So Nether Quartz will be just an empty frame with the contents inside?
No. It will be a fully textured block, but textured to make it appear that the side of the block is missing, as though you are looking into a deep empty box.
I'm not going to do any ctm to make it single sided, since this would cause 5/6 blocks of quartz mixed into the netherrack to be invisible.
What i might do is just shade it to look like it has a trianglular groove, as though the box has dividers in it to make it open on each side revealing different content...
I was thinking quartz blocks could be like hospital floors, occasionally with blood on them, burn marks, and words carved on by a crazy guy.
Black and white tile... that's excellent. I want to do that, but i'm not really sure how well it would work... Perhaps for the quartz slab ill make a repeat ctm pattern so the tiles alternate.

That's the best idea I've seen in this thread so far, but what will the actual Quartz item be? I was thinking a circuit board, but I think it should be something that makes sense in making both Redstone stuff and the tiled blocks.
maybe it should be a circuit melted into a hunk of plastic? That way we could do the Redstone stuff with the circuit, then have slabs be tiles with the plastic, then have the Pillar blocks be computers. (I'm saying Pillars be computers instead of chiseled because of the crafting recipe. Two slabs for a chiseled and two blocks for a pillar.) Maybe the regular Quartz Block itself could be a big bundle of melted parts?

How does quartz fit in with redstone? Isn't it a building material?
it's used in daylight sensor & redstone comparator.
In such a case i don't think it's used as wiring, maybe as a reflector, or perhaps as an ocillator, since quartz can help stabilize frequencies (hence its actual use in clocks and computer chips)
Now that i think of it, it's going to be pretty hard to think of anything as versitile as quartz that isn't actually quartz.

Since I know know literally nothing about quartz IRL, I'm just gonna take your word for it. That thing about it being a reflector makes sense, we could just make it a hospital tile. It'd be good for the Quartz Blocks, and would work as a reflector for the daylight sensor. Then you could make the comparator a tile-y pattern
(I still think you should put something in for a computer though, it seems like it'd go along with some of the other textures in the pack.. Maybe a Redstone Lamp?)

The closest thing i have to a computer is the enchanting table/bookshelves (certain varients are analog computer banks) I could add a random screen type thing to it. I was thinking of doing something like a microfiche screen.

Yea, I was thinking of an old, sort of beat-up "held together with duct tape and gum" sort of thing to keep with the theme of the pack, a microfiche screen would go nicely. I mean you don't have to put it in if you don't want to, I'm just saying that it'd be neat.
I got an idea for Quartz
The ore could be a container that contains different containers of blood (for blood transfusion, stuff like that), the item could be a glass bottle with the blood inside, And the Quartz Block could be like the Blood and Glass were melted together, creating a light-brown glass-like material which could be used for building.

SectorC: Bringing the "fun" in "dysFUNctional" since 2000.
The use of quartz in electronics is typically due to it's piezoelectricity. Looking into it, there are various other common substances that are piezoelectric and could, in theory, be used in a similar manner in electrical applications. These substances include:
Topaz
Rochelle Salt
Tourmaline-group minerals
Sucrose (aka table sugar)
Bone
Silk
Enamel
Tendons
Dentin
Various ceramics
Maybe you could use some of these as jumping off points. I think that bone, enamel, and tendons might fit rather well with the "Medical waste" motif you've got going…
I finally decided on something for my nether quartz... blood and calcules (calcules are lumps of minerals that form inside organs, kidney stones, bladder stones, gall stones, etc)
They're in glass walled boxes... appearently the blood was originally packed in vials, but most of them have shattered.
Side view
I used fixed ctm to give them a logical top texture:
The quartz blocks will probably be some sort of muddy red and green marble-like material from smelting this junk together into a solid mass, box and all.
That's very cool! =)
But maybe it could look better with different textures for the top and the bottom where the top would be just blood visible in the glass and for the bottom, only the calcules would be visible in it. This texture you made does look very good, but I feel there are already many container-type textures in this pack.
It wouldn't make sense if the top and bottom were both glass though, notice how there's a sort of port on it? That's how the stuff gets in.

Bein' normal for suckers.
I think i love the Everything more than the tools.
What do you mean? The tools are the best part!

Logically my latest textures would be my best, since ive had the most practice up to that point.

Are you going to use the same texture for the top and bottom?

Retired StaffYep. I don't imagine both will be visible at the same time all too often.
