I downloaded and used the Mincraft texture pak editor to change the look of the sandstone blocks. But I also want to change the cobblestone stairs to use the smooth stone texture, but I can't figure out how to do this in the texture editor. My guess is that it's not an issue of changing the texture, but changing what texture the stone stairs uses. Is there a way to do this that isn't too complicated?

change the way cobblestone looks to what you want ..that is the only way I know of

Some items re-use textures, like the fences use the planks/netherbrick texture, but the cobblestone also "wraps" around the cobble stairs, so you would have to sacrifice the cobble in your pack just for cobble stairs, i wouldn't suggest using that technique unless you need a custom tp for an adventure map.

This would require modding the game code... but it shouldn't be too hard. Do you know java?
