glowstone. The texture itself reminds me of golden cobblestone. I feel like it should look a bit more organic, if that's a good term to describe it. Although, admittedly, as it is, the glowstone would probably look pretty good in builds.

Just my two cents.
Yea, it does look really good in builds but I also definitely see what you mean with the cobble resemblance, that's sorta what it was based off because I couldn't think of any good shapes or ideas for it...
I have an idea for it now that should be quick enough to test, I'll post a pic of my findings soon after I make any!
