You loaded just the normal maps. You kind of need the textures for you to see anything.
Also, normal maps only work if you have your texture pack in the same resolution. I use the normal maps with my resource pack, and I only see the 128x normals on repeaters and comparators, since those are 128x. The default is 16x, and thus you see no normals either.
Why isn't default realism the main focus? It seems like it's more popular
It may be more popular, but it's also one year older. At this time being, it's not the most popular by downloads, as SR-512, 128, 64 are the most clicked resourcepacks the last couple of months. It's hard to judge something like that by downloads, as SR is being updated, while DR hasn't been updated the last 6-8 months.
Even though DR might be more popular, that has no influence on me. At the time being, I have way more fun creating SR, and I get to use more techniques and explore new ways to create high quality textures. I can clearly see progression in my work and in myself as the creator. I'd rather progress than stay static.

If I may ask, what are you using to make your normal maps? I've been trying to make normal and specular maps for DRx128.
The normal maps aren't nearly as nice as yours on smooth realism:
If you can't tell I'm more fascinated with adding specular maps:
I used something called CrazyBump. It's a simple program with easy navigation. You can also save presets and use a batching-process to convert multiple textures into normal and specular maps. At this time, I used Quixel, as that has far more options and is also integrated into Photoshop, which is what I already use to create textures.
Amazing work! I know you said you are enjoying working on SR lately, but do you know when you will be updating DR? It seems like simple things like the 2 new wood types, comparator, quartz, and redstone block wouldn't take too terribly long. Btw I'm loving the looks of SR! Awesome idea that not many others have done. My heart will always be with DR though haha. Again, beautiful work, thanks for reading
After all these updates, birch logs haven't been textured. Neither have wheat, carrots, nether stars, DIAMONDS (seriously?!), lapis, restone, pretty much all drops from hostile mobs except for ender pearls, and a whole lot of other items. but BIRCH WOOD?! why are you holding back on that one block?
I installed the shaders support for SRx64. However, after I put activated it in the resource packs, I didn't see a difference between having it and not having it.
For example, the Ore blocks did not shine the way they're supposed to
Also, the enchantment table isn't even retextured yet, along with bookshelves, so I couldn't test those. Will there be an update soon?
You have to make the specular maps. I've been doing this on mine using a program called CrazyBump. I've been using it to turn normal maps into height maps and apply it to the alpha channel for POM. I did something similar, with my own tweaks, to create specular maps.

Alright, just wondering.
I love the smooth textures and how realistic it looks.

But mother-of-god my RAM!! I have SEUS 10.1 with normals, clouds, POM, and wet terrain enabled.
x512 caused the game to crash from using too much RAM. I have 16GB. I was using 15.2GB, 12GB of which was on this game alone.
I had to keep lowering the resolution to x64 before the framerate was decent around 20FPS on my GTX 660.
Now I'm at 32, and I really don't care. I'm mostly concerned about the normal maps and specular maps. Thanks for your awesome work!

how did you do this?! I turned on spec maps and this didn't happen for me
