but seriously, i doubt that anyone could hold a grudge if you just took a break and worked out problems at home
its not that sort of thing... ill just say this: the government has a thing for scamming people out of their houses lately.
in texture pack news: im getting nowhere due to tree problems.
i like how the birch tree came out, and i want to keep it, yet ive run into some issues... birch and standard trees share a leaf texture, but standard trees share their shader with grass, jungle trees, vines, etc. also, all tree trunks have the same top texture (wood rings, inside the tree)
figuring out how to make all this work together is becoming a real problem for me...
what im thinking of doing is just doing foliagecolor.png as a black to white gradient (or perhaps dark gray to white) so that standard tree leaves while being the same color as birch, will be a bit darker. this will just mean i have to use colored textures for things effected by foliagecolor.png (these textures are usually grayscale and colored in by the game) it won't provide so much for any color changes except for biome shading, but i don't think its a huge loss.
IMPORTANT PART, EVERYONE READ THIS: as for trees in general... to make things make a bit of sense, i might just do all of the trees as artifical tree-ish products. pine needles could be... medical sharps containers (those bins doctors have for disposing of used needles) unless this would be too much like my netherrack... ill figure it out. standard trees will just have a different style crate with different style labeling saying the same as birch: "planks, 4 cubic meters" and... i dunno, i was thinking of doing spiraled wooden hinge/spring-like things as rainforest trees, as an extreme seamless texture (the kind that tiles unusually well, but looks a bit odd placed as a single block) and possibly just doing a standard tree rings log top (as in, what every texture pack ever made has as the top for logs) since they'd all be different and need the same top texture. nothing really works for everything. but i would like any tree suggestions you have. maybe ill keep one or 2 as actual trees.
First of all personaly I want atleast one actual tree and secondly for the thing I said about the birch leaf colors instead of waisting time trying to make things work(trust me , I know how it works)What I was trying to say to you(except a bad story) is that you can have a diferent foliagecolor.png for birch leafs if thats helpfull to you. Also after I read your post a couple more times I finally ubderstood exactly what you wanted to say(nothing wrong with you I just realize things slower).Anyway I wanted to say that instead of using the globall foliagecolor.png which is for all plants you can use the ones that are only for oak and birch.
oak doesnt have its own shader. birch does, but oak takes on foliagecolor.png's color.
one real tree... yeah, i was thinking pine trees could be the real ones, since oak and birch share the same leaf texture, so its both are fake, or neither are. this would result in the majority of the world being populated with fake trees, since jungle and pine trees only appear in their own specific biomes (very common biomes though) and birch and oak are found in all other non-tree specific biomes.
so i ask you, thread watchers... what do you prefer?
i could change the birch textures to be jungle trees, and make pine trees another kind of false tree, but keep birch and oak as real trees...
or have the world mainly populated by fake birch and oak trees, and keep pine and perhaps jungle trees real?
or i could just make them all fake trees.
(or i could just ad alts in a texture changer so people have a choice, so this question is really about what i release it with and not what i add later)
I thought there was one for oak, too bad. But before I say(or rather type) anything I want to say that this pack is now a hot topic and it is above Sphax PureBDCraft I dont know if I helped this to be a hot topic because when Im interested in something I look it up a lot for updates and I look this up about 10 times a day.
Ok after the ramble I think you should make oak and birch real and pine and jungle fake. That way there will be two real and two fake trees. Also there will be a lot more real trees that way to show that the civilization before that was before you wasnt everywhere.
Edit: Actually it changes a lot but at this time its â„–1.
Edit 2: Remembar when I said that sand has too many toxic spots, it looks well with Sonic Ether's Unbelievable Shaders. They dont look too much and they're noticeable.
the greenness of the sand isnt toxic spots so much... its because i made wet sand, and i have green polluted water... i guess it is toxic spots in a way.
as for trees, i think ill just make some textures, then figure out what tree gets what texture later.
well, i dont plan on being homeless forever if it happens. its been postponed a bit, so if i can get a job before then i might be able to find a place to live and avoid it completely, provided i can find an affordable place or get 2 jobs. see, most apartments ive found cost more per month than minimum wage pays.
anyway... this is getting a bit offtopic.
the reason the water in my texture pack is polluted is because time got scrambled, and a lot of human creations were instantly decayed, and human creations are usually quite toxic, and this sudden increase in pollutants just... went everywhere. water absorbs pollutants because many dissolve in water.
Trees... screw it, i dont care if they are too similar. i can tweak them once the pack is released. ive been hung up on them for weeks, but... im just going to stop caring.
i shall make birch trees a more... yellowed paper, and ive made foliagecolor.png just grayscale, so i shall have to color in vines, jungle trees, oak leaves, and other such things manually, and the only variation over area they shall have is value (lightness/darkness) but thats fine with me.
here's the trunk texture for oak trees:
notice how the birch tree in the background has a different leaf color? yep. ill be lightening the leaf colors of both trees however, both are a bit darker than intended.
I can't speak for others, but I'm still here. I've got a lot of stuff keeping me busy at present is all. Between that and drawing a blank on tree ideas, I figured I'd just keep quiet for now.
I like your tree idea, ipel4. I could see it being tricky to pull off with only two textures (trunk and leaves), but there's probably a way to make it work. A steampunk cyborg tree sounds like it would fit right in here.
No, it looks even more stupid than you think. I dont know how but just random door hinges look cool to me(if they are door hinges).Im gessing enything you do will look extremely good.you have a talent. But about my tree idea I was thinking of it being rundown with torn cables and maybe the camera/eye is broken. Something like that. If you want I can send you an example texture of what I mean.
yeah dont worry... this tree's getting scrapped. i have the .xcif file, so perhaps ill re-use some of the hinges on something else though...
im thinking of just doing a regular tree bark texture, perhaps a rather burnt looking one, then having metal bands around it. the same concept really, but better. much better. and just one kind of metal banding, not random things that look weird.
although due to shading, im thinking of making this the texture for pine trees instead... i kinda forgot that jungle trees were double wide. anyway, its not a problem at all.
The first version of that texture I would actively avoid building with. The current version is much more usable.
I'm actually glad you put it on a jungle tree for the example... it lets me see better how the horizontal tiling works.
the first version was undeniably crap XD
as for horizontal tiling, this is going to go on pine trees i think, since its shaded as being for a single block wide tree, and i had wanted jungle trees to have a coil/spiral design. (it has to do with cocoa pods coming out being attached to these kind of trees)
so... to make tree textures more usable on walls, once i figure out ctm i plan to make the edge shading simply go away when they are placed so that they connect horizontally. when used in a 1x1 tower, they'll still appear rounded of course, but i just think its a small change that would make it a lot more versatile.
useless fact: this was actually subconciously inspired by sherlock's neat jacket
That looks a lot more like metal bands than door hinges. Also your pine planks also have metal patches and your jungle planks look more decorative and pretty. So if your going to make the pine tree and planks have something in common like that why dont you make jungle trees look more normal and pretty. Also just a reminder do the bottom of sandstone if yo havent yet. And you still havent mentioned that you did white, red and lime wool(which I still think is too bright).
i can't remember... did i leave those horrible red paneled planks in? if so, i gotta rip them out. and i need to re-arrange the plank types i have, and recolor the ones with the metal bits (i didnt like how yellow they were)
anyway, good idea. i shall figure out what tree is what, and make the planks with the metal bits go to this tree. and no, its not hinges anymore, it is just metal bands.
I just had an epiphany. Im going to make the leaf texture that I thought of and use it for the ic2 rubber tree leaf. Its going to be so cool(and ironic(I think)).
a spiral-y texture for jungle trees:
why i chose to screenshot a double wide one, i cant say, as this texture was meant for single wide ones... i shall CTM-ify it later i think. the texture does truly spiral.
but seriously, i doubt that anyone could hold a grudge if you just took a break and worked out problems at home
