Hello!
This is my first pack, so be gentle - I'm still learning how things splice together. I'm open to constructive feedback and advice though!
This is a high-detail pack, so you will need the M'Patcher (which should go without saying).
General Notes:
This is a vaguely Celtic work inspired by some beautiful bone, shell and horn jewelry pieces I saw. I have been building it for myself really, but I thought maybe others would like to give it a look.
Yes, there are a lot of duplicate looking textures, but their flavors are slightly different to give some variety. If it becomes too much, I'll cut one of the flavors out and just go with the more obvious patterns.
I still have a lot of textures to go, but I'm slowly plugging along.
It seems that every time I get a few bits done, a patch comes out and adds more stuff! >.<
Most of the textures here are ones I put together or retouched from RL graphics sites (I do admit that there are a few bits that I can't remember where I got them they're so old).
The Art-KZ pack that is included (which doesn't work apparently) is the one I collected for my own enjoyment, I make no claims on any of the artwork (except for the one Tori/Gate photograph and the tribal wolf pawprint, those were me). I'll replace the KZ (and other questionable textures) with a fully Majik'd one once I have enough pieces together and I'm not still slogging through default bits (the KZ is built to use the Extreme Art Pack mod).
Let me know what you think!
Terrain Notes:
Most of the terrain texture come in three main flavors (I deleted the DB set):
--AE
--OR
--WC
They look similar enough to mix & match, but are mostly available for a unified theme.
These come in 4 color sets:
--Light
--Dark
--Light Purple
--Dark Purple
The thin framework for glass, glowstone and other similar textures come in FOUR flavors (which are hard to see on the editor):
--Brass Rivets
--CherryWood with brass corners
--Silver with brass corners
--Silver with ruby corners
Gemstone Blocks generally come in 2 main types and 2 sub types:
--Realistic / Crystallized
--Dark / Light

Seriously, I want to know honest constructive opinions (and feedback on bugs).
I build and test on two different machines, so sometimes there is a disconnect on making quick fixes.
It's a really good start, I like the stone and cobble, and the sugar cane looks great from the pics. But if at all possible fix the grass, from what I can see it's a little weird looking. The glass looks egyptian, and I'm pretty sure you wanted less egyptian and if anything more mystical, and I think the torches are a little overdone, if you got rid of the swooping part of them they would look perfect. I know thats alot of things to do, but I'm sure if you fixed that stuff you would do fabulous. Currently I'd give it a 6/10 but if you made it better i'm sure it would ATLEAST get a 8/10. to you!
I love how well you did, ESPECIALLY considering it's your first! From the pictures, I can already tell you that it looks great! One piece of advice: Possibly work on the Grass so it unnoticeably "flows" from block to block. XD
I made an update to change out the grass texture to something (hopefully) less quilt-like.
As for the torches, the 'tribal horn' is only one style of many that you can pick from.
I've got a full torch rework on my schedule anyway since there were some 'haloing' issues with some of the textures. So I'll probably wipe out most of what I have and start fresh.
Other updates -
Added a number of icons
Added 2 new window frame styles: Silver with Brass corners, and Silver with Ruby corners.
~Added a few icons/items
~Fixed (hopefully) the seizure-inducing speed of the lava animation (my first one! now I understand why they're so fricken long in the source folder...)
~Reworked the Crafting Table skins. It was one of my first textures (ever) and it showed... I do have additional skins that have the scuffed Celtic stone top, but the list started to get unwieldy as it was, so I left them out. If people want them added back, let me know.
Almost 800DLs, hopefully that means I'll get more feedback and suggestions!
Thanks for your support,
Hey, just wanted to pop in and say I saw your request on the Wolfhound thread! I'll get you some feedback when I have a chance to really go through and look at it, I'm kinda just dinking around online while waiting for a friend to come over, so maybe later this weekend. But so far, the screenshots look nice. Especially love the sun.
I've uploaded a new cloud file that should hopefully fix the tiling issue. (@Lucid - thanks for the shots, they help me a lot to see the problem!)
Smoke is still clipping oddly - but seems a little better. I'll keep working on it.
I've revamped the troublesome flowing lava texture and I'm just going to have to call it a draw on that fight.
Fixed the bow so it doesn't have the black frame around it.
Added the writable book texture in three colors: brown, grey and purple (I haven't tested it, so let me know if the arrows line up).
To Do:
Major - I still need to finish the rest of the mob skins (the ones i have are creepyish - thinking I might just officially make them clockwork gem creatures instead of living ones.)
Major - 'Still Lava' texture
Major - Art pack
Minor - rest of the pack icons and torch revision
Minor - Clay Soldiers support! I love this mod, even though I can't get it to work on my machine (I blame user error, )
I'm still here - just sucked into D3 at the moment (I TOATALLY guessed the twist at the end of Act3!)
I DID add a few more icons and little things, but nothing to get too excited over.
Shhh, yes I'm procrastinating about making the wolf and cat skins... (BTW, does anyone know who owns the semi-realistic HD animal textures? I might ask to use them for those who don't want 'creepy gem critters' . The Albion pack has the ones I mean, but it's not the only pack I've seen them in.)
The piston texture is next up, which shouldn't take too long since most of it is just other textures cobbled together.
Ender terrain textures are also relatively simple looking.
The humanoid skins will be a little more challenging. I have a good idea for the skeletons but just need to put them together.
If someone knows of a good creeper template, I'd like to see it. I have a texture I want to use, but I need to align it right to get the best effect.
Some answers to questions on the Customizer board:
Looks 'A little Cartoonish':
I've been more concerned with getting a consistent look (critters notwithstanding) than being overly worried about doing a purely 'realistic' or 'simple' pack.
This is not a remake or derivative of an existing pack (though I was inspired by bits of Thistle's Wolfbound set). I simply let the Celtic patterns and body jewelry bits tell me where to go.
Darker textures?:
I'm guessing you mean the stone textures (smooth, cobble, etc). I find darker stone is harder to see for longer distances underground - so torches are more effective with lighter stone. This might be cheap reasoning, but it works. I can build darker textures for those who don't mind and want a more immersive look (I'll use the same texture, just retint it so other stone components will still match).
Other tools/weapons?:
It might be an option later when I'm done with the normal textures, but I wouldn't get your hopes up. The designs were based on carvings I found that were in the right general shapes and then altered to fit. I tried to be consistent in making the wooden ones more rustic looking, and then getting more complex/advanced to the diamond version. Only a few of the textures had alternate patterns that I could pick from, so unless I find more carvings that fit the criteria - you're stuck with what I've got.
FUTURE PLANS:
I've been thinking of making a 32x Watership Down texture pack (I haven't seen any mentioned on any of the boards). That WILL most definitely be sticking to a predefined theme and will probably only appeal to a few LitGeeks and bunny lovers (and me!). Any lessons that I've learned from making Spiral Majik can't help but make the WD texture better.
I've been busy with work - but I managed to put together a halfway decent looking Stephanie and zombie.
Reworked the eyes on the Enderman so he doesn't look so much like the Cookie Monster and spiders should blink normally now.
Yay! More animals with less creepy eyes!!
Yes, I know that isn't a real Siamese cat pattern, but I like the grey and didn't have an official slot for it. I'll build a Siamese later once I'm happy with how the skin meshes.
Next on the list:
Pig Zombies
Dragons (maybe)
I have skins for the new emerald blocks, but the Customizer doesn't support those yet.
I'll work on building a stand-alone texture pack that will be more 1.3 compliant to carry us until the Customizer is updated.
Another update to add some 1.3 item - still working on Cocoa pods...
Most mobs are finished and have both gemstone and 'normal-ish' eye sets.
I have armor next up on my list, as well as a male avatar.
More feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Since there seemed to be a lot of grumbling about Ad-fly, I turned it off. I didn't get any money from the service myself, I just let it revert to help support the Customizer website.
Would you mind putting this file on mediafire/dropbox? the Minecraft Customizer Download servers can't handle anywhere near the number of downloads they're getting, so actually having the download work is rare.
