I didn't have time to upload pictures, hopefully I can do that tommorow. Anyway, I accomplished everything I said I would for this week's update. Next week is the armory update, which will include all of the armor and maybe a new bow.
Since I don't have pictures up, you'll just have to download and take a look
I'm going to hold off releasing today's texture pack until tomorrow or possibly even Sunday, because I don't want to rush it and I have a few more things I wanted to add in there.
Took me all weekend, but its here! Basically I didn't like the results of some of the armors, so rather than rush it I delayed it a few days and started up again. I really like the way each one turned out, especially the leather (which is dyeable!). If you are wondering where the chain armor is, its not in there yet because I had a specific idea for it. Since it is only available through trades, it will be the robe/garment that the villager monks wear. Problem is. I have to texture those mobs before I can make the armor for it.

Ah, I knew it was a problem with Optifine's coding. However, next time I'll know to tell people to try and turn off those optional features if it bugs out. Thanks. What do you think of the texture pack?
Nice texturepack. You very carefully select new textures and in result my village where i test pack look totaly different but it still look good without strange parts as can be expected with like big changes. I will continue look for your progress with pack. Maybe will play with it at some point Sorry if i write in wrong English maybe, it's not my native and well known language.
Did I ever mention that this is one of my favorite texture packs? I don't think i have, but this pack is simply amazing. It fits together well, the textures are high quality, the style is very ascetically pleasing, and the story is intriguing. As a whole, nothing added feels out of place (the default textures do though).
Can't wait to see what else is in store.
Hey, brand new here, but I had grabbed this pack and love what you've done. I just have a couple ideas I thought you might like.
The red fire contrasts really sharply in the Nether/Moon especially. Perhaps something about the atmosphere making the fire hotter so it burns blue or white? Or maybe high amounts of copper make it green even? Just an idea.
For the metallic trees; what if the planet isn't developed enough to support mass plantlife? The grass and such are simply early simple forms of plantlife, while the 'trees' are in fact massive vents or something that come up from the inner workings of the planet?
For a name of the Militarized Commonite, why not something like Commobrick X-1 or something? It's a military-sounding designation, imo.
Also, I LOVE the idea of the Pigmen being human millitary. It's awesome.

Thanks! Yeah, the goal was to transform minecraft into a scifi setting. I think I did good with the villages, which were hard to do since you can't change the shape and have to rely on texturing.

No, you haven't, and it means a lot coming from you! Trust me, there is a lot more awesome stuff to come, keep checking back on saturdays.

Yes, I am aware of the whole fire situation. Problem is, fire uses the same texture in the overworld and the nether. However, mcpatcher has this thing where you can make any block or item like the grass, and color it depending on the biome. I'm not sure if fire is even a block or item, or if the nether counts as a biome. However, if it does, I'll change that.
About your explanation for the trees, yes that was sort of what I was thinking of in my head, I just hadn't bothered to write it down anywhere. The trees are just wierd mechanical struts/vents etc. that are jutting from the ground. It has a simple ecology with only basic grass, however that grass is very adapable and can grow plants from other planets (considering adding some stuff like pumpkin as is).
As for your suggestion for ex-militarized commonite, it sounds a little too similar to Commonite, and in my headcanon that metal doesn't even come from Elios, it is found either back on Earth colonies or it was present on the Elios' moon.
Yeah, I like the idea of zombie pigmen being humans too. The Blaze's will be like security robots defending nether fortresses (human bases), and they attack trespassers, thats why pigmen are neatral and they are hostile. There is only minor problems with the pigmen, like if you push them into the overworld the skellies (vannix, aka their enemy) won't fight them, and they share the same potion configuration as hostile mobs, so if you toss healing potions they get hurt.
_______________
I've decided to move the release dates to saturdays. The reason is that I've been having school on fridays, so when I get home its already relatively late, and if I have any minor changes I end up releasing it late before midnight anyway. Better that I just push them to early on saturdays, when more people are awake, plus that gives me a little bit more time to polish.
Also, I'm considering altering the tone of the pack's lore. Right now its a bit serious, and I think it would flow together better if it was a bit more lighthearted and comical. Then consistency errors that I just can't fixed can be more or less handwaved in a funny way. It would also allow easier integration with adventure maps, and with the blocky and slightly cartoony textures, it would fit better. Is anyone attached to the slightly serious tone that I had going on?
P.S:
Working on getting the Alchemy ingrediants update done for saturday. I'm going to try and make it make sense as much as possible, but some of it isn't working like redstone (glowy circuits) being used for the stimpacks. Also, I'm changing the spider mobs to be cyborg and actually part arachnid, because it lets me still use copper wire for string, and use a poison gland for the spider eye. Also, it would look cooler.
Just asking about the leaves; do you have an idea for them or whatever? I was thinking they could be some sort of lifeform that feeds off of whatever comes from the vents. Apples could obviously be a piece of them that is edible (Making them a sort of mold, probably).
And then Saplings could be containers of nanobots or something that build new pipes when activated with suitable room.
Also, since Skeletons and Wither Skeletons can occasionally spawn in Nether Fortresses, I was thinking that the Wither Skeleton could be some sort of elite Vannix trooper or something, to imply that they are fighting with the Military on the moon (Which would also explain why there aren't any Military on the Planet) And the Wither itself could maybe be some sort of Vannix drone fighter ship that gets called down when you build the statue. (The beacon would be its power core. And an explination for why it shows up might be that in dire situations, the Vannix will summon it with the skulls of their fallen.)
Then Blazes can be security robots that are found around tha bases, like you said. Ghasts might also be robots, or maybe native aliens of the moon.
As for mobs not attacking eachother and stuff, I wouldn't really worry too much about that. You could have someone make a small optional mod to change how certain mobs work. (Which would be possible. By changing Zombie Pigmen to living, you could program them to attack any undead mobs, which would just be the opposite of how the Wither's AI works.)
EDIT:
Also, while building in creative and taking a close look at some mobs, there is a random pixel on the Skeleton, floating just under their arms.

Well, for the leaves I had thought to just keep them leaves. Yeah, it might not make the most sense, but I think it would look the best, and it would still make the planet feel semi-natural.
The mod thing is something I had thought about. Maybe once (if) this gets popular someone could do a simple mod like that that fixes minor inconsistencies like pigmen and having to use axes on the metal wood. The rest of your ideas are things perfectly in line with what I would like to do.
Perhaps then, what I should be doing, is telling you what I actually need ideas for. One inconsistency is that I made books into datapads and I kept sugar as a alien sugar equivalent, forgetting that datapads come from paper, which stems from sugar canes. Since paper is also used for paintings (i think), I had thought to make the sugar canes also contain a liquid used to work the lcds for the holograms. But then also, leather is now needed for books...and leather armor is actually leather. Lots of stuff thats going to be hard to fit together.
Also, a few of the alchemy ingredients are causing me trouble. Blaze powder seemed simple enough, I could make it some form of flammable fluid or incineration fuel. However, it is also used to create magma cream, which has the opposite effect of causing fire resistance. Now maybe in magic that makes sense, but in science I'm confused how I could make a flammable ingredient combine with something to make a flame retardant material. Which brings me to slimeballs, which I'm still not sure what to do with. I wanted to make the sticky pistons gravity-pistons, or sticky plasma pistons or something like that, but then I wouldn't be sure what to do with slimes or how to make that combine with blaze powder to make magma cream.
So there you go. Completely understandable if you can't think of anything, its a lot for even me to wrap my brain around on a daily basis, and its proving even more difficult to piece together in a plausible manner.
Well, for the replacement Blaze Powder, you could have them be a container of the flamable liquid, with the inside coated with a flame-resistant material, which is what gets combined with the slime balls. (The Blaze Rods themselves might be the main weapon that the container fuels, but unable to be used after seperation from the robot.)
Perhaps if the Slimeballs were some sort of concentrated Plasma goop, it would make sense that it 'consumes' the fire-resistant material and combines with it to create a flame-retardent liquid of sorts.
Meanwhile, combining it with a Piston could mean that the piston is powering the goop, and giving it a large gravity mass. (This might mean Slimes need to be some sort of weird non-living blob things that just hop around areas of the planet, and you generally don't want to go messing with (Because radioactive moving plasma things are just bad...)
As for the books. Perhaps the liquid contained withing the stalks has a strange 'hardening' effect when it comes in contact with the Bruma hide, making it into more of a metal?
Also, I came up with a brief idea earlier related to the Golden 'Sword'.
I was thinking that it could be changed into a sort of Shotgun, to explain why the 'Pigmen' need to get right next to you to attack. (As far as I know, they don't swing their arms, so the animation works out.) And, for the most part, the military simply doesn't send enough ammo planetside for the player to actually use it as more than a glorified club. (Albeit a sometimes quite effective glorified club.)

Wow, those ideas are teriffic. I think I like and will expand on all of them except for the one about leather. I think rather than trying to make leather have some metal, I'll just make the books have some leather. Maybe the metal is wrapped in leather to make it more confortable to hold. or something like that.
EDIT: Or I can make the leather an amalgation of both leather and some metal, so that in the book it has metal and is wrapped in leather, and the leather armor is leather but with brass linings and medals and things like that.
I love the shotgun idea. I hadn't even though about it that way. Hopefully they make a noise when they attack, so that I can change it into the shotgun noise with a sound pack. Still, even without a sound it works better than what I had. Thanks for the help.
Honestly, I think thats all the inconsistencies fixed (never thought I'd say that). From here its just lots of texturing. I've got some cool stuff to come, like the UI update which I promise to make look super cool. The inventory part of the UI will be holographic, and the crafting table/furnace-type UI's will look mechanic and attach to the inventory part. I'll also open up a optional textures section that has extra stuff you can switch out or change to customize. The first addition will be several different colors for the holographic UI, including red, cyan, blue, green, gold and colors like that. Plus, when I release the UI I am also pushing out the Codex 2.0, with updated lore for every block/item so far, and a new way to navigate to these. Lots of cool stuff to come :].
Posting it as links since I don't want to clog up your thread with pictures. The theme of this pack is really fun to work with. But I was just sort of wondering; what sort of blocks would you suggest for Vannix buildings? Going by their armor, I was thinking Lapis, but that was changed to a yellow color, so I'm not sure.

Me too! As far as video game scifi goes, I am a Halo, Mass Effect and Dead Space fan.
Now I ran into a problem with Vannix blocks. I originally wanted to use mossy cobblestone, and then dungeons could be Vannix bases. However this didn't work out, since the blue Vannix metal contrasted horribly with commonite, and made jungle temples look really bad. So then I just made mossy cobble into mossy commonite.
I'm also still not sold on the color scheme for the Vannix, which feels to similar to the Covenant from Halo. However, I couldn't really think of any other alien colors. Red/orange is covered by the void-wanderers/Makers, and green is covered by the human military. I tried for a yellow, but it had the same problem as blue that it needed to be bright to look good, but when I made it bright I can't make any lighter shade for highlights.
But I do need to figure it out, because I have ways to make human military structures, and blocks to make Maker structures (stone bricks). Since the floor/brace blocks are designed to fit with any theme, conceivably I only need to set aside one block for the Vannix block. Lapiz seems good, but I was going to make it an energy block for creating reactor cores and engines.
Perhaps Bricks? (So that you can have half-slabs and stairs of the main Vannix block.) Since they don't really seem to be anything currently? Also, maybe make Obsidian into something Vannix based, and say that the Portals are their ideas originally?
As for the design themselves, perhaps throw some brown in there for the standard troopers, and make the shock troopers Black and Green (Like they're trying to blend into the human bases and give themselves an edge)? I honestly did like the blue, but I agree in that it instantly makes me draw parallels to the covenant.
EDIT: New idea I had while trying to build a Vannix base in creative. Perhaps they are bio-mechanical lifeforms (Like cybernetic versions of the flood or Necromorphs). Bricks, Mycellium, and Mushroom Blocks would be themed around them. Their buildings (mostly made out of Bricks) are bascally giant versions of themselves. They slowly spread and alter anything around them to continue building. Ston becomes 'bricks' and grass becomes 'mycellium' and trees become 'mushrooms'. Mooshrooms could also maybe get themed around them somewhat.
It was going to be a really small update, so I threw some extra stuff in. I left out blaze rods (because I'm still unsure about the whole flammable object turning into a fire retardant) and nether wart (this is the base for all non-harmful potions, it will simply be a plant so I have to think of what it will look like).
Netherwart would prossibly some sort of imported herb from a colony world (Since you find them in Nether Fortesses quite often)
Also, with the next snapshot, you'll be able to smelt Netherrack into crafting materials to make Netherbrick. So, looks like the Military block will be made from the moon dust. Maybe something like "Lunasteel" for a name?

Also yay updates! \o/
Yeah the nether wart would have to from the colonies because it has been in use with medicine (depending on how long humans have been on Elios, which I say is relatively short).
Also, NOOOOOOOOOOOO! I was hoping they would never do that. I was excited to find out way back when that nether brick couldn't be crafted, which meant I could make it the military metal. It doesn't really make sense that it is crafted from the moon rock, so I'm not really sure what I'm going to do yet.
Maybe change Soulsand into the blue dust stuff, and make Netherrack into a more proper rock? (It can still be blue, but more stone-looking.)
Also, like I said, the metal could totally be an alloy of some sort. (They melt the moonrock with something else, then weld/forge it into the green bricks.)
Also, any thoughts on my Vannix suggestion from above?

Curse PremiumWow, those ideas are teriffic.
I've also been working on some creative builds using the texture pack. Mostly a military base idea I had.

Curse PremiumMe too!

Curse PremiumIt was going to be a really small update, so I threw some extra stuff in. I left out blaze rods (because I'm still unsure about the whole flammable object turning into a fire retardant) and nether wart (this is the base for all non-harmful potions, it will simply be a plant so I have to think of what it will look like).
Next week's update is the GUI update.
Also, with the next snapshot, you'll be able to smelt Netherrack into crafting materials to make Netherbrick. So, looks like the Military block will be made from the moon dust. Maybe something like "Lunasteel" for a name?
Also yay updates! \o/

Curse PremiumYeah the nether wart would have to from the colonies because it has been in use with medicine (depending on how long humans have been on Elios, which I say is relatively short).
Also, like I said, the metal could totally be an alloy of some sort. (They melt the moonrock with something else, then weld/forge it into the green bricks.)
Also, any thoughts on my Vannix suggestion from above?
