Maybe change Soulsand into the blue dust stuff, and make Netherrack into a more proper rock? (It can still be blue, but more stone-looking.)
Also, like I said, the metal could totally be an alloy of some sort. (They melt the moonrock with something else, then weld/forge it into the green bricks.)
Also, any thoughts on my Vannix suggestion from above?
The Netherrack texture that's in there now was severely WIP, it wasn't even meant to be released but I forgot to take it out. All it is is dark blue with some noise on top of it, so that I could test if that color looks good in the Nether (after I change the sky color with mcpatcher). So yeah, the finalized version was always meant to be rocky. I can imagine that the metal exists in really small concentrations inside the rock and then like you said is added to a different metal to form a stronger alloy.
About your Vannix suggestion. I wasn't ignoring it, I just wanted to put a bit more thought into it. First off let me say I like the idea of bricks as Vannix blocks. I had completely forgotten about them, and it would fit this purpose well. The metal could exist in a soft moldable form when found naturally (as clay in mc) and then cooked into its hard, solid, metal form. I'm unsure about making obsidian Vannix, however. I'm attached to the name "indestructite", and it sounds more human than Vannix.
As for the color I did find a cool color scheme that I think would work. It's sort of a dark green/blue, with gold highlites. I'm also probably going to make the vannix not fully suited, and show portions of their skin and face (randomobs comes in handy here, I could have armor variations, and versions with or without helmets).
I don't like the last suggestion though. It sounds cool, and would give me a theme for the mushroom biome, but the whole infection scifi trope is already represented with the xio'geni parasites. I'll think about it some more though, because perhaps the parasites are children or pets of the vannix. (On second thought that wouldn't work either because the parasites are native to elios, and a defense mechanism for the fortresses).

Set a side a tiny bit of time to do a tiny bit of progress on the ui:
If you'll notice the glowy bit on the bottom taking shape, it just needs some good highlites and metal-y textures. Then farther up you'll see I'm working out what kind of shape to use for the boxes in the inventory. Right now I'm thinking the bottom bit will be metal, the top bit with crafting and armor will also be metal, and the middle part where you store items will be purely holographic.
Also figured out that the gui doesn't support transparency (only in certain parts), so no glowy border around it
Isee. Admittedly I knew my idea was chiche, but using Bricks would kinda make the Vannix blocks almost never show up naturally. (Since I don't think any standard structures use Bricks) And I hoped the mushroom stuff would give them more a presence.
The UI is looking really cool.
Also, just a quick complaint after taking a look around a stronghold. The yellow iron bars seem to have been made with the human pallet in mind. But, the problem there is that I don't think they ever spawn in the Nether with the other human blocks. However, they are used a lot in Strongholds, and clash kind of heavily with the Black and Red theme.

Yeah I realize that the Vannix are kind of detached from the world structurally...and I don't have a problem at all with being cliche for this pack, the goal is to represent scifi (without taking too much from a specific source). However, if I made mushroom biomes the bio-mechanic vannix place, then bricks would still not be the primary building block. I guess I could explain the reason that Vannix structures don't appear on the planet is that most of their structures exist in huge floating motherships in space, and they fortify maker structures for their ground presence.
I know about the iron bars. It was sort of a risk-gain thing, because odds are most structures people build are going to be more human-oriented (this is on purpose). However one of my main goals was immersion, so I'm considering finding a middle ground that could ideally be used for both (although nothing will look quite as cool as the yellow bars did).
--------
Here's a little more progress on the UI.
As you can see the holographic part is taking shape, it just needs a bit more shading I think to make it feel more holographic. I also finished blocking off the top and bottom metal parts. Next I'll try cutting off sections and making it more angular, and then going over that with lines to make it look sectioned. Then I'll put vents and other things in it to make it look cooler.
Hrmmm... you have a point there with the mushroom biomes and such.
Maybe, instead, they are sections of the Planet that have becomes overgrown with natural life, as opposed to the notmally artificial-seeming other biomes? With the trees being pipes and vents, the giant mushrooms would find themselves as the most massive plantlife on the planet and such, and the Mycellium could be changed to more evolved grass or something?
I feel like changing the iron bar to a dark orange, or maybe even a black, would blend with both strongholds and the human pallette nicely.
I've personnally been coming up with a story idea that I might try to make into an adventure map.

Yeah that's probably what I'll do for the mushroom biome. I like the suggestion for iron bars too...a dark orange would probably fit just as good as yellow does. And I'm glad you are working on an adventure map, but just be careful because a lot of the lore is going through a massive rewrite to prepare for the Codex 2.0 update.
Yeah, it's kind of why I'm not getting too into it yet. Just the skeleton of the story, NPC character personnalities and such.
That's what I was going to suggest. I can't wait to see some progress (once I make some progress, heh). I wouldn't mind testing the map, either. I will probably make some adventure maps, too, but ultimately the goal was to have that type of stuff be a community effort. Sort of a sub-community of MCforums where scifi players can flock and share builds, adventure maps, skins and what have you. It will be cool to see where this ends up when it gains popularity
Alright, so I have the main skeleton of the adventure map planned out, but would like some information before finalizing things.
1. Exactly what is the Enderdragon lore-wise? I was going to have it be the last remanants of the Makers or something (Similiar to the Didact from H4) But that's still up in the air, obviously.
2. A major portion of the third act is that the player finds themselves in the middle of a battle between Void-Wanderers and the Vannix. Is this alright or against lore?
3. Also, during the transition from the second to third act, I have a large 'creeper' hive (With spawn holes made in the walls by Creeper explosions and Mycellium as a filler block to make it look like more than just random caves.) I was wondering if such a location was okay to show for this short while, and if I should just stick with the 'overgrown' look I have with mushrooms, mycellium, and vines, or do you have another filler block idea?
4. Would the Vannix be in combat with the 'Creepers' or have some way to control them like the Parasites? (They have some presence in the Hive, but I'm tried to set it up that they might be trying to clear it out)

The Makers were huge sports, in love with the prospect of gladitorial combat. They loved challenge, and challenging others. At some point in there history the Makers contracted some sort of uncurable disease. Rather than focus their time on trying to cure their ailment, they decided to do one final honorable act. To create the ultimate arena: Elios IV. Whoever was in power will recieve benefits from the planet, and honor of course. The enderdragon a beast of the Void, the Maker's sacred realm. My original plan was that there is only one enderdragon, and this is the ultimate challenge, but then I realize that nobody would be able to include it in maps and it basically states all other player's adventures as non-canon. Instead the enderdragons are fierce beasts that inhabit the Void, and people who defeat them are considered to be great champions.
2. A major portion of the third act is that the player finds themselves in the middle of a battle between Void-Wanderers and the Vannix. Is this alright or against lore?
The Void-wanderers and Vannix are in a shaky alliance. The Void-wanderers have agreed to work with the Vannix to eliminate the humans, but then it is unclear how long that alliance will last after the objective is completed. This uneasy tension could easily lead to some sort of conflict (although it would be minor, and resolved before long).
I don't have any ideas for that, no. And it is okay to use the creeper hives, although it should be noted they are hidden well underground and out of reach, so you'll need some sort of circumstance as to how the player came about it. He can't just stumble upon it by accident.
4. Would the Vannix be in combat with the 'Creepers' or have some way to control them like the Parasites? (They have some presence in the Hive, but I'm tried to set it up that they might be trying to clear it out)
Since the Creepers are not hostile to skeletons and will roam around with them, it isn't possible for me to make them enemies. However they are not under "control" by the vannix either. The only mobs the vannix are in control of is the spiders, cybernetic non-sentient beasts from their homeworld.
I should explain the Heirarchy of the vannix and their allies, because there is some confusion (admittedly some of the blame is mine as the lore has been constantly evolving).
The void-wanderers were the first aliens to find Elios (in recent years. Ancient civlizations have been finding Elios since it was created, but either obliterate each other, die out, or choose to leave). The planet opens wormholes at random spots in the galaxy at random times, bringing "competitors" to the world. The void-wanderers are the only species who was brought to elios in its entirety, as they were all aboard a lifeship that went through the wormhole. The humans and vannix are just fragments of their respective fleets who were marooned here. The void-wanderers had primitive technology compared to the Vannix and even Humans, and would have been easily been wiped out by the Vannix. However, as luck would have it, the Vannix had the planet to themselves for a year or two before the other species came. Because of this, they had a greater understanding of Maker technology and access to the Void and the power it grants.
The parasites are defense-mechanisms of the planet, designed to prevent access to the Void. They were beaten back by the void-wanderers who then entered the void and thus gained control over the planet. Becaise they are champions of the planet, the parasites are under their control, not the Vannix's.
The vannix were the second species to arrive. Prior to this the small armada of ships was escorting a Creeper queen and her children to be executed and purged by sending them into the sun. However, when something went wrong, when the Vannix acquired a "distant anomaly" on their sensors, after going through a wormhole the armada found themselves stuck on the planet. Like the other species, their FTL drives were rendered useless by the wormhole. The Vannix found the Void-wanderers in power. The smart, tactical aliens waited in orbit, cloaked, waiting for some sort of oppurtunity. Meanwhile they were trying to figure out what to do about the Creeper problem.
The humans entered the system last after going through the same sort of wormhole, but found themselves coming instead to the moon of elios, without the fuel required to make it to the seemingly fertile planet. They landed on the moon to refuel.
Meanwhile the Void-wanderers picked up the human prescence on the moon, which they previously had no interest in. They began to formulate some sort of military plan, when the Vannix came out of hiding. The vannix could no longer last without supplies from the planet, and did not think a better opportunity would arise. Rather than wait for a moment to strike against the Void-wanderers, they chose to ally with them for the time being. The void-wanderers were startled, but not as angry with the vannix as they were the humans. So they signed an uneasy pact to work together to destroy the invaders. Meanwhile the Creeper problem worsened, and the vannix finally made a deal with the Queen. They allowed them to burrow and make hives, making Elios their home. In return, certain creepers would have to help with the war effort. The vannix also sometimes guarded the hives in turn. However the most important agreement was for the Vannix to have the Queen's backing if the void-wanderers were to turn on them. This would likely not apply to a small little skirmish over a disagreement like the one in your map, but if the two sides were to go to war with each other.
Hopefully that clear up any confusion you might have. More detailed lore will come with the GUI update next friday.

*EDIT*:
The planet allows certain freelancers from random species to be teleported to elios as well. These are the players. The humans are more accepting of them, which is why they are neutral (unless you trespass, at which point you will be attacked by security robots). In this way players do not have to be human. The vannix and void-wanderers, however, are more hostile towards outsiders who they see as "invaders".
Currently, my map story is set up so the players are human military. They are originally sent down as a platoon to help guard a research outpost, but get caught up in a Vannix attack on one of the Moon Bases, discover the Void-Wanderers (Which, in my dialouge, I've been treating as either an unidentified, or top-secret species) and eventually get back down Planetside. Once there, they find themselved in the middle of a small section of a Creeper Hive. The Hive itself has been dug into the area sorrounding a Maker structure (Which, in my development, I've nicknamed "The Labyrynth") full of Void-Wanderers that they must fight through.
Once through there, they come upon an End Portal. My current thought is that a segment of the Vannix have been attempting to get to the portal inorder to get into the Void. (The new lore also provides me with a perfect motivation.) However, the Void-Wanderers have been feircely guarding the structure from them. The antics of the player obviously offer the Vannix the perfect cover to get in and begin an all-out battle within the void.
When the player arrives, the major NPCs of the story piece together that the Vannix are after the Dragon for whatever reason, and they can't let them have it. So there is a (hopefully) awesome 3-way battle within the End, using mods to switch up behaviors for the Mobs and such. Then the Player kills the Enderdragon and hops into the portal.
I'm hoping to find some way to have the portal teleport the player to someplace besides their last spawn, so I can make a more ambiguous ending. But currently, that's my idea for the story.

First off let me say this sounds rather cool and ambitious.
Next, its perfectly fine for the player to be part of the human military. Or an ex-convict, a vannix outcast, a bounty hunter, etc. The reason I did it that way was so that you would have the most choice possible. Pretty much the only thing you can't be is a member of the Void-walkers/vannix.
Next, I think it would fit the lore better if these Vannix were a sect that broke off from the rest of the Armada. Maybe they formally broke off like the Storm Covenant in Halo 4, or it is something spontaneous like a mob. Either way, its probably best to resolve this conflict or allude to it by the end of the map.
As for having the ability to teleport somewhere besides spawns, look into Command Blocks. They are a pretty new block, but they allow pretty much any server command to be applied to a minecraft adventure map through redstone. Pretty sure they can't teleport between realms though, just to coordinates in the one your in. So if you were going to end it after that, you could use a command block to tp to a closed in building underground in the Void that just looks like its back on Elios. Sort of a little allusion to get around that. Or, maybe its possible to teleport the player somewhere after he is first teleported to the spawn with the portal. Maybe you can set up a little teleporter when they get back to take them to the end, that is hidden somewhere close to the start and you aren't told about it until the end. Either way it will probably take some messing around to get it working right. I also like the way dialogue works with Command Blocks. New adventure maps are using them instead of signs, and you can use them to show someone talking to you in the chatbar when you say, step on a pressure plate. Just some ideas for you

Near final UI:
It has a cool brushed metal texture to it. Also I decided to show what the window is called in the corner, this will be universal for the other ui as well. Now that I got the feel for how these are going to look, progress through the rest of the guis should be relatively fast.
Cool! I specially like that items well visible in inventory, because i often find that texturepacks drop good visibility items in invetory for nice look textures itself make inventory hard usable.

Yeah I know. I plan to release the GUI in several different colors though, so some of them might make certain items less visible. Thats up to the player to switch to them though. Hopefully the brightness/contrast factor alone is enough for distinction despite the color.
For dialogue and story, I've been using books that are written in script format.
I have the map playable up until the End Portal right now, although I haven't written the last few books yet (Partially because I'm still working on some parts of the story and how things will pan out). If you throw me your email in a PM or w/e, I could send it to you to try out.
Also, did you have a name in mind for the insectoid Creeper race? Otherwise I was thinking of just having the characters call them "Buggers" as a Halo referance...

I have half a mind to just call them creepers. I tried several things for the creeper, but in the end what really worked out what just keeping them the same. They are going to look pretty much the same but have scifi metroid-y colors like teal, orange, purple, etc.
Perhaps their proper name is nearly in-pronouncable, so they simply go by various nicknames?
I can't really imagine a race calling themselves the "Creepers."
If I may make a suggestiontion, assuming you've droped the insectiod angle; perhaps try to make them plantlike? It is my understanding that, lorewise, Creepers are mobile plants that naturally produce Gunpower, and explode in order to spread their seeds/spores. Most texture packs seem to make them reptillian or something, and I think it would be interesting to see a 'proper' 32x creeper.
Wow haven't been here in awhile ever sinced you mentioned you were stopping for Halo 4 and my my you have been busy....
Just got the latest edition of it and this looks amazing the immersion is even better than before, and if i never told you this, you are now my favourite artist simply because i can feel the amount of thought and work that makes this pack the very best!
Lore-wise:
I have a few suggestions to the pack,
First, the portal-lore should about it being an experimental and unstable portal tech thats why it never appears in the same place? and the obsidian can represent a form of stability ring to mantain and restrain its shape? it being experimental will also explain why the portals are so small.... as for nether fortresses, the lore about it should be that they were frontier outposts of sorts and they were attacked by vannix but only barely managed to repel them. This would explain why the fortresses are half destroyed and bare. They were also reduced to farming for food namely nether wart as well as why the security bots, blazes, are attacking you is that their central network was destroyed therefore they are unable to register new human entities. The void wanders should be related to the vannix through a mutual truce? hence why they dont openly attack each other?
The trees could just look biological but remember commonite makes up that planets crust therefore it would be safe to assume that they have high mineral content therefore when we make sticks, we are simply striping out the high mineral concentration areas out of the log?
could i also suggest changing the bow to something like a flechette thrower? hence the reclaimable arrows because to collect plasma orbs, plasma being ionised gas, would mean that your hands are resistant to very high temperature but you are human?
the lore for flowers would be something like this:
The plants on this planet are weak and malleable compared to their tree counterparts as they are easily crushed by bare hands. they also show a high level of pigments that are most likely derived from the minerals in the soil.
Btw i would love to help out with the codex lore because i love science! i major in physics and chemistry so i have a fair understanding of the world.
I kind of had my own idea for the portals, if you want to hear it;
As you may or may not know, there are molecules throughout the universe theorized to move faster than light. Altering one will instantly effect all of them throughout the universe.
I had the idea that both the Indistructium or w/e and the Maker structures are made with very high concentrations of these molecules. (To explain how the wormholes pull people to the planet and such)
In terms of the human portals, it is impossible to travel 'short' distances with them, due to the sheer speed anyone using them will move at. However, it is possible to roughly predict the travel distance and connect portals between the planet and moon, allowing humans to travel back and forth quickly.
In my own map, the first portal is in a maker structure. When powered, it launches the player to the moon at a Vannix base where they are preparing for the assault on the human base. The next portal is a human portal that was 'knocked out of alignment' when the room it was in was destroyed and fell into the lava ocean below. Going into the portal then sends the player into the Creeper Hive. (For gameplay reasons there is a safe room with a checkpoint. But storyline-wise, they just fall right in the Hive.)

I don't have any ideas for that, no. And it is okay to use the creeper hives, although it should be noted they are hidden well underground and out of reach, so you'll need some sort of circumstance as to how the player came about it. He can't just stumble upon it by accident.

Curse PremiumFirst off let me say this sounds rather cool and ambitious.

Curse PremiumYeah I know. I plan to release the GUI in several different colors though, so some of them might make certain items less visible. Thats up to the player to switch to them though. Hopefully the brightness/contrast factor alone is enough for distinction despite the color.

Curse PremiumI have half a mind to just call them creepers. I tried several things for the creeper, but in the end what really worked out what just keeping them the same. They are going to look pretty much the same but have scifi metroid-y colors like teal, orange, purple, etc.
