You should adjust the non-pixel art textures in this pack to look less pixelated. Touch up the doors and the furnace, and the few others. You're too much of a professional to state your pack is "99 percent pixel-art."
I feel like if you narrow down the total color count on this pack, and redo some of the overly dark textures, this would become one of the top pixel-art packs on the forum.
There are some textures in here that are just so good, that they are placed at a disservice by being included with others. I think your plank textures are well done in their shading; so fix the crafting table because it's the only one wood tile that looks out of place. Your stone textures on the other hand feature a grain that works on some and does not work on others. Your side grass and grass top could really be re-done; you are capable of better. The dirt looks good in game, but I think you should play with new designs. Lastly, your bed, flower textures, ores and ore blocks, as well as your furnaces and doors - just fix the color overload - are pixel wizardry. They are truly wonderful.
Add in what is not finished for the terrain, specifically the hoppers and the command block, experiment with CTM and Biome Coloring, and bring down the crazy dark wood log textures, and this pack would reach the glorious spot on the pixel-art pack ladder that it deserves.
Please Steelfeathers, you are my only hope! That was kind of a Star Wars reference, but not really, because I am totally serious!
Anyway, consider what I'm saying, judge my critique, and work on this. Dandelion is simple pack greatness, and I believe this should be up there on my so-called "pixel-art ladder."
I did some quick-and-dirty edits for some of the new blocks introduced in 1.7. Everything but the flowers and fish are done, to varying degrees of attractiveness. The acacia blocks and tallfern are... not very good, but I tried. They should work as placeholders at least.
Not sure how good the podzol will look, I haven't found the biome that has it yet.
Here they are. They all go in assets/minecraft/textures/blocks.
Steelfeathers, if you want me to remove this, let me know!
I noticed on your Dandelion thread you said that you haven't played minecraft in over 4 months!
Does this mean there won't be an official update on this pack?
If not, does someone need to unofficially continue it?! *hint hint*
Oh yeah, I'd like to see an update for this Steel since this is one of my favorite packs. However, if you're not feeling it and/or are busy with the upkeep of your other many texture packs, that's okay as well.
Just expressin' my interest to let you know that there are still fans of this pack too.
Yeah....sorry guys, I probably won't be updating this. The only thing I'm really working on texture-wise is Dandelion (and perhaps Riverwood once mojang fixes the mapping bug), and a super-secret project that may or may not make it to market.
Both FeatherSong and Enchanted (my other pack people keep bugging me about) are really about 1-2 years old at this point, and the difference in quality between what I did then and what I can do now really shows. I actually grimace when I look back at some of the textures for this, and I'm just not up for completely revamping the old stuff on top of making new stuff.
I may come back to this pack at some point, but I probably won't. Just letting everyone know.
Oh, that's a shame. Still, I understand. Thank you for commenting about what's up with this texture pack and thank you for all the work you've put in this pack and all the packs you maintain.
I don't want to guilt you or anything, Steel, but I wanted to say that I thought this TP was pretty dang awesome. Its whole aesthetic was just very appealing to me; it was warm, rustic, elegant, very lovely and filled with quality work. I hope that even if you do not come back to this, you'll start another pack very much like it.
In any case, I do look forward to any more work you put forth.
Sad to hear that these two are done now. They are my favorite. Thank you so much for making them though! With the new feature in 1.7 where you can have multiple packs, I will just continue using them and let others fill in the empty spaces.
If you do decide to stop work on Riverwood, I hope that you let us have the incomplete pack, as we can do the same with it as well.
Thank you for making minecraft a more beautiful place to be!
I would be up for continueing this if you approve Steel.
Ill try bang out some new textures to bring it up to 1.7, if that goes well we will know if i'm good enough to take the reins!

Sure, let's see what you can do. Post any textures you make here when you're done.

Riverwood is....an enigma, at this point. On the one hand, it contains probably the best HD textures I've ever made, I love the beauty of the aesthetic, and it's probably my best shot at solid portfolio work if I ever want to apply for a job as a texture artist somewhere. On the other hand, each texture is a small nightmare to paint, and it relies very heavily on the CTM features available in MC patch, which can make it difficult to update everything across changes in texture pack format (where I have to go and redo the CTM set up, and boy isn't that fun O____o). And like I said, at the moment it's at a stand-still because the mapping bug has just ruined everything for that pack. But when that gets fixed....we'll see.

Hmm, well I'm currently working on another 16x something-or-other pack that you might like if I ever decided to put it up for download. It's brighter than this one, but you might like it. Hopefully.
Here's my first attempt at some of the new flowers and plants.
Not too happy with some of the flowers though...
Not bad. Not bad at all. However, some notes to keep any future textures in line with the style of this pack:
-Flower colors are a little too saturated
-Red flowers/tulips should have darker shadows on the flower part-- good contrast is your friend (but don't go overboard)
-The tulip bulbs are a bit strange. They look like they're upside down.
Other than that, good job with the yellow flowers and the double tall grasses.

The grasses and yellow flowers were my best work, I think I rushed the others a little too much!
Ill have another go at the rest with your tips in mind. Thanks.

Retired StaffI have your pack on my computer, and you're right-- it's both really good and similar in style to FeatherSong. So sure, go for it! Glad to have you.
The grasses and yellow flowers were my best work, I think I rushed the others a little too much!
Ill have another go at the rest with your tips in mind. Thanks.
Thanks!
