Work on this project has been paused. I will return, and it will be finished, but don't expect anything for a few weeks.
Hi all!
QUICK UPDATE: Extra, Extra!
Thanks to the latest version of MCPatcher and its CTM support, I am able to do something to the Nether that I wanted to do for a while. I will withhold the details, but you should notice the difference . Unfortunately, this means a bit of legwork on your end as I can't rationalise uploading the entire pack just for this quick fix, so download the patch zip, extract it and drag the contents into the main zip for my pack.
Needless to say, you need to use the new MCPatcher and enable its CTM support for this to work.
It is worth it, trust me . Here is the patch download: http://www.mediafire...o9vk7z1wb7x9zfw
Version 0.2 is now out!
This release includes some tweaks to the last version, plus terrain textures for Better Than Wolves mod by FlowerChild, as well as a few bits and bobs (signs, enchanting table's book, minecarts, boats, &c). Stone, cobblestone, gravel and all dependent blocks also have a terraincolour map, so change depending on biome (only four categories atm: normal, desert, frozen and mushroom).
This texture pack is very much a work in progress. It will hopefully be a (more or less) complete overhaul - colours and all - with as many animated blocks as I feel relevant.
For those that don't know Better Than Wolves, it can be found here.
This is my first texture pack (for anything), so I thought I'd make it 128x, to give me room to breath and learn . Apologies if this means you can't run my pack.
Installation - IMPORTANT FOR ANIMATIONS TO WORK
MCPatcher is needed to run this texture pack, and can be found here. Follow the instructions on that thread to install it.
If you want to use Optifine (for example, to use CTM which this mod supports), things are a little more complicated. Because this uses so many animations, it needs MCPatcher's HD Textures patch. There are instructions on the Optifine thread (foundhere) on how to install the two simultaneously. This can be found under the section titled "Compatibility with other mods", and basically involves deleting the "aaw.class" from the Optifine.zip, and using MCPatcher's HD Textures and RandomMobs.
Once you have MCPatcher installed, download my texturepack and put it in your texturepack folder, then select it in game, and away you go!
If you have any screenshots using my pack in-game, feel free to share them and I might well put them here (with your permission, of course!).
Two screenshots of a town, courtesy of Starshifterxen over at the BTW forums.
Plank textures and wood textures in 2x2 squares (4 blocks of each).
Left to right, top to bottom: normal planks, pine planks, birch planks, jungle planks, normal wood, pine wood, birch wood, jungle wood.
In 2x2 blocks, left to right, top to bottom: sand, smooth sandstone, hieroglyph sandstone, natural sandstone, snow and ice (2x1 snow, 2x1 ice), cobblestone, mossy cobblestone, gravel, stone, dirt, circle stone brick, mossy stone brick, stone brick, cracked stone brick, brick.
Stone wall with the ores in it. Redstone, diamond and gold are animated.
Wool Tower!
Crafting grid, sticky piston, piston, noteblock, jukebox. Jukebox is animated.
Two Nether shots. Netherrack, Glowstone and Soulsand are all animated.
A selection of BTW things.
Obviously that's not everything. But it gives you a feel for the pack .
If you like my pack, please support it by using my banner by using the code below:
I love how your nether set of textures has this living environment sense about it, though the eye seems a bit much when tiled over every available surface simultaneously, if only there was a way to make it a rare individual occurrence right?.
I'm only a recently released 32x author (I agree its exciting to finally contribute!) so I wouldn't think I have much to say of any weight but here's my unabridged impressions anyway.
Compared to the rest of your pack, the raw logs, glowstone, and gravel seem a bit too photorealistic, while the rest have a softer clean look. They look beautiful, but could be better matched.
The oak and pine logs do need some tiling issues corrected, but since this is an early peek I wouldn't worry about it.
The planks look great, really nice variation in pattern and shade, they look awesome for building, and seem to go really well together.
I really like all the animation use, though the nether texture did make me wonder if the repeated animation has any performance impact?
All the stone variants look very crisp and clean, though the mossy and cracked brick has residual shading that affected the brightness of the brick itself, producing the lines between them and the standard brick. The cobble however got this spot on.
The iron frame on your metals could use some kind of second border to avoid the contrast from the shine and shadow meeting in the corner.
You may have noticed I only mentioned tiling and matching, which is pretty much because on its own the art in every one of these textures is awesome and well designed for a 128 pack. Its also because I have no idea the difficulty of making such a high res piece, and feel out of place passing any judgement.
But I will say whatever your doing its staying far away from a lot of other huge res packs that end up looking terrible and seem forced into minecraft.
i seen the wood and wood planks and i was so exited about how good they look, then i looked at the other textures, and i feel like they are to simple and do not match the wood at all.
I love how your nether set of textures has this living environment sense about it, though the eye seems a bit much when tiled over every available surface simultaneously, if only there was a way to make it a rare individual occurrence right?.
My thoughts exactly. If I knew anything about coding, there'd probably be a way to make it so that there are two animations, and if you are standing on a netherrack block it would play the eye animation, and if not the pulsing one ... But I don't know anything about code. It may be easy or impossible to do!
It's funny that you say the raw logs, gravel and glowstone are too photo-realistic ... the gravel and the glowstone actually use a public domain image, so that explains those two. But all the others (logs included) I have made from scratch. I will do the gravel/glowstone properly eventually, but it's too twiddly without variation, will be the last thing I do, after mobs.
Personally, I don't have performance issues with the large amount of animated textures or the high resolution, but my laptop is pretty high class. In the end of the day, this is my first TP and so is for me more than the public, but I thought "why not share it", you know?
Yeah, the first two logs have tiling issues. Birch does too, but it is less noticeable. I will fix them at some point, but it's such a small thing compared to the vast amount of undone textures (I want to do mobs items etc and whole Better Than Wolves).
And yes, the iron frame needs fixing ... To me that's more noticeable by far than the logs, so may get fixed sooner rather than later. The gold one doesn't look too bad though, does it? It's just the three that use the same base outside :).
I'm downloading Sparkfire as I type, and will try it out and give you a message on your forum later today :).
Thanks for the in depth response.
nitromefans, I'm glad you are tempted to the dark side by my pack ;).
SupaSoaka, I'm sorry the rest doesn't meet your expectations. Knowing me, this pack will never be "finished", in that once I make a texture for everything, I will probably go ahead and tweak everything till the end of the world. (21st Dec? :P). So hopefully once I'm more versed in making textures, I'll be able to fix the rest of the textures

I guess what I was getting at is you need to nail down how your going to use the extra resolution, either to make all the edges really clean, or to add tons of detail. Seems like you went one way then the other.
The gold frame looks just fine, a slight tiling if at all. And definitely don't change a thing if its what you want it to be.
Also thanks for giving mine a try, and your entirely welcome for the feedback, I know its hard to get it out of people sometimes.
At the speed I'm currently working, there should hopefully be a download available for the vanilla textures by the end of the week.
That is, if I can figure out how to do the leaf textures.
*facepalm*.
Also, LimitForce, thanks for the mention on your thread
While i admit that i don't like most of your textures, you did seem to put some effort into it, which is admirable.
You should definitely redo the iron ore, it looks more like a smear now.
Other than that, i think the wood has tiling issues.
How come you don't like them? I'm just curious :). You can't please everybody :P.
Yeah, I need to redo most of the ores, but with the exception of tiling issues, I'm trying not to redo textures until I have done one for everything i want to - otherwise I will never get a completed project. I think to have a full download with fixes is better than waiting and waiting and waiting ... and waiting ... You get the picture :).
Haha, if I can work out how to do leaf textures properly, there should be a completed version of the terrain.png and its anims ready for download by the end of the week, and I can start on some of the other textures
- Dirt color is pretty good and realistic, but the grass part doesn't seem very good...
- Stone should be a bit more grey, no?
- Try to add animation to grass, wheat, etc.
- Wooden Planks are great!! But the wooden plank 5 is very weird...
- Why does redstone ore changes pink > red?
and well... . HOW CAN THIS BE YOUR FIRST TEXTURE PACK?! IT IS GREAT MAN!!
congrats!!
try to post it in planetminecraft, so it can get more views
Thanks, Ventils :).
The grass and dirt need a bit of work to get them together, as it were.
I'm redoing the stone and cobblestone (and cobblestone based blocks - pistons &c) as a matter of urgency, I just don't like those textures at all.
I think I might add animation to grass and wheat, I like that idea, thanks. But I also think I will leave it until I have made some headway elsewhere (mobs, items etc) before doing that. I also want to redo the wheat, it doesn't really fit.
Which wooden plank is it you don't like?
Why shouldn't the redstone change?
Thanks for the support!
I will post on planetminecraft once I am a bit further along, I think.
So the basic plank? What's your issue with it, the fact it is a solid block of wood rather than planky?
Meh, I guess, it was just because if you can change it, why not try?
Hrm, possible new stone texture, thoughts people? Yay or nay?

Might have a play around with the wood at some point, but I'm going to leave that until later. However, as stone and cobblestone are used as a basis for other blocks (especially in Better Than Wolves), I am trying to get those blocks sorted now.
How come you don't like them? I'm just curious . You can't please everybody .

Oh it's nothing personal, i just have a general dislike for packs above 32x I hate that grain effect that they have.
So to rephrase - it looks good, but it's just not my taste.
You might like to do a brick-like alt for the cobblestone. It's our basic building block after all, and the current one looks more like gravel.
Fair enough, Balduran :). I didn't think it was anything personal, I just wanted to know out of curiosity :).
Yeah, I agree, new cobble is closer to gravel ... But it's better than it was, and I'm happy with it like that until I have done sufficient damage on the other textures (mobs, guis etc).
Our basic building block? As I use Better Than Wolves (which this pack will have textures for), I throw all of my cobblestone into my crucible, to turn it into smoothstone (which I turn into stone bricks), which I then build out of :P. But yes, I know it is a basic and necessity for building. But as I said, I will leave it as is for now.
Thanks for the feedback
