Hello! This is my very first texture pack (that has not been cancelled) and I hope you like it. It started out as a personal texture pack, but then I realized that maybe other people would like to use it, too. Here's an example of what I'm changing, to give you an idea of what this texture pack does:
The mossy cobblestone has been updated to reflect the style of cobblestone introduced in Beta 1.7.
Ores have been overhauled, they are embedded inside the ore (pseudo-3D) and redstone ore has been edited to look like lapiz lazuli ore.
Doors have glass windows!
Glass has been completely remade. No more annoying streaks in the middle!
Side-grass is longer.
Diamond blocks are edited to look like emerald blocks. They're both gems, right?
Trees have gradient shading!
Netherbrick looks like stone brick now!
Clay has been recolored to red.
And a whole lot more changes and tweaks to default textures. Not to mention, there will be many more to come!
This kind of pack is overdone and lazy. Not to mention, every edit you made was with extremely flat colors, which, not only does not fit in with default, but is ugly, and only serves to further the previous statement about laziness.

Thanks for providing constructive criticism. I tried my best not to use "extremely flat colors". I put my best effort into making the textures decent, and that includes not using lazy bucket-fill textures and actually putting some time to make sure the texture tiles well. (Case in point; I redid the mossy cobble texture 5 times until it looked good.) If your "extremely flat colors" statement refers to the mossy cobblestone, then that's what it's supposed to look like. Moss isn't shiny or dark or anything. It's moss, so that's what I made it look like.
At the very least it's not a bright-colored "simple pack", which if it were, I'd be getting thousands of hate comments.
If you don't like this kind of texture pack, you absolutely are not forced to use it. Once again, thanks for the advice and have a good day.
I like what you are doing with it. you are making changes suited to your personal taste, that are done quite well. and without actually playing with the pack, there is no way to tell how the colors actually work with each other in game.
-snip- I was outta line. disregard the drama below. my bad... sorry op.
Your comment about moss further(further) proves my statement about laziness, as you would rather argue an invalid point than fix an obvious fault. The fact that you even made it as you did is enough to pass you on as someone with no skill, and given the path you are currently on, you won't be.

I mean... really... some people need to learn to just stfu and not comment on every single pack they don't like.
Grugsy, I can't help but notice that you don't like me. Perhaps a year of texturing and frequenting this section has made me blunt, but, keep in mind, it was the posters here that caused such a transformation. I am not inherently asshole-ish, but if someone would rather make something like this, and call it a texture pack, well, I can't just let that slide, now can I? It's quite the insult, whether purposeful or not.

Actually, I do like you...lol I find you quite amusing most of the time... mainly because I'm an asshole and a have a skewed sense of humor.. and anything else I have said up until this thread has been in good fun. And being someone who has been at this for 2+ years, and long tired of mindless drivel being posted, still think you go too far sometimes. it's almost like you think you have an obligation to do quality control based on your own personal standards, which are not shared by everyone that you tend to speak for. Try being less rude and actually try to help people do better, instead of being so confrontational and just bashing everyone.
edit: and besides... I earned the resident asshole title fair and square a long time ago.. you are totally stealing my thunder! lol

I do help people, but plenty of people that come in posting crap and slightly better crap have a,"Nuhuh, I made it, it's perfectly perfectually perfect!"
I don't help people that don't want to be helped, because they won't take any of it seriously anyways.
I am inclined to take this all more serious than others, though, as I actually started texturing when I decided I wanted to be a graphic designer.
The least I could ask out of default edits is that they change the colors to be more beautimus.
Hey again! DifferentDefault is now at version 1.1. The changes are relatively minor, so there will be no screenshots.
Tripwire hook has better shading.
Tripwire strings are more visible (in part to aid the visually impaired.) I will make an alternative version of the pack without this change if it reveals traps too much.
Mob spawner cages have gold trimming.
Mossy cobblestone and glass has been modified to add more detail, based on Seradicus's suggestions.
The download link in OP has been updated. Have fun!

I don't feel like putting anything witty here, sorry.

Why don't you just post some pictures on the actual forum and not just a link to them offsite, that would be much better
This is good. I like how you've change the textures to suit your preferences, but haven't done ugly, random things like making Redstone ore green or anything. This is a step towards making a texture pack of the same nature as DefStyle.
Wow, people can be a bit crude with their critism.
Anyways
Let's point out the BAD editing in this pack:
1. The Rounded logs isn't rounded properly, in fact, it had a lazy 4x4 square brush at the sides.
The UNNOTICEABLE Edits:
1. The cobblestone and /w moss, i don't feel the edit. I get the gist that it's reversed or something, or is it just me?
2. The Crafting Table, the table itself only had a light brown tone. Yes, leathery. But is not so eye catching and noticeable.
The GOOD edits:
1. Pumpkins, they look more natural. You're gonna see pumpkins around with faces, already grown? Cool story Minecraft.
2. The Jukebox, which makes sense that you use disks.
3. Embossed ores!, sincerely original for x16 defaults.
4. Leathery Minecarts, very noticeable. It looks good, you wouldn't wanna sit on rusty iron right? The only flaw is..you make the cart out of pure steel.
5. Bedrock, they look more harder and darker. Looks VERY good with a 4x4 cube.

The MUST BE Edits:
1. Glass, make it connected.
That is all
Thanks for the feedback!
Let me answer a few things:
I didn't edit the cobblestone. Only the mossy cobblestone has been edited.
I'll work on making the logs more rounded.
I have been thinking of making a customizer for this texture pack, so you can choose between default texture, tweaked texture, and maybe even some alt textures. It would give more choices to people, for things such as the workbench color.
I'm going to make the glass compatible with the "Connected Textures Mod" included with OptiFine. It's not that high on my priority list at the moment, but rest assured I will do it.

I don't feel like putting anything witty here, sorry.
I finished making the glass compatible with the Connected Textures Mod! If you have this mod, or enable "Connected Textures" in OptiFine's settings (go to Options, Video Settings, Quality,) the texture of glass will become dynamic, and adapt to any kind of block shape! No longer will you have to suffer from glass border lines obscuring your view!
This feature will be included in DifferentDefault version 1.3, which is being worked on as I speak and will be ready for release around tomorrow night. For those of you in the Central time zone of the U.S, the new version of the pack will be ready for download no later than 9:00 PM.
Bad edits:
Mossy cobblestone. Too flat, and does not mach up with Mossy Stone Brick. Sticks out from default textures.
Nether Brick. Recoloring a default texture is just lazy and does not match up with default textures, where each texture is it's own.
Uncarved Pumpkins. It's something thrown around a lot, though having faceless pumpkins is no longer a valid option, due to Snow Golems.
Bedrock. It has grid errors. There is a vertical dark spot and a horizontal light spot. It creates an easily noticeable pattern.
Minecarts. The leather is two colors, and very flat.
Jukebox. The vinyl is 1 color with an outline.
Glass. Single color borders are the worst thing you could ever do for a texture.
Unnoticeable edits:
Workbench. I see absolutely no change in it.
Rounded logs. It's a 4 pixel difference.
Ores. The depth is a welcome change, but is only slightly darkening and lightening the area around the ores. Why not make each ore a unique layout?
After being flat out told not to post my opinion on a topic, and seeing that thread purged of every negative response, I no longer care what people post. Good luck with this, I suppose.
Mossy cobblestone texture is completely overhauled. It's definitely a lot better!
Brick contrast has been increased slightly.
The pack is now compatible with the Connected Textures Mod.
A couple items (Golden Apple, Blaze Rod, etc.) now have a nice glowing effect on them.
Sugar cane is brown. It's icon has been recolored to reflect this.
I forgot to do the tree shading effect for jungle logs. It's fixed now.
Diamond block contrast has been increased.
Added a little message in terrain.png.
The "dead shrub" has yellow leaves hanging from it.
The minecart icon has been updated with leather seating.
The Jack-O-Lantern has an eerie glow emanating from it's face. ooOOOoo!
Many other very subtle tweaks to my existing textures.
Good news: a customizer for this texture pack is planned! However, the Minecraft Customizer website hasn't been updated for 1.3 yet, so I will have to wait until 1.3 is officially released on August 1st to make this customizer public.
Screenshots of most texture changes are avaliable here: (NOTE: THIS IS OUTDATED)

- Redstone ore is lapiz-lazuli style!
- Side grass is longer.
- Mob spawner is BLUE!!!!111one
- Diamond block is now a recolor of the emerald gem block. They're both gems, so it makes sense.
- Tweaked the glass texture again. I toned down the noise and added little... reflection thingies in the corner. I was inspired by the Painterly Pack.
- Wooden and iron doors have glass windows now. I've changed the icons to reflect this.
- Torches have little stone things hanging from the edges now. As an unintended side effect, the on-state redstone torch looks like a red LED now. Cool!
- Tree logs have... cylindrical shading? I dunno.
- Clay now has a reddish tint. The clay ball icon has been changed to reflect this.
Download link in OP has been updated.I plan to make a "Texture Pack Test World" screenshot once more textures are done. It's getting there. I'll probably do it now, in fact!
That's just an excuse. You don't need that. You have some pictures ready, all you need to do is post them here in IMG tags.
...But that's just my opinion.
My DeviantART, requests welcome.
