Don't worry dude it's not a stupid question, glad you asked. What your gonna need to do is install what's called "MC Patcher" http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/232701-12w19a-125update-55-mcpatcher-hd-fix-236-03/ and what this does is enables you to run higher res texture packs... If the texture pack is still black screen then backup all your worlds so you don't lose them and completely uninstall everything minecraft and reinstall it and drag your world saves back in so you don't lose them...don't worry I've had that issue many many times man!!

My pc wiped all of my up to date source code (for my mod) once and i had to revert back to the original mod and re-add all the blocks i had added (from 2 - 3 blocks up to the current at over 10 ish?) This was like going from Mc version 1.10 all the way back to beta 1.4.

Yeah man I've already made a version of the items but the issue I was dealing with was how to recreate them without people getting confused and having to read what the item is...with many texturepacks I've noticed how people make the items and you don't know what the heck they are and that's the challenge I'm facing due to having a sort of clean pack.. But yeah man I'll be working on it

The autumn version has been out for quite some time, and as of winter.. Not sure due to the fact a winter style texturepack is extremely difficult to the lack of customization to biomes etc but who knows..
