This was posted on R3D.CRAFT's fanpage on facebook:
Seems like a longer post is required after all. Not that I am surprised by the reaction to this change.
As probably most of you know, the way of downloading R3D.CRAFT has changed dramatically. An installer has replaced the old adf.ly method. More information about this can be found under the download section on the thread: http://bit.ly/18DnwGG
Some comments I have received after this change:
"It takes longer to download!" - Yes, it might take a bit longer to download, although you are downloading from a new host, which features a much greater download speed. Unless you download a lower quality version, the time will roughly be the same.
"I don't want to install all the additional softwares!" - I understand and you don't have to either. There's always a way to decline the offers. The advertisers are just using a sly way of presenting the decline-option, something I know is silly, but that's how it is.
"I get viruses and trojans!" - This is not true. There are no viruses and no trojans. I have tested these multiple times and I have not recieved any virus or trojan alerts. The spokeperson from the Studio for this installer also assured me there where no viruses or trojans.
"Mac and Linux users can't use the installer!" - This is true, and I have made mirror links on the thread for those who would like to download the old way. This installer will be upgraded, though, and then it will support Mac and Linux users as well.
I understand your frustrations over this installer, but I have to think about myself as well. You are still downloading a 100% free texture, and you are now supporting me even more greatly by doing so. I accepted this offer and received this installer because I could not find a reason for why I I should decline. A reason that was good enough. It's safe, it's almost as fast as the old way, and you are not forced to accept any of the offers.
I have spend hundreds of hours on this texture. It's very pleasing to know you get something back in return. This helps boost my will of creating more and I might drop other things to make time to work on this texture. In other words, this might help speed up the production-rate of these textures.
Beware that the installer leaves traces of malware on your system even if you decline all offers. DON'T DOWNLOAD!
This must be one of the worst installer I have encountered. Hopefully the mods will step in and ban crap like this.
Did you download the 128x128 smooth version? Me and the studio who provided the installers detected a problem with that one. It will falsely alert you with a Artemis Trojan (read more here). This is unharmful, but your virus software will automatically look at it as a threat and remove the installer.
The link has been replaced with a regular adf.ly link. Sorry about the inconvenience.
Solimba would appear to be an advertising addon. The installers contain Solimba, because it is required to offer you alternative and additional recommendations for download and if you agree to accept the additional recommendation it will download and install it. If you decline the recommendation, no further details will be processed by Solimba.
In other words, it's clean. Feel free to read more about it.
You should probably remove all download links as malware is not allowed by the rules: http://rules.mcf.li/
I would definitely classify the installer as malware but I guess its up to the mods to make that decision. See the scan from Virus Total: https://www.virustot...sis/1375035894/
EDIT: Realized that the Uniblue I linked is probably unrelated
EDIT 2: Even if Uniblue is unrelated to UniblueMedia, Solimba lists Uniblue as a partner on its site. I find this highly suspicious and even if there is nothing suspicious going on it looks like it can be trademark infringement from UniblueMedia side. (IANAL)
I have no association with uniblue.com.
Solimba is an global advertising company and an advertising addon that has functioned since 2010 (read here).
That report you had only tells me that the installer consists of the Solimba appliation and an adware, which is simply a publicity software. No Trojans. No viruses. I have stated numerous times that I have tested all of the installers.
Since uniblue won't do mod support for some time it seems I will be doing some fan stuff. I decided to work on balkons weapon mod. This is my first attempt at a battleaxe.
I will be doing some random mods once I am done with this.

Malware and viruses aside. I understand that Tom from UniBlue would like the ad revenue from an installer, and it is a great idea.
However, it is not acceptable that in the process of simply just downloading the texture pack extra software/malware/bollocks/whatever is installed because it is not at all necessary.
That is just my thought, and I think others may agree?
Alright, then it's fine. You haven't suffered from getting a virus. It was a harmless file that virus programs detects as a virus. Nonetheless, the link has been removed and replaced with a regular adf.ly link. You can download it now, if you'd like
Thanks for screwing over everyone who uses this pack on a Mac (Mac's can't run .exe's without VMs) It'd be nice if you put up a download for the pack itself so that more people could use it.

Which resolution did you download? This is very strange.
