OMG, soul sand ? great texture.
I see just one tiny drawback about it, when you walk on soul sand it's like walking on sand, not distgusting viscera, sadly.
It looks so good though...

soul sand slows you down more than regular sand...
i have an important scientific experiment for you, jdwarfer.
go to the local butcher, and see about getting some rotten innards. tons. they will probably be free. fill a room with them, so the floor has a nice thick coating, and see how fast you can walk. if they slow you down a bit, this texture is a success! if not... perhaps ill rethink it
id do it myself, but ive gotta get busy on obsidian so i can release the next test pack soon.

Doh, I talked about the sound of it... XD I agree for the slow down though
A screenshot from our local instance of the nether:
Wonderfully hideous!
I just checked over the torches as well. Definitely unusual... I'm now wondering where they came from. They're a little distracting at first, but I could get used to them.
I think this is shaping up into one of those packs that you'll want to build an entire world around with this in mind, rather than trying to apply them to an existing world.
Editted Addition: I just took a close look at the obsidian.. beautiful work!
Im getting it now and how much more is left to do?
Because i can really see myself using this a lot also im going to be doing youtube videos soon within the next few months and i will definatly giving you some credit becuase i will probably use this pack

interesting fact: i spent nearly a whole day on obsidian, didnt like the result, deleted it, then made what you see ingame in 10 minutes, which i actually liked quite a bit.
i do plan to do a bit of map building too, once i finish. more than just the test facility included with it, and even that is a WIP, i have the whole thing roughly built, but i do all the finer details to the part im releasing right before i release it. so basically, all the parts you are meant to visit, are completely finished. anything else... maybe, maybe not.
the torches... were sort of tesla inspired. the glowstone was edison inspired. 2 great inventors, i just wanted to add some references to them. i realize neither actually looks like anything they've invented, but... hopefully its similar enough so that the reference is understood to those who are looking for it.

a lot. im probably about 1/5 of the way done with terrain.png, i have some particles and one mob. in total... 15% done id estimate.
if i had a tablet, id be getting this done tons faster, im trying to get up enough money for one.
but... another big problem is my lack of ideas. suggestions for anything not yet done would be great.
ive updated the download link, its gone from 36mb to 7mb. all the content is still there, i just trimmed off everything that's redundant, and used higher compression.
which is better? the full color one, or the patchy weathered looking one? what i worry about is that it looks patchy, rather than weathered. or is this wood too patterny? i wanted to make it look old and stained, but not sealed, with deep grain. is it too much? honest opinion.
at any rate, i want to include sequoias as one type of tree, since they are my favorite kind. probably jungle tree, as they are the tallest. this reddish wood will come from those.
i couldn't find the texture pack i always wanted... so im making it
I want to make one too but it's a pain in the ass. So much to do... and not enough talent or ideas. XD
I prefer the first texture, full color, not the patchy one. That could be a nice default wood plank texture.
And do you plan to make the other wood texture the same but with just a different color ? Or completely different patterns ? Personnaly I prefer the same texture for all but about that pack, I think you could make really nice different patterns. One for walls, one for floors, one for ceilings... That the point of making different patterns IMO, for different uses. There are a lot of really good packs but I'm always annoyed about the wood textures being different but with no particular use for it, or the same but that don't match for anything, floors or such, or just for ONE use. Most of them are nice for walls but when I put them on a floor it looks weird.
The vanilla planks textures are maybe too simple and same for all colors, but at least they can be used for everything.

i plan to do only these 2 as paneled. the other 2 will be planks. perhaps one will be diagonal, the other will be vertical. both will work for either floors or walls. but yeah, these are a little weird as flooring id imagine... i was planning on doing wool as various types of tile and wallpaper, and perhaps a wool texture too in different colors as an option for those who prefer wool to be wool.

all i need to do still is fire, netherwort, and a few particle effects that should only take me a few minutes.
the best part is, i already know what i want to do for these textures, and lack of inspiration is the only thing making me slow.
anyway, today i did soul sand, obsidian, and the portal animation.
Doh, I talked about the sound of it... XD I agree for the slow down though
well, ya never know... there could be some sand under them somewhere.
want to test it? This time it's open to everyone, since so many people showed interest in it the last time.
so here you go. download it, try it out, and give me feedback on what you thought.

nether texture preview... get the test back to see it in person, most of these textures are animated.
Wonderfully hideous!

(just unzip it, youll see)
how about this for default?
and the reddish wood shall be this:
