GuruDefault 16x16 slightly modified default texture pack
by lostguru
current version: 1.2.5
Note: This 16x16 texture pack contains ONLY minor edits to the original default texture pack. If you came expecting something radical and out-of-the-box, I am sorry I disappointed you.
I originally made this pack for my own use, but after friends who saw me using this pack also started to replace their default pack with mine, I decided that maybe it was worth something. Again, I want to stress that fundamentally, there really aren't any large differences between this pack and the default pack, there are only minor changes that I made which I thought would help certain blocks mesh together when building with them. As more blocks come out, I may alter textures again to improve how they fit together.
All modifications were made by yours truly. Any similarities that may occur between existing packs are coincidental and unintended. If you happen to want to use something from this pack, as long as you give me and this pack credit I have no problems with you doing so (but do send me a link so I can check out your pack =] ).
List of alterations: (pictures embedded below)
- GUI and menus are now much darker, colored options have different hues, and the new background block is a significantly darkened version of the sandstone texture (did this because I like dark shades and my eyes get less tired often)
- cobble, stone, ores, and the other "rock" blocks are now a tad lighter (this includes variations of said blocks)
- stone slabs are also lighter
- wools are now lighter and more saturated (gives them a smoother look)
- sand & sandstone blocks have been made somewhat lighter and (very slightly) redder; sand also now has small red particles (wanted to go for that sparkling, white sand look); there is also a slightly more saturated version I made that has a stronger red tinge, i may add this as an alternate terrain.png texture later
- the particles in glass have been rearranged so that through the center you have a clear view
- ender blocks (including the portal frame) have been smoothed out (never really liked the veins much)
- glowstone has been made more saturated
- birch planks are slightly lighter
- chests have been made slightly more saturated (in an attempt to fit with the wood they're made from; mostly applies to the outer black edges)
- the lines of iron blocks have been made a little less apparent
- all stages of wheat growth except the final (ripe) stage have been slightly greened to make it easier to indicate harvesting periods
Please do realize that the small modifications in these blocks may be hard to see for some people. For others, they may be glaringly apparent. Sometimes it may even have to do with hardware. Playing in-game and switching between the two packs is the easiest way to spot the differences where there are any.

I don't like how the outlines on the furnace, dispenser and piston look, but I'm sure someone will like it.
some of my friends had the same reaction as you did; I'm still trying to think of other ways to have them compliment the blocks without messing the default look up too much (I tried brightening just the central portions of those blocks up but the edges ended up jarringly dark)
Why does this get so little attention? I think more people should see it!
Since this is an alternative to the default texture pack, rather than an original work, I guess we shouldn't be too surprised lol. I don't like the huge curve that comes with getting used to a new texture pack, I only wanted to edit the blocks I didn't like much, so I made my own with no intentions in the beginning to release it; in any case, thanks for the support!
Just looks like you lightened most of the terrain, not really a fan
mhmm, most of the changes were minor tweaks centered around personal opinion; the dodging for those particular blocks was so that all of those blocks would fit together more in a structure build (mainly the lighter blocks such as snow, sandstone, and birch). Since I build a lot more than I mine for ores, I wanted to prioritize aesthetic appeal without straying from Minecraft's original textures too much.
But then again, that's just something I do. Though everyone may be using a different texture pack, they all have the original as well, so I try to center my builds around the assumption that everyone will be viewing them with the default textures.
Thanks for the feedback though, I'll see what else I can do to make blocks blend well.

Thanks for taking a look!

very minor edits were made, all of the changes are listed in the original post and shown in the picture after the GUI
EDIT: original post was edited, this one is no longer relevant
yeah, this one was definitely opinionated on my part lol, I'll add an original or see if I can come up with a more porous version

thanks a lot for the critique =3

Hmm.
Sorry, I'll copy paste what I wrote above. Again, I only dodged the blocks that I felt needed changing. I didn't lighten up the whole pack.
...But that's just my opinion.
My DeviantART, requests welcome.
