Perhaps their proper name is nearly in-pronouncable, so they simply go by various nicknames?
I can't really imagine a race calling themselves the "Creepers."
If I may make a suggestiontion, assuming you've droped the insectiod angle; perhaps try to make them plantlike? It is my understanding that, lorewise, Creepers are mobile plants that naturally produce Gunpower, and explode in order to spread their seeds/spores. Most texture packs seem to make them reptillian or something, and I think it would be interesting to see a 'proper' 32x creeper.
Yeah that was never my intention. It's a combination of them being mysterious (so we don't know there name, and the fact that humans don't really communicate since they blow up in there face. Creeper is just a human nickname.
Well for one I'm not sure just how much of the insectoid angle I dropped. They probably won't look buglike, but they still live in hives. Although this plant idea sounds cool, I will try messing around and see if I can get it to work.
Wow haven't been here in awhile ever sinced you mentioned you were stopping for Halo 4 and my my you have been busy....
Just got the latest edition of it and this looks amazing the immersion is even better than before, and if i never told you this, you are now my favourite artist simply because i can feel the amount of thought and work that makes this pack the very best!
Lore-wise:
I have a few suggestions to the pack,
First, the portal-lore should about it being an experimental and unstable portal tech thats why it never appears in the same place? and the obsidian can represent a form of stability ring to mantain and restrain its shape? it being experimental will also explain why the portals are so small.... as for nether fortresses, the lore about it should be that they were frontier outposts of sorts and they were attacked by vannix but only barely managed to repel them. This would explain why the fortresses are half destroyed and bare. They were also reduced to farming for food namely nether wart as well as why the security bots, blazes, are attacking you is that their central network was destroyed therefore they are unable to register new human entities. The void wanders should be related to the vannix through a mutual truce? hence why they dont openly attack each other?
I like the idea of nether portals being unstable. It fits in with what I had though of them so far, which is that they are attempted reverse-engineering of maker technology by humans (or freelancers like the players).
The trees could just look biological but remember commonite makes up that planets crust therefore it would be safe to assume that they have high mineral content therefore when we make sticks, we are simply striping out the high mineral concentration areas out of the log?
could i also suggest changing the bow to something like a flechette thrower? hence the reclaimable arrows because to collect plasma orbs, plasma being ionised gas, would mean that your hands are resistant to very high temperature but you are human?
the lore for flowers would be something like this:
The plants on this planet are weak and malleable compared to their tree counterparts as they are easily crushed by bare hands. they also show a high level of pigments that are most likely derived from the minerals in the soil.
I'm not sure I want the logs to be natural. I was thinking that the log portion of the tree is completely synthetic (with an unknown purpose). The "leaves" look like earth leaves but were evolved to grow on top of the logs (to recieve more light) or something like that. The leaves I wanted to be natural, but the logs synthetic, however I get that to work.
I definetely want to change the bow at some point. The one I had was cool, and a nice placeholder, but I think I have evolved both my texturing ability and coming up with ideas much since then. As for what it ends up as, we'll see. Flechette launcher sounds cool though.
Well yeah, but thats a basic description and pretty much the same as minecraft. Stuff like flowers that aren't changed much or pretty much self explanatory don't really need a codex page, IMO.
Btw i would love to help out with the codex lore because i love science! i major in physics and chemistry so i have a fair understanding of the world.
If by help out, you can continue to offer suggestions and things like this (AtikLYar has been doing this for a while). Although we might disagree on some things I definitely think over whatever you post.
I kind of had my own idea for the portals, if you want to hear it;
As you may or may not know, there are molecules throughout the universe theorized to move faster than light. Altering one will instantly effect all of them throughout the universe.
I had the idea that both the Indistructium or w/e and the Maker structures are made with very high concentrations of these molecules. (To explain how the wormholes pull people to the planet and such)
In terms of the human portals, it is impossible to travel 'short' distances with them, due to the sheer speed anyone using them will move at. However, it is possible to roughly predict the travel distance and connect portals between the planet and moon, allowing humans to travel back and forth quickly.
In my own map, the first portal is in a maker structure. When powered, it launches the player to the moon at a Vannix base where they are preparing for the assault on the human base. The next portal is a human portal that was 'knocked out of alignment' when the room it was in was destroyed and fell into the lava ocean below. Going into the portal then sends the player into the Creeper Hive. (For gameplay reasons there is a safe room with a checkpoint. But storyline-wise, they just fall right in the Hive.)
You see I'm not sure the portal really needs that much description. Everything doesn't need to be completely scientifically explained like that, since really a lot of it is Maker technology, and so advanced we wouldn't know anyway. I think unstable, reverse-engineered Maker tech will suffice.
XP could be data/pieces recovered from slain enemies. (Helmet cams for Zombies, pieces of machinery from spiders, suit parts from Vannix and Wanderers, ect.) Using an Enchanting table and these spoils of war, the table can piece them all together and apply some sort of random property from it all into a piece of armor/tool. Or it can be stored into a datapad for later use, but such information fills the Datapad and it can no longer be written in.
Also; the Adventure Map is officially ready for full playtesting. All the areas and books are set and ready, if anyone wants to volunteer.

My idea is that the 3rd and 4th plane of dimension would have certain "low pressure" zones where particles refuse to interact with one another. This led to the creation of the portal frame, which allowed near instantaneous travel by passing through a corridor where laws of science do not apply. Due to the lack of particle interaction, time has somewhat stopped as the lack of particle interaction would defy atomic clocks.

Sorry for the double post.
I believe xp should be pure data, simply because an enchanting setup looks kind of like a research area? and that enchanted books could be upgrade schematics of some sort?
Rapid, if you wish the trees to be synthetic, how about changing the whole idea to that we are on a fabricated planet made by the makers? it would make more sense to me and the leaves would, in my opinion, look better as shards of metal in stylized way? That would allow us to retexture some of the mobs to be a form of robo-guardian? eg. creeper being a robot filled with ba form of liquid explosive in two seperate tanks which are mixed to form an explosion when the photo-receptors (eyes) and proximity detecters recive synced readings indicating that the is an "alien parasite" in the vicinity? We being foreign to them of course.
I planned on an update yesterday for all of the wool...but its proving to be extremely challenging. Since I don't use colors for my wool and I use actual components, I came up with the idea that the Makers who build this planet had a machine (white wool) that could transfer matter into a new object with schematics (dyes). But because dyes and be combined and also used for other things (black ink for book and quill, cocoa beans for cookies) it became infinitely more complicated. Does anyone have a simpler approach or any suggestions?
The easiest suggestion would be to have the wool to be a highly reactive solid that actively bonds with all pigment reagents, there fore the wool is actually becoming a new isotope of the original substance?
Realized how long my posts were XD just love this pack.
After looking at my game, i realized that vents/struts my not be the best idea for trees, simply because of saplings kind of ruin that feel of artificial constructs. Another thing, is for the new daytime sensors, should be solar panels a definite thing!
For the pigmen, could we retexture gold swords as a form of military blade or perhaps stun baton? The logic being that their base (nether fort) is pretty smashed up therefore the orders were to conserve ammo and the wither skellies that spawn in the base could be a form of spec ops vannix hence the black stealth suits ?
Well, for the leaves I had thought to just keep them leaves. Yeah, it might not make the most sense, but I think it would look the best, and it would still make the planet feel semi-natural.
The mod thing is something I had thought about. Maybe once (if) this gets popular someone could do a simple mod like that that fixes minor inconsistencies like pigmen and having to use axes on the metal wood. The rest of your ideas are things perfectly in line with what I would like to do.
Perhaps then, what I should be doing, is telling you what I actually need ideas for. One inconsistency is that I made books into datapads and I kept sugar as a alien sugar equivalent, forgetting that datapads come from paper, which stems from sugar canes. Since paper is also used for paintings (i think), I had thought to make the sugar canes also contain a liquid used to work the lcds for the holograms. But then also, leather is now needed for books...and leather armor is actually leather. Lots of stuff thats going to be hard to fit together.
Also, a few of the alchemy ingredients are causing me trouble. Blaze powder seemed simple enough, I could make it some form of flammable fluid or incineration fuel. However, it is also used to create magma cream, which has the opposite effect of causing fire resistance. Now maybe in magic that makes sense, but in science I'm confused how I could make a flammable ingredient combine with something to make a flame retardant material. Which brings me to slimeballs, which I'm still not sure what to do with. I wanted to make the sticky pistons gravity-pistons, or sticky plasma pistons or something like that, but then I wouldn't be sure what to do with slimes or how to make that combine with blaze powder to make magma cream.
So there you go. Completely understandable if you can't think of anything, its a lot for even me to wrap my brain around on a daily basis, and its proving even more difficult to piece together in a plausible manner.
The blaze powder can remain as a form of flame fuel because the blaze sentries use it to attack intruders. Slimeballs could be a sticky resin-based material that will have an opposite effect with whatever it is mixed with, eg flame fuel into flame retardant?
Sugar canes naturally on earth contain liquids so i think that it would make some sence for LCDs but perhaps the alien sugar extract is a high energy solid to balance the fact that it naturally has a sythetic fluid within?

Hmmm....this seems like the logical choice, and probably what I'll go with. Also, PM me a link to the map and ill try it out.

Again, I don't think the pack needs to be overly scientific to be realized as "scifi".

First, the world is already synthetic. Elios was a "construct world" built by the makers. Only the bare minimum of biological entities exist, like grass, plants (for food), etc and are designed to be highly compatible with everything else in the universe so that potential Champions can breed their cattle and whatnot. As for the creeper, I'm somewhat attached to the idea I have already, but if something goes wrong, robotic is definetely on the table.
The easiest suggestion would be to have the wool to be a highly reactive solid that actively bonds with all pigment reagents, there fore the wool is actually becoming a new isotope of the original substance?
Pretty sure I scrapped the idea you are quoting a loooong loooong time ago. Wool is just wool now.

I like certain ideas here. First of all AtikLar made the suggestion of turning gold swords into shotguns. I'm going to test this out first, and hope it works, just so I can have 2 guns in the game even if one is for show. Push comes to shove, I'll use a stun baton which was originally what I was going to do. I can use animated textures to make those look cooler.
Hrmmm I wasn't aware that wither skeletons spawn in Nether Fortresses. That does sorta force the idea that NF's have to be ruined. Anyway, special ops vannix is in line with what I have planned.
Daylight sensors will most definetely be solar panels. It was so simple I didn't think of it
As for redstone block, I kind of wanted to make them a little computer. It makes sense with the redstone being circuits and all. Also:
That's the creative inventory GUI I finished yesterday. Needs a few tweaks and textures, but thats basically it.

Those are also some of my favourite games! despite ME3 being fairly disappointing.... ever tried FTL?
Btw i'll show you one of my sci-fi base builds when i replace th blocks with your texture version as it was built with end is extremely nigh
Those are basically the ideas we came up with.
And I think the majority of ME3 wasn't dissapointing, people just got too hyped for it and thought it would be perfect. The majority of the game was excellent. The last 5 minutes of the game was a bit of a letdown, but doesn't tarnish the series I don't think.
I have seen yogscast playthroughs of FTL and it looks pretty good. I might get it on steam some time.
Cool, always interested to see builds by you guys. When I launch the Codex 2.0 this weekend I intend to add sections for stuff like this.
*EDIT* In case you don't know, NovemberAlpha, use the MultiQuote to reply to multiple posts, that way you don't triple post.

My sole issue with ME3 would be the fact that the campaign felt rushed, i understood that the reapers were coming but there needed to be more diplomatic choices like a way to still please the salarians even though we help wrex or a way to receive more war assets without turning to their multiplayer.
Thanks, never tried the multi-qoute button before.

Btw wither skellies only spawn in nether forts
I kind of see your point, but it makes sense that you aren't always able to please everyone.
It looked like really good, but the area in the center where the items are seem to be slightly off in terms of how bright/dark the tone is as the side tabs look slightly different.
Btw have you started the 1.5 texture port?

It's not that its off, just they are in the background. Notice the tab pulled down matches the color of the center. The darker one is to make it look like it isn't activated. Anyway, might need to tinker with that since it wasn't really clear.
I haven't started 1.5 texture port yet, I want to get as much done as I can before 1.5 goes live. I want to have a pre-1.5 version for people to use (for whatever reason, maybe an outdated mod). I don't want to have to go back and forth between the two more than I have to. That being said, Dinnerbone released a program for texture pack artists that converts it in more-or-less 1 click. The only thing that would have to be sorted out then is redoing my animated textures with the vanilla way instead of mcpatcher. I'm kind of worried about this update though. Before it was like, you download MCPatcher and Optifine mainly to get the HD Patch, then stuff like custom colors and animated textures is added as a bonus. Now since you don't need McPatcher to do the HD Patch, people would have to go and download it JUST to get stuff like connected textures and custom colors, which I don't think they will do and parts of my pack rely on those. I sure hope Mojang has plans to make the vanilla texture support as in-depth as mcpatcher's.
I was just looking at some dead space 3, and i thought about how you wanted to retexture the bow and keep it sorta real with the metal rods/sticks? instead of a flechette thrower how about the javelin-ish kinda gun like dead space 2? you know, shoot the titanium spear-rod things?

I liked the Ripper in DS1, just because it was that cool. Anyway I messed around some and created a cool looking dart for the flechette gun. However the javelin gun sounds like an even better idea, and makes the most sense for the recipe, since it uses sticks. I'll get to work on that. (Any ideas for feathers, then? They are currently used for arrows and book and quill. Chickens are biological, but I can change that if it comes to it).

Yea i agree Mcpatcher should already be vanilla in my opinion as it is only graphics options.
Also... I just realized I have never once uploaded a file for download online....
What do?
EDIT: Nevermind, I think I've got it.

Curse PremiumLooks like the space elevators from Halo.
I thought that as well!
Taking a quick look at the map now, then look again when I get home from exams.
EDIT: WOW, impressed so far.
Dead Space also has the Rivit Gun, which could be an idea. Or the Ripper which shoots chainsaws... (Even though a glitch with the loot system makes it a really bad choice for the first game.)
