Birch tree. (species subject to change due to birch and standard trees unfortunately sharing a leaf texture)

my idea was... focusing more on the surrealism aspect of my pack. planks, paper... dead trees. this tree is made of planks and paper, rather than living wood and leaves. it is death imitating life. an undead tree.

indeed it is not. ive been applying to temp agencies since they seem to be the most likely thing to hire me, and ive been trying to see if i can get a whole bunch of college grants at the same time, then use them to go to a college that has dorms and food tickets included in the tuition (many do) since id like to be able to go to college anyway, but have been waiting until ive gotten a job and saved up enough for the first year at least before starting. now that's obviously not going to work, so i shall exploit some grants if i can, and turn a very bad situation into a good one.

but yes, i have been working my ass off... and sometimes not.

its strange, i find that sometimes ill do nothing all day even when i intend to, then go and do over a dozen in one go. i completed over half of the construction materials in one day.

I grabbed test pack the third a few days ago, and just now got the chance to look at it. All the new textures seems fine, they tile well, no brightness issues, etc. There are no glaring problems, though I don't have time to look at every tiny detail. However, two things bother me:

1. Is the moss stone intended to be smooth stone covered in moss, or cobblestone covered in moss? It doesn't quite resemble either, so its a little odd in dungeons.
2. The sandstone is a little monochromatic for my taste. The smooth sandstone and the hieroglyphics block are fine, just the natural stone. As discussed above, some striations in the rock might enhance its appearance.

I really like the eyeballs as lava particles. Nice touch!

1. yeah i dont really know where i was going with the moss stone... what i had in mind when i made it was something id seen camping once. there was a large buried rock with a flat top even with the ground at the edge of some water. it had an uneven, yet smooth and flattish surface. it was covered in moss. so i figured id go with a semi-lumpy stone with some moss. does it not work?

2. it does have striations. i could add more though, or... more contrasting ones. i have it saved as a .xcf with a base texture, and the shading on top, so it would be easy to change, but its really a choice between obvious tiling (not seams but easily recognizable patterns) or contrast. ill definitely mess with it a bit, and optional textures are always nice.

i actually added the eyeballs in the lava as an easter egg for the testers of the nether release XD i was going to remove them, but yeah, they are kind of fun, arent they? i want to make them smaller though.

i want to keep them for birch, but i need to figure out how to make this work for normal trees too...

i can either... make normal trees have something similar as a trunk...

make the leaves/trunk for birch into jungle or pine trees (i dont think the color would work well for them though)

or... well, not sure what really. ill figure something out.

the undead tree already is the birch tree, actually.

and i was intentionally making moss stone not just mossy cobble, like just about every pack. i want as much variation as possible, as i get bored easily with too much of the same thing XD

some extra striations would simply require a overlay layer that wont take but a minute. ill add some once i finish the 4 textures i currently have open in gimp. (i should really learn to work on one thing at a time)

my mushroom related textures.

the large brown mushroom is vaguely based on a portobello mushroom.

the small form of the brown mushroom ive made into some sort of ground water valve, because i thought it would be neat. sometimes ground water valves such as this get full of fungal spores when disused for so long, and once the fungi eat away at the material, they escape and grow giant. yep, tied up the loose ends there, that easy >.> it works because i say it does!

as for the red mushroom, i made it a morel. in the large form i went for a somewhat mutated morel.

mycelium has a fancy moss-like lattice patter on it which is just barely visible... im thinking of making it a bit darker, since it was a whole lot of work and you wont notice it unless you look for it.

thoughts? anything i need to improve here?

well, i could try scaling it down once i finish, which might or might not work well.

however, try updating optifine to the B1 version (or whatever's newest now) as it works a lot better than the A versions. also, reduce your render distance, and make sure your browser is closed when playing minecraft. i find that if firefox is open, minecraft lags tons for me.

however, i have some ideas for future minecraft texture packs i might make at different resolutions. one of which is 16x...

anyway, if you aren't aware of it already, there is a very good 32x steampunk themed pack already. its not much like mine at all, but still, steampunk and quite nice, if that's what you were looking for: Glimmar's Steampunk

well, if you want, perhaps i could give you some advice. do you have a WIP thread with screenshots?

i dont really have a method, every one is done differently
