I put my .zip textures in the texture folder. i downloaded mcpatcher... but it's difficult to use. it wants me to open .jar files only. On the minecraft menu, under textures, my textures show up as black and white icons that i can't open.
You don't have to put MCPatcher to a specific folder, it should work fine even on your desktop. I have a special mod folder for all downloaded minecraft mods and that's where my MCPatcher is.
Your problem seems to be a different one. What exactly are you doing?
You want to install the HD patch for Minecraft in order to use texture packs with a solution of 32x32 or above. So you have to check the boxes that say "HD Textures" and "HD Fonts" and then click "Patch". You can select the texture pack ingame, as usually.
i got the HD stuff checked and patched. Still b&w icons :sad.gif: can it be that the textures are outdated?
