You guys need to read that Facebook post of UniBlue. I get where he's coming from, but it really could have been worded better. Or maybe not at all.
The piece would have been fine without that single sentence, which suddenly alters the entire theme of the post into "I love your feedback, and it's all great, but I'm not your h." It's a short jump to just telling everyone to shut up.
Few people think that every single suggestion will be adopted, so it just didn't need to be said. A simple "here's what I did with cobblestone" would have sufficed. You can continue to not-adopt any other suggestions in silence. Hell, that's what Mojang does, and we still have Squidward-villagers and horrible chunk performance.
Likewise when a project is abandoned so spectacularly, as this one was for so long, there should be an understanding of the possible fallout. I am not sure it was smart to come back after such a huge supporter blow-off, return without a bit of explanation, fail to rein in the now cascading problem of users posting their own additions and the first public statement of any importance is "I'm not your h." These two moves are absolute donation-killers. You come off as unreliable AND insensitive; who wants to give money for that?
Not that your point isn't right. But sometimes right things shouldn't be said out loud. (Probably like this post of mine.) It's just really, really bad timing.
And never, EVER start a post with "it has come to my attention." That's what bosses say right before they punish people for some nonsensical thing. It means someone handed you a memo that you wouldn't have bothered to read otherwise.
Moving forward, someone (UniBlue) needs to clean up this new mess of having everyone post their own contributions -- either by adopting them into the pack, or telling them why they aren't, or offering some alternative. Fans are spending lots of time working on elements that won't go anywhere, and just sit on their c-drives. That's yet another enthusiasm-killer.
And a more reliable release schedule couldn't hurt repair the damage.
Fans' love of a thing is not unconditional.
I believe we have a different vision on this project. After reading your comment, I had the impression that you look in my direction, viewing me as some sort of shoemaker who creates shoes, who's purpose is to sell as much as possible and by that, earn revenue. By selling enough shoes, the shoemaker would need to create shoes that have some sort of public demand. This pursuit of creating such shoes is devastating for how much money the shoemaker makes, and that becomes therefore the ultimate goal and focus.
My goals, my focuses are completely different. I am not doing this for money, nor I am doing this for popularity. I do this simply for progression and most importantly, for my self being, which includes having fun, feel a bit proud over myself or feel that I'm giving something to others without requesting anything back. The list goes on.
This makes your statement and question, "These two moves are absolute donation-killers. You come off as unreliable AND insensitive; who wants to give money for that?", unimportant to me. If you guys do not want to use R3D.CRAFT, then don't. I'm not going to cry over the fact that people choose to discontinue using this texture because they don't like the author.
Yes, I did leave this project hanging for far too long without an explanation, but that was because I truly believed that I was done with it (and I don't like to quit on something). I had other things that needed my attention, which was far more important to me (education, social life & work). Now that I again have more sparetime, the production of R3D.CRAFT continues, and it will continue for as long my time don't exceeds.
And so about the fan-made contributions. This is something that really truly makes me glad, and I don't agree with you when you vision it as a "new mess". I've actually unofficially allowed such to be posted, as long as it's only posted here, on my thread (in cases where parts of my textures are used, of course). And if people want to use these textures along with R3D.CRAFT, sure do, but don't expect me to open up my project and make it a "community creation". I won't add these textures to it, despite how good or loved they are.
To BigGrayGolem:
I'm grateful that you took the time to write this thoughtful and educational critic, but I'm afraid this won't help me that much, due to the facts described above. Your tips suits more a business model, and R3D.CRAFT is not a business or a product.
To you all:
I'm sorry, but I'm not your shoemaker, guys. I do this for me and just me. The only reason R3D.CRAFT is being published is because I simply like to share what I make with others and see/read their expressions.
Your feedback is important to me. Simply because sometimes you make realize things I hadn't wrapped my mind around.
- Thomas
EDIT: I posted this conversation on Facebook so that everyone who want, can have an insight and build their thoughts around it. Link.
Since I am someone that has made some textures I will post my thoughts. I made them for the fun of it since there isn't much to do here. I think seeing default is a pain when everything else looks different. I made some quick textures to fill in the gaps. I never expected for anyone to say anything. If people want to use them that's fine and if people don't that's fine too. I do think it would be good for uniblue to have an alternative folder like I did for the diamonds in his texture pack. You could have the previous textures there and let people decide themselves if they want to change it. Until then here are the previous textures if you can't get your hands on them.
If you need it in another resolution do not be afraid to ask. They are in 512x at the moment.
This makes your statement and question, "These two moves are absolute donation-killers. You come off as unreliable AND insensitive; who wants to give money for that?", unimportant to me. Just .. wow. I have rarely seen someone so tone-deaf to their own public perception. Well, Paul Cristoforo comes to mind, but we're not there yet.
You argue the point about being unreliable, and then you DEFEND your unreliability, and say you were "done with" the unfinished project, but you never bothered to tell anyone -- INCLUDING the ones who sent you money! For months people were messaging you, emailing you, posting on Facebook, and you just ignored them. You never once told anyone "I'm done with it." Good-hearted guys stepped in to add their own work to what everyone thought was a dead project, and now you come in and effectively tell guys like General "thanks, but no thanks."
Then you argue against being perceived as insensitive after taking their money, and repeat the position that you are doing this for yourself, telling everyone else -- again, including the ones who sent you cash -- to go fuc... er, "discontinue using it." Will you be offering refunds, then, if people do decide to drop your pack because they don't reading this impossible arrogance?
You want to contribute to a community, but on your rules. You don't want to make a "community creation" when that is exactly what you are doing. I hate to tell you, but you are in a community. Imagine if Mojang told YOU that, and shut down all texture pack authoring.
I never said you were in this for the money or to sell shoes. (Apologies to shoemakers out there, who apparently don't rank as high as Minecraft texture pack artists.) But you were collecting money. As soon as you do that, a whole truckload of new responsibilities is taken on. As soon as you took a donation, it became commerce, by definition. No one will accuse you of being Nike (you should be so lucky), but you also have responsibilities.
So, yeah, good luck with this approach. It's too bad, because as an artist you do good work. But if it comes at the price of having to hear self-indulgent, insufferable speeches that drop dump-loads on the people paying and who have loyally supported you, it's not worth it.

All donations that has been received is currently saved and will only be used for development of this texture. That is the deal about the donations. This can pay for copyright-protected textures I might need, texture programs like "Filter Forge" and possibly a website in the future. This is a give-give back system. It's made possible for the better of this texture, which these donors wishes for. If any donor wants the money they gave, back, I'll happily give it back to them.
The only reason I started to accept donations was because I received several messages from other people wanting to donate, but couldn't find any way to do so. And I restricted it and said the donations will only be used for the better good of this project.
The rest won't be discussed. All I've said, has been said with honesty, regardless of what you believe. Take that for what it is. This discussion is ended.

Ok dude calm down, Im not here to say whos right or wrong, but it isnt Uniblue's public duty to tell everyone he is going away whenever something occurs in his life that is more important. People dissapear all the time on the internet, simply because they lose interest or are busy. And he isnt even saying that he is shutting down alternate textures or added support, hell he said he thought it was cool and didnt tell anyone to stop. All he said was he wouldnt include them in the main pack, not that he would shut them down, and you cant hold him responsible for everyone else's textures that they send in. Made a texture? Cool, post it and people can share on the forum, just dont expect it to be in the main pack.

Just because you are in a community does not mean your work is suddenly owned by the community. Uniblue has his own product, that is his own flavor of TP and he is offering it to you free of charge to use. And hey, other people have some other versions of textures for you to use on the same forum as his TP free of charge. Uniblue isnt here to make the pack how the community sees fit or to please the community with his TP, hes a guy who has made minecraft the way he wants to see it and is sharing it with you. Telling him hes doing it wrong by not including everyones support work or listening to the community isnt changing anything. And hell, he released a statement on FB saying he was going to LISTEN and that he VALUED your word and had changed some textures because of it. Id say that was pretty friggin nice, and not a reason to tell him hes doing all wrong.
And on donations... They are donations. He isnt "taking" money, and hes not being payed. People donated because they liked the pack and wanted to support it, which Uniblue has decided to use that money wisely and only on the pack. Im surprised he offered REFUNDS on a DONATION, but again that just shows how he is willing to work with you, not FOR you or anyone else on HIS Tp.
Thats all Im gonna say on this. Thank you Uniblue for an awesome pack and for returning to work on it, I wish the best to you and your Tp
I have just read a few pages of this thread and theres a lot of fighting for some reason.
However, that is not why I am here. I want to ask 'where did the HD text go?' I am pretty sure that there was HD text back in 1.5.2 but now it's suddenly gone.
Using Latest Forge, Optifine, Magic Launcher and Ofc redcraft. What am I doing wrong? Was there HD text in the beginning?
EDIT: Upon further investigation after looking at some of my backup copies of Redcraft, I noticed custom font files, but now they are gone. They were made by d3fin3d and they look pretty cool. Is there a way to use his fonts and redcraft together?

The font was removed because there was a kerning-problem. It will be back. Hang in there!

It was removed due to some problems I believe. The font wasn't working properly but some dude over at the defined font thread claims to have fixed the problem. You can get it from there if you want it badly enough.
Edit: Didn't see uniblues comment..

Thank you for the Notch, appreciate it. Ive always had an eye on your pack and have been making some mod support for myself for a while. Just didnt like your return being greeted with such an uproar, Im usually not much of a poster otherwise. Keep up the awesome work man
Can't wait for HD Fonts and why isn't there Connected Texture support on this pack anymore? (With optifine)
if you're using the 256x version of the texture pack then getting the connected textures back is a simple matter of moving the mcpatcher folder into the minecraft folder, both are within the texture pack
I have just accepted an advertisement offer from a studio who seems to have great hopes for R3D.CRAFT. This agreement will change the way you have earlier downloaded R3D.CRAFT. Instead of waiting 5 seconds on adf.ly, you'll instantly download an installer (.exe file) that will download the texture for you and add it to your desktop. During the installation-process, there will be advertisements and offers. You will have to answer these offers before you can install R3D.CRAFT. There's more info about this on the thread.
NB! YOU CAN DENY EVERY OFFER GIVEN IN THE INSTALLER.
