Yay, a 16x texture pack from Steel Feathers. I think it looks wonderful, as good as your 32x work. Heck, when quickly glancing at the screenies I even mistook it as a 32x pack.
Very lovely, will be downloading this for sure to have a look about.
The wood behind the stone could use a bit of shading to add some depth.
Maybe if there was a bit of shading in the corners that made the wood look a bit recessed. Ignore me if I make no sense, I'm a bit sleep deprived.
Side note: I just enchanted a diamond pick with a lv 30 enchant and got Unbreaking 3, Efficiency 3, and Fortune 2. SO HAPPY :biggrin.gif:
EDIT: I took a night time picture of my WIP water temple thing after I put in some newly acquired glowstone. It doesn't give off too much light, but I think it's a nice effect. (I also used MCPatcher so the water is proper now :tongue.gif:)

Spoiler once again because of size:
Ohh, very nice. I find that in building, (and almost everything else in life) subtlety is the key, so that little hint of light, makes it look really nice.
It doesn't have to look crappy, I just feel its weird that you would be more compelled to make a cobblestone house instead of a brick house now. Surely the stone bricks should look more like bricks and the cobble should look more like...cobble?
Yeah, using this texture pack to build a cobble house may look awesome for you, but for others in SMP it may just look like a poor persons house who can't be bothered making smooth-stone.

....to be quite frank, I really don't care what someone else sees while using a different texture pack.

Do a google image search for cobblestone and tell me what you see.
I see multiple images, one resembling stone turned into bricks, one resembling cobbled stone on flooring and correct me if I'm wrong but I think the whole concept of mining out stone and then suddenly placing it on the floor isn't too transform it into bricks but the concept of smelting that stone to become bricks makes more sense. So what do you see when you google image cobblestone? What do you see when you google image stone bricks?
Take a look at gerudoku's pack, I find that to be an easy example of what I see differently between cobblestones and bricks...or you could just google image it yourself.
Well maybe people do. What's the point in playing Multiplayer and designing nicely built houses to not show anyone? What if I was, or a friend was to design a castle and a house made out of stone and from my perspective his house would look like royalty and from his perspective my castle could look old and dodgy. I just think it's strange to have blocks so clearly different swapped around and many people are nitpicky about little things like that.
If no one cared what other people saw in video games we wouldn't have so many debates over what's fair or not, such as people replacing textures with see through ones. There are many many servers that have a listed requirement to download a specific texture pack otherwise things won't look as they appear, many adventure maps as well and to be honest when I host servers or play with specific friends we all tend to share the same texture packs, so really I think it's fair to say people care about what other people might see otherwise we wouldn't have such a strong skin section or texture pack section.
What you see is that the large majority of the images show cobble bricks. Which, by the way, were not smelted to achieve that form factor. Smelting stone, what a joke...
I don't know why you are so insistent on this pack looking like every other pack out there. It provides a distinct look between cobble and stone bricks, which serves the purpose well enough for multiplayer. If you're so upset about using a lovely cobblestone that other people won't be able to appreciate, because other packs decided that crap cobble was a good idea, why aren't you ragging on them? In fact, why don't you complain to notch for deciding cobblestone looks blobular instead of making something attractive.

I think that equating the usage of X-ray texture packs to cheat your way to ore to what is aesthetically pleasing is nonsensical because they're not the same thing. X-ray packs aren't about looks, they're about "how can I get materials faster?". I will agree with you that how things appear really does matter otherwise this forum wouldn't be thriving. I myself must have spent hours and hours tweaking my personal pack to just the way I like it.
However I believe it's the prerogative of the texture pack creator to dictate the direction of the art in their pack. I don't see why they would need to cater specifically to any one or even a group's desires. I don't think it would be a very good texture pack if everyone had their hand in it. I personally like the cobblestone the way it is and if I didn't then I'd open up paint.net or gimp to fix it myself because I am one of those nit picky people that likes things to look a certain way. And of course I suppose there are always customizers.
If I built a cobblestone castle in SMP and people thought it looked like crap, well they are welcome to download this texture pack to see it the way I view it. I don't build structures and play in SMP to show off to other people, I build them because I want to have a nice house to "live" in in Minecraft. And I play SMP to play with friends and other like-minded.
The only reason I started using a texture pack was I thought the default cobblestone looked ridiculously silly and ugly as sin; that was not how I envisioned cobblestone. I suppose it all boils down to opinion and opinion, no matter how deeply rooted, is not fact. Don't presume to speak for other people when you can only speak for yourself.
On the subject of the whole "good-looking cobble vs. realistic cobble" debate...
I personally have to side with Kabonos and Steel. If you like the way your creation looks with a texture pack, whether in SSP or SMP, then there is absolutely no reason to care what anyone else sees. If they want to make something because their pack makes it look good and yours doesn't, that's their problem (or lack thereof) and you should mind your own business. Besides, most people in SMP don't see a cobblestone house and think "house of a lazy person who doesn't want to smelt." They think, "house." The argument that people in SMP will criticize you for making something pretty with one pack that looks bad in another is ridiculous, as it underestimates the ignorance and apathy of of your average internet user.
Second, the point of texture packs is to serve a purpose, which can be one of two things:
A. Aesthetic
B. Functional
Aesthetic packs such as this one are intended for the sole purpose of making the game look good. No part of its existence is for anything else. No artist is going to make something intentionally look like crap because it "makes you less lazy" or "encourages progression." The only reason any texturer would intentionally make something look bad is if they were creating a functional pack, which is designed to do something other than beautify the world (e.g. show ore locations or make certain blocks invisible for an adventure map). Last I checked, this is not a functional pack.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My Website. I make mods for Minecraft and am also making my own game.
All I'll say about the cobblestone issue is that this is my pack and I'm making it first and foremost for myself-- just by the nature of things, there will likely be textures that I like that other people don't.
That said, I am working on an alternate cobblestone that will hopefully appeal to those of you who want something that looks more like stones than bricks, but it still won't be as 'rough' as default, because frankly the default cobble is butt ugly.

Retired StaffEDIT: yeah yeah yeah, kinda boring, I know. :\
Sometimes keeping it simple can be a good thing. I like it.
Side note: Is the stone hotbar at the bottom final? It looks good, but I'd like to have some sort of separation between the slots.
There's yet more to come!
