Glimmar does this with some of his mobs, actually. There are Creepers without heads and spiders where the torso has been turned into the head, for example.

its actually a pretty common method. in sommerfields there are short creepers and tall creepers, short ones just have their heads removed, and their faces on the upper part of their torso.
in the end is extremely nigh, spiders are legless worm monsters
and in... some high tech themed pack i cant remember the name of, skeletons were floating drone type things with only the head and arms textured.
anyway, i finally got my new computer set up and shall start texturing again soon, im just having issues calibrating my screen.
time for an update. ive not given up on the pack or anything, but... sometimes i might take a week or so break when something particularly frustrating comes up so i don't get burnt out on it and lose my will to continue. now, getting back to texturing... ive been working on this slowly for a few weeks. most of that has been experimenting, and figuring out what goes where, getting annoyed, and taking more breaks.
needless to say... whoever designed the minecart's texture map was very evil.
here's a preview of what direction it's going
the idea is that it's some sort of belt driven side wheel system that grips the track... like a roller coaster.
but... the track is flat, how could sideways wheels grip something flat on the ground?
aye! you shut up. don't question my lack of logic!
i did the boat. on the front is some water intake thing which somehow powers the... propellers on the back... and it's got a nifty red stripe, so there's that... seriously, this was hard to texture.
They're both great! =)
Especially the minecart (I love the bottom side )
Great job, I san't wait for it to be done! Gonna be my favorite texturepack. (Well, it is already)
the next test release is coming as soon as i texture the piston (and sticky piston)
Thank you very much, 13th, for making this pack. I think once it comes out, it would be very nice if you could do a 32x32 form of this pack. I think this is probably my second favorite pack. Sorry, but Atherys Ascended is just too good of a pack to give up my first place spot. XD
I have a few solutions for your tools problem Lets start off with each in order:
WOODEN TOOLS:
Wooden Axe: Could be a wooden plank with a sharpened edge.
STONE TOOLS: (Note, you may notice these don't exactly "fit in", as you said they were normal items repurposed for a certain task.)
Stone Pickaxe: An old hand-held nail drill with a jury-rigged battery and a sharpened stick for a nail.
Stone Axe: An electronic fan with all the outer casing removed and just metal edges sharpened so they cut wood. Include a handle, and a trigger with a bunch of wires leading frim it to the fan.
GOLD TOOLS:
Golden Hoe: A golf club.
Golden Axe: This was a tough one for me... A baseball bat, with the edge slightly sharpened, to make it a sort of triangular shape.
Also, i had an idea for the Golden Shovel: A lamp, which is pulled by the stand, and the cover pulls the dirt. Just a quick suggestion.
IRON TOOLS:
Iron Shovel: A long handle, with a bucket or some container at the end. The front of the container is covered with little springs, with spikes at the ends of the springs. A mechanism, hooked up to the springs, bounces them when activated by a trigger on the handle. There is a grate below the spikes.
The whole idea of the iron shovel is that the spikes soften up the dirt, which then passes through the grate and into the container. When the container gets full, the shovel breaks.
DIAMOND TOOLS:
Diamond Hoe: This thing is so useless that you might as well turn it into some random hand-held item, like a drinking glass or something. Although, if you absolutely MUST make a Diamond Hoe, you could have a little box, which is open on two ends. There is a grate on the front, hooked up to some wires. These wires are hooked up to a trigger on the handle, which when activated, sends an electric pulse through the grate, which softens the dirt.
Diamond Sword: A handle with a trigger, which is hooked up to a pice of metal in a rectangular shape. There is wiring hooked up to the metal and hooked up to the trigger. When the trigger is pressed, an electric shock is sent through the metal. So, it's sort of like a slicing taser.
you can't really see it, but there are gears inside which show through the metal grid. im thinking now i might make part of the metal grid be... missing. rusted through, ripped, bent, something like that so they show better.
for the sticky piston, i orginally had wanted to make it a suction cup... but shading one onto a square didn't really work too well, which is depressing, because i wanted something that would enable people to make excellent daleks. but no. gimp had other plans... now it's some sort of metal vacuum suction device.
I really like the idea behinde the ores. One thing is it would be nice to be able to tell what it is a bit easier. Possibly things like indicators like Put a diamond on a tag attached to the diamond or (scrap box thingy) or put a lapis somewere on the TARDIS. It would help people who are new to the pack. I like whats going on so far!
as for book cases, i wanted to do an analog computer bank type thing to work with the crafting table, but i want something that will work well for libraries...
so what ive decided on is a bit more random ctm. my bookshelves will be a mashup of actual shelves containing books, rusty scrap, and odd surreal trinkets, analog computer bits, boilers and valves... and cupboards of various sizes. there should be at least 5-6 textures. maybe more.
Always like pistons, especially designs that allow for use as alternative construction materials. They're particularly handy for hiding light sources, so being able to construct a surface out of them would allow for rooms that have hidden illumination. Thumbs up!
13th. What a great looking texture. Looks amazing. I am a big fan of the style you are working in. Keep up the good work. Hope to be able to run with it some day. I am running the Feed the Beast Mod Pack, so I imagine that running it now would leave all sorts of things kinda wonky.

i can't remember if i updated the screenshots, but i redid the diamond safe at some point to include a large crack with diamonds spilling out.
as for the tardis bit... how many deep blue ores are there?
anyway, the whole point was the make the ores not ores, but instead other things that had sunk into the ground.

light penetrates pistons!? i never knew that. i think i shall be able to do quite a bit with this information.

i do eventually plan to support a few mods in my texture pack. mostly extrabiomes xl and the minimap mod.
=======
and so the first bookshelf is done!
i plan to do more. my bookshelves will be part books, part cabinets, part junk, and part analog computer. random ctm.
weird how what was supposed to be a brain, that looked like a brain, suddenly looks more like a heart when wires were stuck into it. oh well. it's a brain.
Cool, It's gonna look so awesome in game! (Not that it doesn't already)
Are you planning on releasing it before editing the items?
it will be released in the next test pack. all that's left (unless im forgetting something) is the rest of the bookshelf varients, and a few tweaks to the redstone pipe texture.

plus it works as industrial flooring!
like it?
