What image editing program do you use? I suggest GIMP. While some say Photoshop and Paint.net is betetr, I find it simple and easy to use. And shading can be done very easily with the airbrush tool. Just seelct a few shades darker color than the one you are accenting and spray some of it on the spot that should be darker because of shadows and bumps.
