Important Point of Interest: Higher compression means more CPU usage when decompressing textures and thus more fps lag. It's the reason Sphax doesn't run as smooth as FaeriLight. I would recommend minimal compression to reduce strain on your 'average' PC. Albeit that does increase RAM usage, it's still quite trivial at 512MB max thus far when heavily modded. Had I known there was any compression other than .zip involved, I'ld have known why there was an fps difference in my previous post.
So Sphax is compressed? How can I pre-decompress so it runs better (until Tekkit support for Faerielight is released?)
Without dedicated software, no. Decompression into RAW and then saving the RAW is nigh on impossible without dedicated software and I wouldn't even know where to begin looking. If you know how to compile a texture pack manually then you could probably screenshot the .png files open in MS Paint and then import those screenshots to Adobe and add the transparencies, line everything up, reframe as needed, and then save that as a RAW .png without compression. Convoluted as that process is, it should work. Maybe Develsaa would have a simpler alternative? She's the photoshop guru between us. My experience begins and ends with ClarisWorks back on Mac OS 9.x which I miss greatly.
removing all the extra alpha data, layer data, etc that gets stored and not used will make it run better... and that's what the compression software I use does. (among a few other things) It doesn't really compress them as much as trim the fat. (and easier than your convoluted method. lol)

Oh I figured there was an easier way. It's what I get for being cheap and not getting or taking the time to learn recent art programs. Regardless, if two full-conversion x128 packs have significantly different volumes, and the larger one runs smoother, then be introduced to the topic of different levels of pre-compression prior to .zip compression, leads me to believe that the higher degree of compression would result in slower decompression by the CPU for use in the game itself, and thus lower the FPS. I've never been a fan of compression in any form of media anyway, simply because it does take longer to decompress the higher the compression ratio. That can effectively ruin the FPS of any game, or the quality of sound. I can't stand .mp3 files at less than 192kbps anymore, but that's drifting off topic.
I've worked through several others for various themed maps, but up until recently I used LB for my regular playtime. Then someone mentioned this one with a link and I came and downloaded to try it. I haven't used LB since.
I absolutely love the realism of the textures, mixed with a sense of magic and fantasy. It really makes the moment for me. I especially like the camo creepers. And the new-new creepers? Even better.
@Shade - That is so kind of you to say, thank you so much!! I am kind of blown away by how many people enjoy it - Thank you for taking the time to let me know your thoughts, really it is very much appreciated
Just FYI also now that I've added and played more of the new update.
in 128x I noticed that the Endermen's heads are now completely white instead of scary teeth. (though white emptiness is rather scary in and of itself...)
And when I moved on to 256x most of the textures turn into white squares.
I do have Optifine, ModLoader, TimberMod and RecipeBook on my Minecraft, which hasn't been a problem before. Could it be because I'm not running on the snapshot?
For your first issue - There are two versions of Endermen now, one was requested by someone and it's thrown in there, if you would like just one the darker one with teeth, go into the texture pack and go to mobs > delete enderman2.png. Sorry to throw that at you!
For your second issue - I don't think so, as I have rolled back and am not using the snapshot either anymore, but I just have optifine installed, Have you tried a run through of reinstalling the mods with a clean jar?
Occasionally I have to reload my texture pack as my CTM textures do that to me, too and that's a bug that's been going around. So if it's just the grasses/flowers/etc then I'd just reload the texture pack, However if it's all of the textures and not say just the grasses and flowers, then yeah I'd suggest doing a clean install.
HAHA! No ,.. no you don't My kids just went back to school, and I have no work coming in at the moment, which means almost all of my spare time is spent doing minecraft, and I have spades of time. I am aiming to update once a week. GW2 was released yesterday so I may spend the weekend taking a break.
@epiclizard99 - Thank you! I should probably redo it at some point, but it took me a while to space it all out, and I just have not found the time to redo it yet.

It looks like it was just a hiccup. When I exited out of Minecraft and re-entered, the textures returned. (well all but the grass) so I'm thinking if I just go back and forth it'll clarify.
So far as the Endermen thing, no problem. I don't mind that at all if it's intended. I just thought it might be a bug.
