This simple texture pack is a fix for diagonally placed rails, to improve the appearance. This does not change the overall look of Minecraft in any way. Diagonal railways (at 45* to the normal direction of rails) become straight when using this texture.Note: The existing Minecart mechanics allow rides on diagonal railways to be perfectly smooth and properly diagonal. This is a feature of existing Minecraft code, and does not require a mod.

The only caveat of this texture is that single-curves in rails look odd, but otherwise it is great for diagonal railways. This is my first texture (fix) pack.Download: http://dl.dropbox.co...nal%20Rails.zip

Now updated to Minecraft 1.2.5!
Many apologies for the delay, I had temporarily forgotten about this project. It is now updated. It has come to my attention that this is not original; I have seen similar effects in other texture packs. However, this is a vanilla-styled version, for those that want vanilla graphics but better rails.
Nice! I think it''s a great idea for like videos, effects maybe? But the only problem is that you still get the effect of turning a lot, while it seems you're going straight.
Actually, there is no rapid turning effect, in my experience. There is a slight bit of 'smoothing' to the movement on rails, and this is enough to make diagonal rides perfectly smooth.
Actually, I JUST noticed that. I will fix that. As for failed rail connection, I can't really see a way to fix this, without modifying the straight track which may make straight track appear strangely. I will try to find a solution.
Edit: Found a solution for railroad ties not connecting properly. Editing now.
I fixed the shading and connecting to straight rail problems. Fixing the shading is not as simple as using one light direction. That is what I did, which caused the problem. When zig-zag rails are rendered, every other rail has the texture rotated 180*, so I made the lighting omnidirectional.
I will fix the screenshots when I find time to, so re-download to see the changes I made.
I am looking for someone to be able to do a video demonstration of this texture. I think a lot of people don't believe that the traveling will be smooth, even though it can be easily tested and proven.
I am considering making a version where the diagonal rails look exactley like normal rails but just rotated, so there would be no pixel stepping appearance. However, this would require the pack to be HD. What do you think?
I keep it updated for those who do use it. Your claim that nobody uses it is unsupported. If you have performed a scientific study that shows that this pack is never used, please share the results of this with me. Otherwise, go away and do not spoil it for those who use it. I am not claiming anything creative here, I am simply providing a fix for a common Minecraft annoyance.
I was not aware of this. I was reposting as my thoughts came to me, but I will edit in new thoughts next time.
Back to topic:
I will make multiple versions as suggested.
Gauge changing - This is purely unavoidable, without making straight tracks not connect whatsoever. My goal with this pack is to make it work as well as possible without requiring a mod.

Maybe make 2-4 versions, 64, 128, 256.
But try to keep Minecraft pixel style, dont smooth something.
PS: Did read it to late

Curse PremiumIt's like standard gauge suddenly shrinks to narrow!
