Personally, I think it's best to have a variety of plank types. Have a few with the vertical lines, have a few without. Seriously, go crazy. In my own project I have diagonal planks, which work surprisingly well in 16x. Except on edges.
You can have every plank a different style, or you can have a few used multiple times. Variety is never a bad thing. Personally, I think Oak is better without, but I fully support it on birch, jungle, and maybe even acacia planks.
If you're only going with one or the other, I say go without, but otherwise do both.
Alright cool, thanks guys. I'll leave oak without the strips, I quite like how clean it looks. Spruce and Dark oak will remain with the strips and I dunno yet about the rest.
This has been a decent week. Actually ran out of space for the banner image to include it all. Mostly I've been polishing existing textures.
Oak and birch planks have changed... again. Stonebricks got some much needed definition although I didnt get a chance todo the cracked varient. Bricks have finally been replaced, not sure what the old one was even doing in the pack, bleh. This is much better. Also had another shot a doing the sheep. The sheared version still needs some work but I believe the face looks better on this one. Also done my first shot at some of the GUI, the Inventory hotbar thing that's always at the bottom of the screen is in.
Side note: I'm probably going to redo jungle planks again, keeping the mossy but making them look more worn an aged.
Also a shout out to the massive amount of french traffic I've been getting the last few days. Enjoy.

I would add horizontal CTM to make planks have vertical stripes, but just the leftmost and the rightmost blocks. I think it's the best choice (and I'm gonna add that to my pack, actually).

As always, this pack is simply awesome
Thank you. And yea actually, that's a good idea. I don't believe I'll play around with CTM for quite a while though.
I am going to have to try this one out. Looks good.

"It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for the winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns. And also he got a racecar. Is any of this getting through to you?"
just watched iJevin's video and this texture pack looks so nice all flushed out like that in all the epic builds on the Hermitcraft server... i've been playing with this texture pack since week 10 and it's my main one and i fill in the rest with Lithos:Core, Dokucraft, John Smith, Sphax, and Soartex (in my modded game). i just love everything you've made so far (the new sheep is much cuter than the previous version). i can't wait to see what you make next! thank you for making such beautiful textures!
Can we possibly get some screen shots of the pack's addons?
I probably should put a least one image up for that shouldn't I. I think I might remove the flatpack one. It was just a little test, which I've decided I'm not going to pursue.

Hey daysie. I'm so glad you commented. I actually came across your videos last week which is what prompted me to change the sheep. I've been really struggling with it and I'm still hearing comments that the face looks a bit odd still. I think I remember you saying in your video that there was a sheep texture from a particular texture pack that you liked. I can't remember what it was though. Any chance you could remind me, I wouldn't mind looking at how other texture pack artists do their sheeps.
I also tried improving that grass issue. But I wonder if it's a issue with Biomes o Plenty as the side grass should be matching the top grass colour automatically which at least for me it does with minimal mods active. I haven't actually tested with Biomes o Plenty so I'll see if I can't do that some time soon.
EDIT: Actually I think I just found the problem. Looks like when you play in 'Fast' graphics mode instead of 'Fancy' this effect occurs. I'll see if there's a fix for it.
Also thanks for mentioning iJevin's video both you and ReneePuff. I don't think I would have come across without that. I find lets plays are a fantastic way to hear critic. It gives me a better understanding of both the context in which they make their opinion and also a deeper insight into their thought process.
So I had no idea that 1.8 rendered fast leaves differently to 1.7 until I watched IJevin's video and noticed the trees looked like vomit. I'm sorry for those who have been playing in fast graphics mode. They'll be fixed as of this weeks update.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think opaque(fast graphic) leaves are not changeable anymore, because 1.8 files don't have them. It's really annoying change, at least when most of players/ let's players uses fast graphics.
I've worked out how to change them. I don't quite understand it but it uses the fancy leaves texture and fills in the transparent bit somehow. However If you put you're opaque texture in the background of the fancy leaves texture and set it's opacity to 1% then it become visible as the fast graphics leaves whilst remaining invisible for the fancy leaves texture. The above screenshots is the before and after of doing just that.

Anyway congrats on your hundredth video.
WOW! you actually watched my video! i'm honored! i had a sneaky suspicion because then there was an update to the sheep and i was like, "yay! new sheep!" and i really like the new sheep! i know that in real life, sheep are much darker (greyer) but i prefer them to look cute! as for sheep texture i was referencing, it was either Soartex Fanver for the smooth look and Silver Mines for the more cute, cartoony look. both are in 64x, but i'm playing in 32x nowadays because i'm getting so many "holes in the world" when i play... and i'm on an iMac, btw (late 2013, with 32GB ram)... and i play on Fast Graphics mode to cut down on my frame rate/rendering/stuttering issues when i play and record at the same time... most likely due to all the stuff that has to render due to my huge gardens! (i also had to disable Better Foliage to help with the rendering issues, too.)
i hope you didn't take into offense that i called your original sheep "dirty" they were just a bit too dark for my taste. i am a big fan of what you've made so far! i haven't checked out everything yet because i haven't gone caving in such a long time, but i love using resource packs in my game (and since i'm playing with a ton of mods, i have to use a lot of resource packs to make everything look good together, and the ones i mentioned earlier are the ones who provide tons of modded textures)... they make such a HUGE difference to me and make my playing experience so much better! i will make sure to provide feedback with each update that you release! i can't wait for the next one!

Curse PremiumHaving a little conundrum. What kind of planks to people think is best? Ones with those vertical strips on the sides or ones without?

Curse PremiumI agree 100% with sera, do some with and some without but if you have to decide, no vertical strips looks best imo.

Nice update as always. This has now become my go to pack. It has a cartoony feel but retains the realism which is why I like it.
Aw, Wow. Beautiful. Just the pack I've been waiting for.
I saw this on IJevins youtube last vanilla video and fell in love.
I love the water, the bookcases, just so many things I'm just in love with!!
Gonna try this out when I get in Minecraft. Cant wait to see what updates are coming. Nice work!!
Can we possibly get some screen shots of the pack's addons?

Curse PremiumAny chance that the acacia logs get textured soon? They look odd with the others being textured nicely.
