Keeping with the tree made of dead tree parts theme, they're wooden beams held together with metal bands. Rotting at the ends due vertical ctm... and i assume some fungus or water or something was involved as well.

The flooring there is actually the log tops, since it's made of individual beams.
But yeah, it makes a little too much of an even pattern. I'm thinking of removing the metal bands from a few varients and giving them symmetry=all, which will make each block use the same texture for all the sides, even though it will still use random ctm to use a different tile per block. That way the bands still wrap around, but are more spread out.
I messed with the birch trunks a bit and made the metal bands a bit more random, and added a stenciled item number to help give the idea that it's processed wood.
I also did birch planks today.
I was going to do the repeat-vertical ctm as i usually do, but i was going with something much simpler. Just some rot at the top and bottom like logs have. So i decided to do the actual texture as just a regular repeat ctm, and then using renderpass 3 i added a vertical-repeat ctm overlay of rot.
The birch planks are old weathered wood with raised grain and flaking white paint. The floor of course has no paint and is a bit softer, because being walked on has worn it down.
All that's left for trees is redoing spruce planks, and oak leaves/logs. Oak planks are actuall fine the way they are i think. Spruce planks will probably just be simple diagonals. I realize the fancy super complex ctm looks neat, but it doesn't work for every purpose, so i want to keep half the wood types simple enough to use for anything.
As for oak trees, they'll be pretty much exactly the same thing the are now, except better. If i can find the .xcf i'll even pull out the random ctm bits and keep those, since they're fine. The log and leaf textures are just too smooth and simple.
The birch planks look amazing. Are you going to make a map to go with this pack? You have enough lore to make a entire adventure map out of it.
Yeah, i probably could. If i do one, it won't be until after i've added paintings, since those will be a bunch of really important decorative elements.
You're the best sort of person. You're on the list now.

Also, an update!
I redid oaks today.
Trees have been redone almost entirely. I did however keep all the random ctm bits i had stuck to the log, so those are still around. Much rarer now though.
The leaves are actually somewhat oak-like now, except they're red... so i guess it must be fall or something. I also messed with the oak plank texture. I like the texture i already had, but as it was, the 8x8 repeat ctm was just a massive waste of space due to the lack of real variation, so i made it grittier, and gave the planks some depth.
Here's a gif of new vs. old so you can really see the difference.
Also, something weird happened when i was switching between the old and new versions of my pack, and well... this happened.

I figured out the actual issue. I updated java. The installer cleared my old versions, but only installed a 32 bit version, so minecraft was running out of memory. Updating the 64 bit version as well fixed the issue.
So if you ever have that problem... that's probably it.
I went back a few pages from here and I didn't see anything, so I appologize if someone has already brought the issue up, but I'm having a bit of trouble with my nether portal. This one is a 3x3 the regular 2x3 displays just fine, it seems that anything larger than that has this issue.

Ah yes, thanks for reminding me. The texture i made for nether portals fit the 3x2 size exactly. The update of course broke that. I need to make a new portal animation in the next release.
Just curious, why is there an invisible cat in the screen shots?
One of the cat textures is animated to turn invisible. The tail and face remain though. It's a reference to the cheshire cat. Don't worry, it's visible most of the time. It's green, too.
I kept these simple and inspired by the old spruce planks i had before. Diagonal, with bits of metal holding the broken boards together.
Since there are 2 kinds of spruce trees now, the dark purplish burnt ones in the cold taiga, and the redwoods in the megataiga, i used colors from both.
It uses repeat ctm with random ctm over it to add bits of scrap metal nailed over holes and such.
I really wouldn't recommend building an entire house out of this one alone though, since it uses the same texture on all sides.

It's great for building as well.
looks like tatami to me.......
Bein' normal for suckers.

Keep in mind, the textures i've been posting recently aren't released yet. They should be out quite soon however.

Thanks for pointing that out. Now it's working again hopefully. That might explain why there haven't been any donations since 1.4 or so.
And hey presto! It works now. Merry BrokenEyemas.

I was worried it was my texture pack.

I could add some plank ends if that would help break it up. Right they're just really long planks...
