I'm thinking the top design would be better for the glass, as it has more open space and thus has less chance to obscure the view. The bottom one would be just about perfect for the redstone lanterns, though.
Alternately, you could use one for glass, and the other for the glass panes to allow for a little additional patterning variety on windows.

is there a way to seperate glass from glass panes? blocks and panes use the same slot in terrain.png.

I'm not a texture artist, but I did a little research by switching through a half-dozen or so texture packs. I'm guessing there isn't, or someone would have used it in one of them. My apologies for asking for the possibly impossible.
Is this the original color ? Or is there some colored light ?
I don't like this texture. Color, shape and diagonal direction. With or without metal pieces. It doesn't look like wood planks at all IMO.
Hmmm I sound a little mean... but I'm not XD

i was using fill light. i suppose its not an accurate representation of what you'd see in the game... but fill light simply makes each block evenly lit with the brightest light possible. its part of the single player commands mod, which i use for building my test map. im sure it looks better with a proper lighting gradient... but now that i think of it, i think the cracks between the boards is a bit deep.
the shape is gonna stay! i like diagonal planks. and dont worry, this isn't the default planks. (as in, ones from those common trees you see everywhere) the last ones i posted are. the reddish brown ones with nails... should be on the last page. i just wanted 2 types of planks that would work for flooring or walls, and the other 2 shall be paneling that will look weird used as flooring, but great on the wall.
Great texture but it doesn't seems really good for walls IMO. I've never seen such pattern on walls IRL neither, but always on floors.
Maybe if you make deeper "cracks between the boards".
Or / and maybe it's too flat and just needs some more relief to be put into hmmm... you know, bigger bricks, I mean, that have more relief.
What I said sounds weird, I hope it's understandable. I often use an online traductor, maybe it's not really accurate,
That brick texture patterning would be great for flooring and suck but would be bizarre for walls, may i suggest you repurpose this texture into another block

figuring out the exact dimensions to get herringbone bricks to tile was... increadibly hard. i wont be changing the size, because its impossible to just knock a few pixels off and still have it work. id have to change the size by half. but ingame they do appear about the size you'd expect of a brick. this is a close shot.
i could add a bit more shading between them though.

i might, but... herringbone brickwork is used for walls in victorian style buildings.
i think they do it a lot in italy still... never been there myself, but i like to read about other places... national geographic has pictures.
you see it a lot in things like wine cellars, actually.
I suppose it's time for a third classification, then... how does "awesome" sound?
(In other words, I like the iron.)
me too... ive inspired myself to make engine type things. so i went on all the servers i use and stuck engines on things. lots of servers. lots of things.

adding metal patches to hold them together, as if they were falling apart at the seams.
tried it with and without the metal patch things.
thoughts?

but i could definitely tweak the colors a bit.
i think these will be birch...
for brick, i went with herringbone. ive never seen it done before... but i can imagine why. this was insanely hard to calculate.
thoughts on this?

ive spent nearly 3 days on iron block. i hope its worth it...
extremely gritty patchwork metal.
i rather like how this came out. what do you think?
took most of 3 days. probably a record for a 64x texture.
It love the tiling, and it fits well with the pack! I would rather a very nice tiling pack then a realistic that does not tile at all, in my opinion.

you might want to have a look at that ship...
someone requested i do some white/gray faded old planks... i figured id do them for birch... which i realize isnt white on the inside, but whatever.
