I personally think that the Minecraft Textures are fine; except one thing. The Default textures are trying to be realistic, but they are failing at it. I like more simplistic textures. You see, this was made in the style of FVDisco's OCD Pack. It's not trying to be realistic at all. Don't beat up on it and say that it could have been made in 5 minutes; I worked very hard on this pack and some people enjoy simplicity.
12w25a ready!
Blocks- I made them only have 1 or 2 main colors, and changed the designs. This doesn't mean that they're all just a square of one color; simple and no detail are two different things.
Armor- The armor is basically the primary color with black edging. Chainmail is currently broken, but it will be fixed soon.
Items- I wasn't very creative when it came to items. There are 2 or 3 texturesdidn't even change (The cocoa beans actually are changed, because I play in the pre-release and I hated the new texture. If you are playing in 1.2.5 or earlier, they look just the same.) I mostly simplified the colors; the edge of a blaze rod, for example, has about a million shades of orange. I just changed all that to a primary orange color.
Golden Hoe- Why does it look like a hammer? Well, the admin of cole2sworld, (http://cole2sworld.com/) cole2_, has a plugin where the Golden Hoe is his banhammer. I asked if I could use his texture and simplify it, and he said yes.
Paintings- A lot of the paintings are faces of known youtubers. The two you might not recognize is the one of me, Drayko_Sanbar, and the one of my brother, Sergeant_Dusty. The one with the orange background and a picture of my skin fighting a creeper is my computer background that I drew myself. It looks much better in full resolution.
Panorama- The famous panorama on the home screen is of my singleplayer world.
Mojang Title- It says Drayko Sanpack. I think we all know Mojang made Minecraft.
Mobs- A few of the mobs need to be specially noted, but they were mostly just simplified.
Pig- Well, I have a pig in my enchanting room named Dumbledore. The rest explains itself.
Cow- I have a cow lounge in my world. Why not make Gamer Cows?
Grass- The Grass is forever green, thanks to AntVenom.
Gui- All the GUI's have only the important parts; most of the GUI is invisible.
Chests- Chests are made out of the birch wooden planks.
Rule #4: You absolutely MUST have pictures and/or screenshots in your texture pack thread. Until you have pictures ready to go, do not post a thing. No one will click the download or even consider your pack until they have seen pictures. People like to know what they're downloading before they download it, especially since it could very well be a virus for all they know. If you want to show off your texture pack with just a few screenshots, use this map to test and gather pictures for your texture pack Bommer5's Texture Pack Showcase.
Also, I recommend putting the Mojang thing and whatever you want.
Simple packs are a good way to get familiar with texture pack creation, but please do not upload them to the forums. Newbie simple packs like these do not look good to most people, and we get them daily.
When you make a texture pack for Minecraft, it needs to appeal to people in some way for them to like it. It can be original, aesthetically pleasing, fit a niche audience, require patience and thought, provide a service or feature not in the game already, or any number of other things. The idea is that a texture pack must be admirable in some way for people to enjoy it in some way, whether they use it or not.
When you post a texture pack that has literally one or two colors per pack, with no shading, no added depth, nothing resembling detail so people can't tell what the texture even is, no style, and no overlying theme beyond the lack of all these qualities, and when you know that there are multiple of these exact same texture packs posted on a daily basis, it gives nobody any reason to admire or use the texture pack, much less applaud it.
This is the problem with simple packs. People thinks simplicity is all about a lack of detail, but it's not. People think they can color fill the boxes on the terrain.png file, add some pixelated lines here and there and it's completely fine. They think maybe someone will find some use out of a pack that took them a combined 24 hours to make. They might even feel like they are providing a service to people, or that what they have made is original enough to justify posting, or that it doesn't need to be original for people to like it.
The answer to all those things, is no. There are good simple textures that are made by people who know the standards of the forum and follow it. They think about color co-ordination, depth, shading, detail, and doing it with as little as possible. Bad simple texture packs are lazy, poorly designed, poorly colored, poorly shaded, poorly arranged, bland, uninspired, unoriginal, unstylized, unlikable and not worth the time to make, post, or download. I do not say this out of contempt or anger, this is really the truth.
And here's the final nail in the coffin. Art is subjective, and I fully know that. However, even if a texture pack is good, it absolutely MUST be original. Everyone likes the Mona Lisa. What if every artist and their grandmother repainted the mona lisa over and over again for a year with only extremely tiny differences between one Mona Lisa and the next. Oh, they might all look nice, and it might mean we have a lot of good artists out there, but for them to submit it to a museum and say "this is my art, please put it in your gallery" is ubsurd.
Now, take that analogy, and replace the Mona Lisa with a very bad videogame, like, say, E.T. for the Atari 2600 (or Superman 64 if you're too young to know what an Atari is). Say you recoded those games, hosted it, and posted a link to it on a videogame forum, saying "this is my video game, I hope you like it." How fast will it get old, to see that exact same thing posted several times a day by different authors?
Originality is the key to success, but if people know that what's behind the door is bad anyway, they'll probably be glad they don't have the key.
That's what's wrong with simple texture packs, and that's what's wrong with this texture pack. I hope you found it informative and think about it if and when you make another texture pack.
I custom drew all of these textures! The items had recolors, sure, but with the blocks I started almost everything on a clean slate. FVDisco's OCD Pack is on Planet Minecraft, and nobody tells him to remove it. If it's not worth your time, just look up some realistic pack. I put time and effort into this. It took me two weeks just to make the blocks, and I have had some experience with Paint.NET prior to this.
Exactly. Simplicty is not lack of detail. This is simple, and it does have detail! It may not be detail to the degree of Misa's Pack, but it isn't a solid block of one color. I am just as proud of this pack as Doku is of DokuCraft, or Misa is of his pack. This is more then something some idiot put together in a day. This is a texture pack that I made and I wish to share with the community. It doesn't have to be super realistic to be worth a post on the forums.

Planet Minecraft? This is NOT flipin' PMC. I don't care what they think over there. Also, disco has an obvious style that looks good. This? All I see is bucket fill that looks bad.

Sure, the grass is a straight color, I think it looks good that way, if that's what you're talking about. Otherwise, I did a whole bunch of this pixel by pixel. I made this pack how I wanted to make it, and I put a lot of effort into it. I also have my own style the way you said disco does. Obviously, you don't like that style. Have you noticed that the complainers have been the same people everytime? Some people like this style, including me.
Just because MCPatcher exists doesn't mean every pack has to be 32x packs! I don't like detailed packs, or anything higher then 16x.
Oh, and I like this style, not the speckled blocks thing. That looks ugly in my opinion. But I'm not going to go over there and spam up the topic like you did here.

I don't texture above 16x. Also, I don't see an obvious style on all the blocks, besides being flat. Disco's OCD is all about right angles. And please, add some shading. If not, add a little bit of detail, like that tutorial did. It would make this a whole lot better.

A few of the blocks, like the cactus you can see in the Tropicraft Beta Photo, have little glints of light in the corners. I use to have that on every block, but I removed it on most because it was overwhelming.
Since you obviously didn't read it in my last post:

I'm not saying do it in that style. I'm saying add a little detail. Also, the specks in the corner of each block? That could have been your style. Make the blocks in your current style, then add the specks. It would make a nice little style. And, as a suggestion, add some more contrast to the cobble.
Edit: Add a light glint in one corner, and a shadow glint in the one diagonal from it.
