Hey I am going to make a puzzle map and was wondering if I could use your texture pack for it.
(I am asking because I will need to change some textures to fit in with the theme of the puzzle map)
I will of course give you full credit on the creation of the texture pack and provide a link to this post.
Seeing the amount of people still interested in this, I kind of feel like starting up on it again. I'm pretty burnt out on the mobs though, so I'd have to find something new to start working on. No promises though.
Distant Anomaly is a total conversion of the Minecraft survival experience into a scifi characters, locations and items set in a detailed scifi universe.

so yea, creator, if you are reading this sorry I not working on more maps but if you are leaving there is not much I can do. I am going to release a AVP map (using a mod), in about a month or two, so you guys, that are probably into sci fi, why dont try it out!!
Hello again! A lot has happened in my life since I left this texture pack, but long story short I'm thinking about coming back to this now that I have the time to do it. I've done a lot of artwork since then that I think I can apply to making these textures even better. Minecraft also added resource packs while I was gone, which will certainly make this project more worthwhile. However I won't be doing a straight continuation of this, but rather re-imagining it and re-using the textures that still work.
So I'll start clean-slate and recycle the textures and ideas that still make since. Sort of a spiritual successor to the pack. I think this is the best way to go after all this time. HOWEVER, I need help from the community to make this happen. I'd like to thank you all for your continued interest in this project. You have inspired me to continue working on this.
There are a couple of considerations I'd like you all to make.
1- Lore. It started out as a cool idea but eventually it sort of bogged down both progress and just general use-ability of the pack. When you start writing lore for every item/mob/block then it sort of takes the creative work from the map makers and such. So should I continue the lore and have most map-makers use that so they all fit together, or just leave it up to them?
(Ex: If I left the lore up to them, I would have the texture and maybe the name of say, the creeper, but the biology, history and such would be left up to the creators and could vary map to map. Just like how vanilla Minecraft blocks have no story or such, and so many varied adventure maps can be made)
I'm kind of leaning on the side of the scrapping the lore.
2- New name! I kind of need ideas for this so I can start the new thread. I'm not sure if I want to keep this name or not. If I end up ditching the lore we'll need a different name probably.
3- Block and Item ideas! We'll get into the details later, but once I get the new thread up and running I'll once again need your consideration for what to texture the blocks into. Some things like Commonite can stay.
4- Sounds! This isn't a huge deal right now, but once we get up and running with the new resource packs I'd like to find some talented sound designers who can contribute to the pack. I've decided that I won't be using adf.ly links anymore, so I'm not making any money off of anyone else's work. It's also will be so much easier to distribute, because map-makers can make custom versions of the pack with voiceovers!
1. Well, as for lore, I'd like to see some of it stick around, but have it very light. I mean, some of the lore is what really got me into this pack. The Marine Pigmen looked awesome, as did the Vannix.
2. I'll admit. I'm really bad at names. I did like "Distant Anomaly", it was a good name for a pack like this. (The other sci-fi pack around here has an odd name, imo. "2215" or something?) But your art style is definitely what sold the pack, it had a very "classic" feel to it, like old-school space-themed elements. Not really sure what might possibly elude to that in terms of a name.
3. Personally, the two bocks I definitely want to see stick around are the Commonite, and the Green Netherbrick stuff. Coolest blocks in the pack.
4. That does sound awesome... but I can't really help with it I'm afraid... <.> Also, remember, the Resource Packs can include language packs and (I think) coding; so you could actually have various factions at war.

I like the idea of having minimal lore, sort of a guideline. I'm thinking about dropping the whole Humans vs. Vannix angle, though because it didn't really work in gameplay. I might turn zombie pigmen into a neutral alien species, or recolor them to be a more Peacekeeper type force than military. I'd like the planet to be a frontier world that all alien races rushed to.
Commonite is staying (maybe with slight adjustments), and the green netherbrick may or may not stay depending on what I decide to do with that mob.
I need to have like a definite style for this pack, its clear with the metal blocks but then you get to the organic stuff and its all over the place. I'm looking into color palettes and such to make this better.
I personally think you should keep the lore, but get help from the community on it. As for the name, I have no ideas. Distant Anomaly always seemed fitting for this pack to me. I am really looking forward to this pack being updated! I will try to help out with ideas when needed, but I think you pretty much have the creative aspect of the pack down.
I will try to draw attention to your pack to expand the community and grow support for this.
Revisited the metal trees idea, and they pretty much have to stay. It would be way too much of a pain to have to collect iron or gold blocks to build your houses from. So now the question is, what kind of a tool do you use to cut down the trees? Axes never made sense. Now that I think of it, picks may not make too much sense for the metal stuff either.

I know I haven't said anything in a few days, but thats because I was struggling to figure out what direction I was going to take this texture pack. First of all, I've decided to remove the Vannix and Void-wanderer blocks. Having the aliens use their own architecture meant that they only had 2 blocks each to build a base with. Those blocks also had a color scheme that made it wierd to be used with normal blocks.
So, if I make it to where Vannix and Void-wanderers use similar architecture to the rest of the galaxy, I now have Stone Bricks, Lapiz and a ton of other blocks free. I'm especially excited for Stone Bricks, since they are easier to obtain in survival.
Also, I wanted to make wool into some sort of paint so that you could have stripes and such along your grey metal bases. Then I looked at all the stuff they added, and saw that they added Hardened Bricks, which can be colored. So hardened bricks can be a painted metal so you can make your bases with more of a color scheme. I can also keep the wool for carpets.
(EDIT: I'll also be changing Iron and Gold plus the white/brown blocks that go with it. All of these changes are keeping in line with making a more unified theme for the pack.)

I used this texture pack because it was the sci-fi pack that best fit what I was looking for.

Martian*
I was using it for 1.5, but the Zombies and Zombie Pigmen have broken textures.
Anyone think they can resource-ify the pack, and maybe fix those two mobs?
