Very nice.
It's too bad that this also leaves behind Optifine and Vanilla users, given Optifine steps on the extra renderpasses even when combined with MCPatcher, but I do still think this is the best option.
Edit: On that note, you might mention on the first post once the new version goes up that ores will be in effect invisible to Optifine and vanilla users. Either that or hack together a slightly compromised "non-MCPatcher version".
There is of course going to be a texture added into the regular textures folder, so the pack will still work for vanilla/optifine users, but there will be seams... well, seams for optifine users. For vanilla i'll make it seamless since it's just the one individual tile, but since optfine users will still get repeat ctm for the stone, it will have seams.
However, it is appearently possible to combine optifine and mcpatcher. Someone posted here a bit back about it, and had it working pretty well. I think you just have to install optifine first, then patch over it with mcpatcher, but have Extended HD disabled... or something like that. I should test it.

That's actually what I did.
It worked flawlessly except for render passes 2 and 3.
Emerald ore is done. I decided to alter the idea i had before a bit. Green glass was kind of a rediculous currency. Now it's more about what's inside the glass that makes it valuable.
Better glass is the feature that adds renderpass support.
I'm well aware. Optifine stomped on it regardless; it just wouldn't play nice. Either way, it's clear you've got a solution planned, so my suggestion is now academic at most anyhow - just wanted to make sure it didn't get forgotten!
That new iron looks damn fine. And the emerald does make a lot more sense now, too - I wonder how it got embedded in the rock without getting broken? Regardless, it lends itself to a good "block" variant too, a crate of booze.

I really like the emerald block i have now though. It's the only ore block that won't be changed.

That... Was a startlingly fast reply.
I don't actually remember what the present block looks like, which is primarily my fault - I haven't played Minecraft in awhile, and my Survival world I haven't amassed enough emeralds to make a block. Even so, I quite like the pack as it is now, so I'll trust it's pretty decent.

Yeah, it was done long after the rest of the ore blocks, which meant it turned out a lot better.
Love that emerald ore! It brings a whole new dimension to searching for emeralds...in fact I'm getting thirsty just looking at those bottles, but such a pity they're not real! All I need now is a hip flask and pick and I could happily live for emerald ore hunting...hic! Lol, have you considered what an incredible vintage they're going to be after mellennia fossilizing in the rock?
By the way, those other ores you've done so far are much improved over the originals...well done!
Mojang certainly have a lot to answer for, casually slipping in some innocent rocks, causing everyone to virtually start over with all their basic textures.

In my case i think it worked out pretty well considering how horrible my original stone was.

Well, I for one would've tolerated holes in the texture sheets. It's awesome enough I was willing to put up with broken acacia and dark oak when I first DLed it, having 1.7 while the pack was 1.6.

Well, by time 1.8 is out, hopefully i'll have this release ready. I'd like to release the stone overhaul alongside the 1.8 update, but if 1.8 is out too soon, i might not be able to do it. Well, it might be a little while after 1.8 that i do this release actually. I won't be putting it out there until mcpatcher is fully updated to 1.8, and since snapshots are not quite the same as the actual release, theere will probably be a bit of delay there, so not even i will be able to fully test it until then.

I myself tend to wait until my favorite stuff is updated to update myself, so. I won't notice any disruption at all. I'll admit that I didn't complain about the holes, though, because until recently I was chicken to make ANOTHER account somewhere, to the point where instead of making an account here to whine about the portals I sent my friend to whine at you on Reddit about it.

Well, it worked. Actually, it was the guy who messaged me on reddit that brought it to my attention. I think i know exactly who it was, too. Well, again anyway. I knew about the issue but completely forgot about it.
Even though my pack is pretty much complete, and nothing's vanilla anymore except for some of the paintings, it's still a WIP. A lot of stuff is getting redone or broken by game updates.
If you find an issue, feel free to complain about it. I won't be offended, it actually helps me. I'm probably going to miss a few things in every update. I do test my textures, but somehow something always gets by. I actually rely on people using it to test it fully for me. So yeah, if you ever encounter any issues, let me know. Evem if there are any textures that you absolutely hate, let me know. I may very well agree with you. It may very well be something i need to redo and just forgot about.

Heh, the only things left that bug me are how the tools are all made, but their appearance and languagepack term implies they were found. Even that isn't really a complaint, it would drastically alter the gameplay if this were changed, and I'll be honest, feather + stick + sparkplug = bullets is appropriately surreal to the rest of the setting.
I have to wonder, how did the new emeralds get embedded in the rock without breaking? I can see slamming a chunk of metal into it while largely preserving the metal's shape, but it just doesn't seem to make nearly as much sense with bottles of hooch...

I suppose it takes some rather... creative reasoning.
For example, perhaps the sparkplug's metal components are refined for the casing, the porcelain bit could be the projectile's core, the wood could be fermented and refined into some kind of explosive charge, and the feather could be used as some kind of packing material.
As for the booze embedded in stone, well think about the pack's theme. Some sort of time related catastrophy occoured, where time flowed differently in different areas. Perhaps milenniums of dust and dirt that settled on these bottles formed sedimentary rock around them. As for how the bottles were unharmed in that process... well, that's good craftsmanship for you, i guess.
A lot of it is a bit of a stretch, but everything is more or less explainable... usually.

I suppose that makes sense. Sparkplug and some steel makes a zippo, though, now I'm curious... Where's the fuel come from?
Like I said, the whole thing is already really surreal; hovercows, observers, spinechickens and whatever sort of quadrupedal suicidal sociopath you've made the Creepers into has already made it some kind of glorious Burtonesque nightmare. This detail is no more dreamlike than the others.
also, "good craftsmanship" my ass. I work around booze, a lot of those bottles are thick as all hell. There's a reason they see use as weapons in bar fights - the other guy's skull will break before they do.

Retired StaffRebar, obligatory gears to make it steampunk, an old rusted out revolver, and some of the bits the iron tools are made of.
