I plan to create my own 16x16 texture pack soon, but I am loaded with questions. I thought I'd disperse them all to you.
- How do I make it so that I can put my texture pack in a zip file or whatever so I can put it in the texture pack file in .minecraft? Before I had to simply drag the terrain.png into MC.jar and I don't know how to see it otherwise.
- What all do I have to edit to make a complete texture pack? Do I just have to do the terrain.png and what about everything else in the jars that come with texture packs?
Is there anywhere I can read an extremely simple guide that helps me from step negative one to finish?
Use something like 7zip to compress the files into a .zip. (http://www.7-zip.org/)
Anything that is a .png file, or looks as though it could be used as a texture in the game should be edited.
1) You make a .zip and then you edit your terrain.png and put in inside the .zip, then you put the .zip to texture pack folder in minecraft.
2) Terrain.png, GUI, and all other visual components just look em up.
A good place to start is to extract your minecraft.jar with something like WinRAR, and deleting anything that 's related to the games code. (which means everything that's not a png / contains a png) and do all your editing and whatnot, add a pack.png and pack.txt to the root folder and compress all of those into a .zip.You can edit the terrain and drag them back into the .zip if you want to update them. Just don't do it with MC running.
Also, I assume you know this, but make backups of EVERYTHING.

Any answers are appreciated.
